Best

Great local food, huge portions, service is good, taste is great.

Worst

Usually a good central place to meet with friends from around the city. Food is a 6-8/10; portions are generous; parking in Caste Village parking lot is free. Service is erratic...

Good Food, Terrible Wait Staff 2/24/2011

Food is decent but the management and the waitresses are garbage. The manager was throwing a little nerf football around the dining room at waitresses while they were trying to do their jobs (and flirt with him at the same time). Two patrons got hit with the ball and they discounted their dinners from what I overheard. The ball hit our table a few times and almost knocked my drink over. I know this isn't a 5 star place, but come on. At least attempt to be professional more

Lacks consistency!! 11/14/2009

Usually a good central place to meet with friends from around the city. Food is a 6-8/10; portions are generous; parking in Caste Village parking lot is free. Service is erratic & depends on the waitress you get. Some of the older ones are uncompromising & argumentative while many of the younger ones are very accommodating & pleasant. BE AWARE if you use a credit card or debit card though-I just discovered unauthorized charges added to my tab & will be pursuing the issue legally. Pros: Service varies CONSIDERABLY Cons: misuse of your debit/credit card more

Decent Take Out Food 10/7/2009

I eat Armstong's regularly as take-out. The Hickory BBQ Burger and Rueben are my faves. Good sized sandwiches. Also eat the Stuffed Banana Peppers which are always delicious. The stuffed mushrooms and crab balls tend to be greasy and you only get four of either for 8 dollars. Overall a good dinner if you forget to pack something for the night shift. Pros: Delicious Entrees, Stuffed Peppers Cons: A Little Pricy for the Servings more

Horrible waitress! 3/23/2009

The last time I ate at Armstrong my waitress was just aweful. She was so unattentive to us and took 15minutes to get us our drinks! That's just unacceptable especially since her section was NOT that busy. They definately don't have the best customer service as we have had this same experience multiple times! They need to spend more effort on hiring quality staff.we wanted to walk out. more

The best food in the area, great salads, wings, lunch. 3/11/2009

I eat there usually once a week for lunch, I have tried almost everything on the menu in the last 4 years. My co=workers are big fans too. Pros: great parking and good location off rt 51 Cons: sometimes a little slow service more

Disappointed, usually pretty good 1/26/2009

I have been disappointed the last 3 times I've been to Armstrong's and I have to say I think I'm going to just give up going there. The last time I went, the person who seated us told us we couldn't have a booth because we hadn't ""specialized one"". Whatever that means. So we sat at a table right outside the kitchen with waitresses brushing our hair and bumping us every time an order came out. Not fun. Pros: big portions Cons: disinigrating service and quality more

Not worth the hype 12/23/2008

I have been going to Armstrongs for about 10 years. I was am also pleased with the food. I never finished everything on the plate. The service is always very good. However over the years the price adjustments have led me to not frequent the restaurant. I have no problem paying for a good meal, but for the price they are at now you could spend the same for a better quality meal. The other problem I see everyone mentioning is the long wait. If you intend to go there, especially on a weekend don't go hungry. By the time you're seated you'll either be to drunk to enjoy the food or so hungry that your napkin will be you appetizer. Pros: Great Service, good food Cons: Long wait, price now outweights the quality of food more

Great food Great atmosphere 10/10/2008

As an ongoing patron of Armstrong's (all of them since Mt Washington) , I have to say that it is still one of my favorite restaurants!! Where can you go and get such fresh, consistently great, delicious, food. I have my favorites there, the salads are outstanding, the salmon is the best, and the APPS are a delicous meal. more

Big Portions - Average Fair - Long Lines 6/23/2008

What is all the fuss about. All I hear from everyone is how great this place is. Aside form the big portions, I don't get it. Especially considering the long wait if you go there during the dinner hour. You are better off going across the parking lot to Fritsch's. Just my opinion! Pros: You can wait in the bar when they are busy Cons: They are always busy - I don't know why??? more

Great food and exceptional quality 1/27/2008

This is a family favorite and for good reason. The food is always awesome and the portions are extremely large- never left without several doggie bags! The kids love it because there is so much to choose from. Me- I stick with the meatball calzone (MMMMMM!) or the salds (HUGE!) My husband loves the seafood! Have always had great service and everyone is friendly from the greeters to the wait staff to the busboys! Never rushed through our meal! Love to use Armstrong's to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Celebrated the adoption of my children at Armstrongs! It's become a favorite family tradition! more

Mashed Potato Soup 9/21/2007

All I heard was Armstrongs was so good blah blah blah. I wasn't too pleased. It was fine nothing to exciting except this excellent Mashed Potato Soup.Other than that I wouldn't go back. Maybe a take out Mashed Potato Soup day Pros: Mashed Potato Soup Cons: Didn't live up to expectation more

Best everything 2/12/2007

Arnstrongs is always a great place to eat. the waitresses are always fast and friendly.. most of the time the food is out with in minutes. it has the best cheese sticks with marinara sauce and sprinkle cheese on top. their fish is great even their fish parm is great. And their grilled cheeses are extremely big.. they are massive! if u like italian/american food u will love armstrongs more

Okay, But NOT Great - (baaaa......mooooo......oink oink) 10/11/2006

I am 64 years old, and I consider myself an expert at knowing just what makes a good restaurant ""good."" Armstrong's is like an Eat' N Park with larger portions....but no salad bar. I recall a LONG time ago (mid 1960s) when Armstrong's had initially opened for business on Mount Washington (Duquesne Heights) before they relocated to ""The Galleria"", followed by another move to the corner of Grove Rd at Library Rd. Prices were low, service was good, portions were large, and food quality was only average. At present, Armstrong's is largely unchanged.....except prices are less inexpensive now. This place is only slightly above average. I've learned that the most popular eateries are very often undeserving of their popularity and/or notariety. Just chalk it all up to the fact that human beings are just a species of animal, and feed the livestock. (""slop the hogs!"") Pros: Location, portion size, unpretentious/casual/family dress code. Cons: Prices, long wait to be seated. more

What is the big deal? 6/4/2006

Having seen that Armstrong's was so highly reviewed on Citysearch, I was anticipating a great meal. What we received can be described as average at best. The front desk staff was joking loudly about how slowly the customers responded when they were called because ""they wanted to go home"", the wait service was slow and inefficient and waitresses yelled to each other across the restaurant, and the food taste was average to below average, but was overpriced. The portion sizes are really way too big, wastefully so. It would be nice if they could knock a dollar off the price and give a reasonable portion (and my husband and I can really put food away). The atmosphere cannot remotely be called romantic. Did I mention the cold, grocery store baguettes they serve as italian bread? Overall, very disappointing. Pros: Good parking, probably ok for kids Cons: Overpriced, average flavor, poor service more

Go Hungry, Leave Happy 4/8/2004

This is probably the best restaurant in the Pittsburgh area. The attention to detail in everything they do is fantastic. It also reminds you of Sunday dinners with the family. I have never had a rude waitress and it is a great spot to go with friends and sit and talk. Pros: Delicious, Value, Clean more

Baked Ziti 2/23/2004

Ever since i can remember my family has followed Armstrongs to ever single new location. I am 20 now and everytime I visit Pitt, I will go to Armstrongs, and I recommend everyone i can. My brother and I are addicted to the baked ziti, its been our favorite since we were little kids. :-) It's wonderful. Pros: Inexpensive, Great food, Great service more

mmmmmmm goooood 1/19/2003

Largest freshest portions. Everytime I am in Pittsburgh area, make best stab at Armstrongs. My favorite Western Pennsylvania restaurant. I can afford to feed the teen age grandchildren here. Pros: Quality of food, Good Parking more

Best restaurant in the Burgh 11/27/2002

Armstrongs in both it's Moon Twp. and Castle Shannon locations are great restaurants. They have a large menu with great entrees, sandwiches and appetizers. They also have tremendous desserts, salads, and soups. The portions are large and the prices are inexpensive. Only downfall, which is because they are the best, long waiting for a table. The main menu is primarily Italian, but they have steaks, chops, and other dishes. They also have the best cheese sauce in the world. Pros: Outstanding food, Great value, Big portions Cons: Crowded more
