It is all about the money and not the pet 11/7/2014

This clinic used to be very good. Care of your pet was number 1. Unfortunately, thing have changed...Now it is all about the money. We have been faithful customers for 19 years. Started noticing a change about two years ago. Noticed increased cost and need for some of the procedures were necessary. Every visit started to require blood work and x-rays. The last visit involving our cat went from $600 - $700 to over $1700... Understand that initial care is just an estimate and can escalate based on how the pet responds to treatment. Questioned Dr. Olsen about the charges. Trying to obtain an understanding for such a dramatic increase in charges. Dr. Olen became very annoyed that I was even asking and questioned whether I really cared about my cat. I told her I was not questioning care just wanted to understand the increased expenses. Her response was maybe I cared more about money and not my cat.....She continued the attack and I told her I was going to end the call and not take any further of her abuse. I would recommend staying away from Animal Hospital Newport hills. Care of your pet is no longer the primary goal. Now it is all about the money.... more

Please do not use this vet if you care about your animals! They are very unprofessional and do as little as possible for your animals while charging you extremely high prices. After talking to several pet stores and other vets in the area this place has a bad reputation more

The Best I've even been to 9/6/2010

I've taken my animals here for years and have always been pleased with the care, service and the staff. I feel they know my animals and care what happens to them. Dr. Thomazin is great and I wouldn't take them any place else. more

Extremely satisfied 8/10/2009

Because of a very positive recommendation from a friend who is an experienced dog owner and breeder,I have been using Dr. Thomazin for Brady, my cocker spaniel. Brady, who is a rescue, has come with a myriad of health problems. Dr. Thomazin's skill, empathy and follow up has been exceptional. I never feel rushed and know all of my questions will be answered more

Animal Hospital of Newport Hills is HORRIBLE. 5/17/2008

When I first adopted my two kitties, I brought them over to Animal Hospital of Newport Hills. At first I thought everyone there was nice.. My two kitties had their first set of shots. One of them was extremely allergic to the shots. They told me that they would put in their notes that she was allergic to one of the shots, so next time around the shots would be split up. I asked if it was necessary to give her the shots since both of my cats are indoor and BLIND. They insisted saying they need shots, even though I told them one was allergic, along with being INDOOR ONLY. After that incident, I stopped going to Animal Hospital of Newport Hills. Their customer service is horrible. I came in one day, and then made a follow up appointment the next day with the same vet, receptionist, etc. None of them remembered me or my cat. At that time they told me that I did not need to get vaccinations for my cat since she was indoor, why did they insist the day before she get them then? In their notes they had what I received from the Humane Society about the history of the cats. Since both are blind, there were details as to their underdeveloped eyes. The vet was very rude and was telling me my cat has some eye problems. She did not even look at the chart and wanted to run tests, give medication for my cat's eyes. I told her that my cat is blind and that her eyes were never fully developed and if she had looked through the chart, she would have known that. Plus she did not remember why I came back the following day for a check up due to my cat's allergic reaction to the vaccinations. I DO NOT recommend this place to anyone. All my friends and family who have taken their pets to Animal Hospital of Newport Hills have stopped once they saw how they treated my cats and when my cat who had allergic reactions to the medication had to be put to sleep because she had uncontrollable seizures. more

Great Facility and Staff 12/19/2007

Both of my Bengal cats receive all their care from the Vets at this facility. I have always found the staff to be considerate and caring and willing to take the extra time to answer my questions completely. I have referred a number of other pet owners and have not heard any negative comments from any of them. I don't know of another facility in the Mercer Island area that offers the quality care at the reasonable prices charged here. more

Good Quality Care 7/31/2007

I have been bringing my 4.5 year-old yellow lab in since I brought home just over 4 years ago. I love the convienence of being able to drop in without an appointment. The vets have always been friendly and take time to explain any concerns. Fees are very reasonable too. more

Animal Hospital of Newport Hills is ROTTEN 7/4/2007

Newport Hill Animal Hospital is a privately owned veterinary clinic. It is NOT a teaching hospital as clients are led to believe. The owner and operator is a vet named Kent Thomazin. If Kent Thomazin is a teacher then he is self ordained by hiring vets who have lost jobs elsewhere. The price quoted over the phone is always higher when you arrive. The lesson taught is that you need a trust fund to care for your pet ...if you believe Thomazin and his employees. regarding the needs of pets. Watch out for the chemotherapy, I-V feedings your pet will need forever, the anal gland removal surgeries, the patchwork removal of benign tumors, the unnecessary hip replacements, etcetera. Contrary to a statement made within the clinic's website, our pets are NOT our children. Pets deserve the dignity not to be mutilated and tortured through useless procedures that are done only to keep Thomazin rich. more

Animal Hospital of Newport Hills has low cost spay and neuter services with tender professional care 3/23/2006

I've been using the Animal Hospital of Newport Hills for ten years or more and have always been happy with the results. They've neutered 4 male cats for me, and spayed one female, given shots, diagnosed ailments -- a bad cough etc. They take walk in clients that show up at their door. The wait is usual under 1/2 hour every time I've been there. They take your pet to a private room while they examine them, and you can go along. They provide medicine, sell food, collars and the like also. The doctors are always helpful abd explain thoroughly. more
