i've been going to animal kind for a little over a year now, ever since i moved to park slope. i have a 3 year old dog, 130lbs, relatively rare breed. prior to animal kind i went to very highly regarded (and very expensive) vets in both san francisco and los angeles. i'm one of those pet owners who doesn't let anything go to ""see if it gets better."" when we have a problem, we come to the doctor. as a result, my puppy has spent most of his life in excellent health. however he had skin problems starting at about six months that we were never able to completely eradicate.\r

when i got to animal kind, dr. murphy was convinced it was a food allergy. i had done a food trial before (or so i thought) and every vet we'd seen since had eliminated that as a potential source. but after discussing options, we decided to give it another try. please note, she did NOT recommend the very expensive dermatologist workup instead -- she wanted to start with the trial.\r

within three months my dog's skin was perfect. no rashes, no sores, no recurring infections. we've gradually switched him from the totally allergen-free food to a limited ingredient diet and he's never been better. after two years of trial and error, dr. murphy fixed my pup on the first attempt. \r

do i have complaints? sure, minor ones. i often wait a long time for my appointments, especially on weekends. the cost of basic care is higher than i've encountered anywhere else. his prescription food isn't available for delivery (we go through big bags FAST) and occasionally takes a long time to come in stock. on the other hand, appointments are easy to get, they are open evenings and weekends and i've never seen a doctor i didn't like. best of all, i have confidence that my pet is getting the best possible care. for me, the trade off is MORE than fair. \r

if you're on a tight budget or have a more low key approach to pet care, you may be better off somewhere else. but for us, animal kind is exactly right.
