Employee Payday 7/17/2010

This is a nice place to work and the owners are great, but when it comes to paying the employees for their hours worked, these people need to stop bouncing checks! Also they need to learn that when you hire someone and you are told payday is Friday then you should be PAID ON FRIDAY, NOT WHENEVER YOU FEEL LIKE PAYING FOR WORK PERFORMED!!!!! Pros: nice place to work, job opportunity, volunteers helpful Cons: do not pay employees more

Rescue is tough 5/15/2010

Animal House is a retail establishment that provides space to Ohio Pet Placement to adopt cats and dogs. This is no different than a PetSmart adoption partner, which Ohio Pet Placement happens to be. When you adopt a pet from Ohio Pet Placement at the Animal House or anywhere for that matter, policies are in black and white and thoroughly explained. Pets available for adoption are strays, owner surrenders, abused or neglected, or pulled from pounds to avoid euthenasia. Because of this, there is little to no history on any of the pets, and if there is it is usually false. When you adopt there is an application/ agreement clearly stating that there is no health or temperament guarantee and that there is no refund of the adoption donation. The second page of the application/agreement is an adoption release indicating that there may be undiagnosed illnesses or parasites and that you agree to be responsbile for the pet from that point forward. There is also a new pet health information sheet provided and explained to you that discusses those very things that shelter pets can be exposed to. Further, Petfinder partnered with a pet health insurance company designed specifically for shelter pets when adopted. The first month is only $5 and Ohio Pet Placement is even willing to pay for that first month if you sign up at the shelter, making it free to adoptors. This insurance covers ANY illness or accident up to $500 at the vet of your choice and it is effective at midnight the day of adoption. Yes, this even covers things like kennel cough, pnemonia and even parvo. As for a rediculous adoption fee, do you really think that it is free to have an adoption center? And that it?s cheap to provided food, care and medical care? The high fees also deter the impulse adoptions into homes that don?t truly want to make a lifelong commitment to a pet. No matter where you adopt or purchase a pet there is NEVER a 100% guarantee of perfect health. If you decide to adopt, knowing there are no health/temperament guarantees, knowing there is no refund or vet bill assistance AND you refuse to sign up for one month?s free insurance knowing they may have undiagnosed issues that you will be responsible for, it is unfair for you to harm the reputation of an organization that is simply out to save lives and complete families. As always, we invite anyone that has concerns or just wants to see for themselves, come in, volunteer for the day, share your time with a pet that needs it. Pros: Adoption center, rescue pets Cons: Confusion with Animal Zone more

Another ill puppy..... 3/9/2010

We adopted a puppy and within 3 days we spent an additional $300 on vet bills! Of course that was after their ridiculously expensive adoption fee of $400. We love our dog now and she is healthy and happy, but had she stayed there another couple of days, who knows if she would have survived- she really was that sick and incredibly under-weight! We also experienced the no call back, the avoidance, etc. The place should be closed down and the dogs should be put into places where the dogs are the priority. Pros: I saved a dog from them Cons: Hugely Expensive! more

Dogs are Ill 10/11/2009

Bought an 8 week old puppy from this store. Took him to the vet - he was anemic. After just purchasing the puppy, spent over $100 the next day at the vets. Called the store and requested to speak to the manager. Was always told she was not in, but would return my call. She never did. Went to the store to get the puppy his shots and voiced my complaint about the manager not returning my calls. Was told she would return my calls - again, never did. Clearly, this store is not customer friendly. Pros: You're saving a sick dog Cons: Dogs are ill, managers don't return calls more

The worst pet store ever and manager 11/25/2008

This store has some of the worst looking animals I have ever seen. Upon visiting the store one day I over heard a worker mention how she had given three different dogs shots using the same needle. This is unsafe and unsanitary. The dogs are only fed twice a day which is a lot less than what they should be. The manager has no respect for his animals, customers, or his employees. He needs to be shut down before its to late. I know for a fact that within the last month he has had at least 5 dogs die in his store from an unknown illness. Pros: There is no pro when shopping at this store except if your not buying an animal Cons: Everything in this store is a con including the manager more

Parvo dogs- this is why the animals look sick. they are dying of parvo 5/23/2008

My sister bought a Black Labrador there yesterday and spent the night watching her puppy die of a virus called Parvo. The only thing that eliminates the virus is Bleach. She did get her money back, but the store people were cleaning the store with disinfectant which does not eliminate parvo. this is highly contagious, and any puppy there will be infected. This store is completely blind and ignoring the fact that their animals are dying and not telling their customers of this problem. My sister also had to warn her neighbors dogs that had come over last to see the puppy, that their dogs came into contact with Parvo, and they need to be tested or treated. She bought this dog for her children who are 5 and dont understand what happened and why they cant get another one. this store should be shut down for atleast 6 months to make sure that they are not spreading Parvo. Cons: the store is contaminated more

this business needs to close 5/8/2008

Someone needs to get those poor animals out of these stores. The owner openly admits he ""hates people"" and his bitterness and hatred are obvious. There is nothing stopping him from taking his anger out on the animals that are dying there. They need to be removed and put in good homes before it is too late. more

NO SICK ANIMALS 3/23/2008

I think that that is not true. My boyfriend and I just went there yesterday and before we knew that we were going to buy a dog got to play with it outside its cage. None of them looked sick or weak. All of them were jumping around wanting to play. They would not sell any animal if it were like that. It would be completely stupid on there part. Also if they supposedly look sick to you, then dont buy them, then you can't complain. more

Do not support this place 1/25/2007

They sell sick animals. A week or so ago we went and the majority of the animals were very lethargic and one had very smelly, mucousy diarreah, and runny eyes. He was also labeled wrong as a cairn terrier when in fact he looked nothing like one. The dog was so weak it didnt even respond to human touch. They also will not let you interact with the dogs unless you are buying them for sure and that right there is a red flag. Pros: nothing. it's a live animal petstore and there's never anything good about those Cons: They sell SICK animals more
