I went to see Dr. Pullen for a torn ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) repair. He explained, in great detail, the TTA procedure and answered all my questions. The initial consult lasted well over an hour! I had seen a few other veterinarians in the Valley and spoke to several out of state vets with regard to the ACL tear. Most of the veterinarians suggested the TPLO as it was one many have received the training for. I didn't feel that this would be the best option for my dog as it is a very invasive procedure. After a great amount of online research, telephone calls, and online discussions, the TTA was the latest and greatest surgery for torn ACLs. Dr. Pullen is one of the few veterinarians in Arizona who is trained in completing the TTA procedure and after consulting with him I knew he was the perfect vet to perform this procedure. The day of the surgery, the staff kept me up to date every step of the way. I believe I received a total of 3-4 calls (before, during, and after the surgery) to advise me of my dog's status. It was a very nice gesture and made me feel somewhat at ease (especially since I have never spent a great amount of time away from my dog, this was very much appreciated!). After the surgery she spent a few days in the hospital where she was under 24 hour care. I was allowed to call and visit her at any time. I think the time apart was harder on me than my dog! I was extremely impressed with how well she was cared for and equally impressed with how sterile and clean the front and back office was kept! Once back at home she was in a soft cast. Dr. Pullen explained, in great detail, the at-home care and recovery process. Everything went very, very smoothly. She has now made a complete recovery and is back to her old self! I haven't seen her this active and happy in quite a while and I couldn't be more pleased! I am beyond thrilled with Dr. Pullen!! He is now my official veterinarian for all of my animals. It is well worth the drive to see him. I live 45 minutes away and that is a small price to pay to receive the best care around! I can't say enough nice things about the Animal Medical and Surgical Center, he and the staff brought out a side of my dog that I only see --- she absolutely LOVES them! I STRONGLY recommend Dr. Pullen for the TTA procedure on any torn ACL. He is simply the best!! I wouldn't trust my dog to another vet. more

Animal medical and surgical is a great place to bring your animals. As far as medically, they are VERY VERY well taken care of. There is an overnight nurse monitoring all patients, and they really do care. All of the doctors are very nice and helpful, and really do care about the animals. Some people may say that they are pricey, but that is only because the animals get exquisite care. In the boarding department, the animals are also very well taken care of. They get walked 4 times per day, and they get to play in play group. They have an indoor play park that also gets cleaned 4 times per day. A different review says that it smelled like urine... Well honestly we (they) work very very hard to keep the INDOOR play park smelling good. more

My first impression when I see the Bronze statue in the lobby was....I'm going to get charged!!!! The service from the female doctor I saw was average. She seemed rushed and didn't really show interest in my dog or my questions. When I said I had to think about the bloodwork, she scoffed and was disdainful. The ASTRONOMICAL PRICES and average care won't get me back in their door. Pros: Nice Bronze Satue in the lobby Cons: More expensive than ANY other hospital, care is average more

I took my puppy there when she started coughing and became lethargic. She was adopted from a puppy store so I was concerned about kennel cough. I took her to see Drs. Mack and Ariano. They quoted me a price of $800 per day for treatment and told me to accept treatment as described or they couldn't do anything. I decided to leave and get a second opinion. I'M GLAD I DID. MY PUP IS DOING GREAT! I got a definite diagnosis for less, without any attitude and I will never go back there. Once you see the statues in the lobby you know why they only care about money. This facility is very impressive! I'm very particular about where I take my dog and I will only got o the best. I live in Surprise so the drive to Animal Medical and surgical center was quite a drive. It was worth it!!! The outside of the building is so beautiful and that's only the beginning. The inside was breath taking and the staff was the most wonderful I've ever experienced in an animal hospital. I took a tour with a boarding staff member who really took the time to answer all my questions. I didn't feel like a bother to her and she didn't feel like she was in a hurry to get rid of me. The treatment center was state of the art and the boarding condos were beautiful. There was a huge skylight and even webcams so I could see my dog playing if I boarded her there. They even do playgroups in their indoor playpark to ensure my dog gets plenty of excersise. I don't have a need for their services right now, but without doubt should I ever need medical care for my pets or boarding, I wouldn't even consider anwhere else! I don't typically board my dog when I travel, but last week I had to. At the last minute I had to drop hershey off. The place stank of urine in the kennels, and I overheard a doctor telling a woman that they had to pay $500 for a spay. The women almost fainted. With a big new facility this is how they'll pay for it by ripping off people. I'll never go back. Pros: ? Cons: the prices and smell! more

After a horrible experience at Applewood Pet Resort in Paradise Valley, we brought our pets to this center, which is now located in Scottsdale just off Hayden and Princess on N 82nd St., and we were completely impressed by the care our little friends received! The staff is very customer oriented to both their animal and human clients, and their brand new facilities are the nicest anywhere! Our cat, who probably would have died at Applewood, came back healthy, shiny, and happy from Animal Medical & Surgical Center after being treated to a double cat condo with outside windows; and our dog came home relaxed, as opposed to spastically running around, because they really did walk him outside three times per day (and spent time with him) like they said they would. All of the staff is very nice and friendly. They not only have treats for our pets in the waiting room, they have treats for us masters, too! This is by far the best, newest, and nicest facilities in all of the Phoenix area! And the vets are wonderful, too! (They even stayed 15-minutes late for us to pick up our animals after we got stuck in traffic!) Very, very friendly and helpful staff. Pros: Brand new, state of the art facilities; best caring group of people anywhere; it's obvious pets were loved when you were away! more
