Dr. Morris is an excellent vet. She took care of my parent's Laborador for years, seeing her through recovery from numerous cancer surgeries and other health issues. She thinks outside the box, and equipped my parents with knowledge and techniques which enabled our dog to live for fourteen years. When it was finally time to let her go, I was glad that it was Dr. Morris who saw her through her final moments. There's very little comfort to be had on such a day, but Animal Healing Arts is a wonderful environment, and that in itself made the experience a little easier.\r \r In addition, Dr. Morris has taken care of my own two cats since they were kittens, neutering them, seeing them for regular checkups, and seeing them through assorted cuts and scrapes. I will state categorically that in three years, Dr. Morris has never attempted to sell me anything, and never took issue when I declined extemporaneous procedures or tests (which she always made sure I understood were not necessary, but were merely options which were available). I'm not sure of the going rates, but I find the cost of a visit and checkup to be quite reasonable.\r \r Finally, I should reiterate that visiting Animal Healing Arts is an exceedingly pleasant experience. Dr. Morris and her staff are always cordial, and express genuine warmth to my cats, especially when doing something unpleasant like taking their temperature or giving them a shot. I'm fortunate that my little guys haven't had any serious health challenges, and that they have a doctor whom I trust to give competent, caring advice. \r \r I can't speak for the purported bad experiences detailed in other reviews, but from my own experience I highly recommend Dr. Morris.\r \r more

After reading some of the other hard nosed reviews, I just had to write one. I have been going to Dr. Morris for over six years and would never trust my animals to anyone else. I have 2 big dogs and a cat and she gives them equally the best care. I have never had any issues with her or anyone from her staff and have always found our visits extremely positive. I spent a long time trying out bad vets throughout the city and various boroughs (all recommended of course) and was relieved when I finally found the animal healing arts. She has an open dialogue with me about my pets and gives me not only knowledge but options and has never once even tried to push me into anything-ever. She has always returned my calls during off hours whenever I have had emergencies, has ALWAYS squeezed me in for same day appointments when necessary and has been a the only vet I have been ever able to trust. In terms of cost, I am not someone who makes a ton of money, nor is impractical when it comes to my animals. I find her billing to be the same as everywhere else but I walk out of her office with a piece of mind that my animal are well looked after- and I am worry free. Other vets I have walked out trying to gulp down the feeling I just spent half my rent on nothing, been totally dupped and still nervous that the choices I made for their care were wrong. That is a horrible feeling. I also want to address the ""anger management"" problems other seem to refer to in their review. A friend recommended me to her, but prior to going there had warned me about a scene they had witnessed, Dr, Moriss yelling at patient in the waiting room about how they were mis treating their animal. Ok, so yeah, it made me think twice about going there- I certainly don't want to be yelled at- but I also am my own person, and therefore need to decided things for myself- not just based on what others say. In the six years I have been going there I have never NEVER witnessed anything but the most jovial, caring and personable Vet. Some people I know go to vets that I tried and determined horrible- why? because they are idiots? No, because for whatever reasons those vets are right for them. ( I do want to mention though that those friends do call me for my opinion when they are second guessing their vets- and always appreciate the advice I give based on my experiences with Dr, Morris) Not every person will be the right fit for the same vet, try out Dr, Morris, I don't think you will regret it, you may not pick her in the end but she's definitely worth your consideration. Also, keep in mind, she is a solo practice and the only Vet on staff, so appointments sometimes don't have much flexibility and can be hard to reschedule, they are closed on Sundays + Mondays (she needs time off too) and sometime you do have to wait a bit in the waiting room- but I don't want her rushing through my appointment, so I'm ok with her taking the time she needs with every patient. First off I can't imagine that any of these 5 stars reviews are real. Judging by the overall demeanor of Julie Morris ... nobody would go out of their way to say ""the best vet"" or ""wonderful vet and staff"". If by ""best vet"" they mean doesn't actually care about your animal then yeah 5 stars. So I can only assume that when they aren't busy they are giving themselves pats on the back on citysearch. I had not spoken to anyone in the neighborhood about her before scheduling my first appointment. However if I had I may have never given her a chance, You might think that by the name ""Animal Healing Arts"" you would get an alternative view of veterinary medicine. In my experience you will not only NOT get ideas for alternative medicine. You will be belittled, berated, and get a back turned on you when you need help. Seriously didn't want to go back after the first visit, but after investing 350 dollars to get a diagnosis didn't have much choice. Then when I needed the prescription filled again was REQUIRED to come back in for a check up which consisted of checking the color of the animals tongue. Not only is Julie Morris unprofessional rude and mean, she seems to not care for humans, or animals. Seriously book a round-trip plane ticket to mexico, because it will do your pet the same amount of good. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. It has been a few years since my last visit but I remember her verbal abuse so vividly all these years that I must write a review so that other people can make their decisions better.\r \r I chose her because she was a holistic vet. She was super kind on my first visit and she was nice for the first 8 months. \r \r Then one day of the visit, as I was waiting in her reception area, I saw that she seems to be in a bad mood over some client and was having a heated conversation with her receptionist. Then she saw me in the lobby. I was in for x-ray. I was told that they have no idea when the x-ray 'van' will be coming in- that it can be any time between 9 to 5, and that I should drop my dog for the day. I didn't feel comfortable dropping my dog there and have her stay in a metal cage all day. I told her that I will be right around the corner and that when the x-ray van arrives just call me and I will be here in a minute. \r \r At this request, she went BERSERK. \r In front of people in the lobby, she went absolutely crazy and started to SCREAM telling me what a pathetic caregiver I am to my dog and that I am way too attached! She said ""LOOK AT YOU! hugging that dog! JUST TAKE A LOOK AT YOU!"" She ranted for about good 5 minutes. I was in total shock at this outburst so I didn't say one word.\r \r When she was done screaming she turned away and went inside. I came out and never went there again. \r \r She called me that night around 10pm about 10 times but I never answer the phone nor did she leave a message. I assume she wanted to apology..? However it was too late. I would never trust my dogs to someone who would lose her temper like that- it was scary. I trust Dr. Morris 100%. She is not only caring but also extremely knowledgeable. She does not push any treatments that she truely doesn't think your pet needs. Her office staff is very pleasent and always greet your pet with a smile. It is true you may have to wait to get into see her but doesn't that shows signs of a GOOD vet....if her office was empty I would be concerned but it is not. Plus, know once you get in to see her she takes her time and does a complete evaluation. One of the best things about Dr. Morris is that she has no problems about referring you out to other vets if she feels it is necessary. To me that is a sign of a wonderful Doctor, human or animal. She has a nice heart and her staff is nice. but I personally find her more of a hippie animal freedom fighter than a veterinarian. Her diagnosis for our howling cat is that she ""needs mommy"" to comfort her and was adamant about selling us a Feliway device. If you want a checkup and see if your pet is sick, shes fine. Animal Healing Arts is a small clinic that often cannot schedule same-day appointments, so you may need to have a backup veterinarian for emergencies. However, for routine and non-emergency visits, I cannot recommend Dr. Morris highly enough. She is obviously an animal lover, and she treats your pets with extreme gentleness and kindness. She is also very good with people; she has a good sense of humor, likes to share interesting stories and facts with you during your visit, and asks a lot of questions about your pet. She is also one of the most knowledgeable vets around, in my opinion. She cites studies when she answers your questions, and she never replies with an ""I don't know,"" unlike many vets that I have visited.\r \r Dr. Morris has always given me choices when it comes to treatment, and I have never found her to be pushy or stubborn. My older dog had pretty serious tartar on his teeth, and another vet had suggested that I get his teeth cleaned. Since he is a very large dog, this would have cost hundreds of dollars, and would have put him at risk since he is older. Dr. Morris suggested that I start brushing his teeth on my own rather than going through the expensive and risky procedure. Since then, his teeth have improved dramatically!\r \r The receptionists and techs at Animal Healing Arts are very friendly and helpful. Recently my cat was scheduled for surgery, and I simply could not get her into her carrier to get to the clinic. I frantically called the receptionist, who gave me some suggestions for calming the cat, and then very kindly rescheduled the surgery when I finally failed to lure my cat out of her hiding place. She was very understanding about my predicament.\r \r I recommend Animal Healing Arts without reservation. I don't usually comment online, but I need to give a heads up to all that love your pets. I do believe that Dr. Morris loves animals (definitely not people), but only when they fit her schedule and when the owners can shell out a lot of money. She tries to sell acupuncture, teeth cleaning, prescription pet food, etc. every time. And if your pet is really ill or in crisis, she'll bad-mouth the emergency clinic on Warren, pushing you to take your pet all the way to Midtown, even in extreme crisis. It's traumatic, risky, and triple the cost. I've since heard the clinic on Warren is very good. Hmm. $6,000 later. A previous review said that she's fine with check-ups, but not for serious illnesses or injury. I agree completely. more

Horrible and uncompassionate. Twice has refused to see my dog when sick during normal business hours. Would not even schedule an appointment the next morning. Glad to see your pet and bill when it is convenient and 1 week away. Office staff rude and reflect indiference and lack of compassion. Who needs a fair weather veterinarian? Wish I had found Dr. Julie sooner. I had a very bad experience with vets in my neighborhood (Bay Ridge) 7 yrs ago. They misdiagnosed my very sick cat. Within weeks I was out a ton of money and my 2 year old cat was dead. \r Now I would rather take my 3 cats to Carroll Gardens to see Dr. Julie. She is compassionate and knows her stuff. I find she doesn't push tests, procedures or products. I find her to be very reasonable about all of that. The staff is great too. Such nice people. Yes, you have to wait a while for a routine appt but isn't that the case with any good doctor? Pros: very knowledgeable, compassionate, reasonable Cons: very few more

Although Dr. Julie is a very caring vet and knowledgable vet, she goes overboard with her treatments and is very good at laying on a guilt trip if you ever question her about whether something is really necessary. To put my dog on a medicine, she requires bloodwork every 3 months (or she will not approve the refills) whereas other vets will require only repeat bloodwork every 6 months. I constantly find myself going in for a routine appt. and coming out having spent over $200 on various tests she pushed onto me unexpectedly. She doesn't know how to work with people who don't believe in spending every last dollar for the care of their pets (my dog gets better healthcare than I do) for things that are not medically necessary, even if they are ""advisable."" I have another friend who also goes to Dr. Julie and has the same problem. We are both switching to another vet who can be more accomodating and reasonable in helping patients keep vet costs in line. My experience with Dr. Morris was better than I could ever have expected. She is very gentle and caring with your pets. Don't listen to the bad reviews on this site... yes, you may not get an immediate appt, i waited approx 2 1/2 weeks for a weekend apt.. but what does that tell you? If she's booked so far in advance she is definitely good! And of course they will reschedule you if you are late, that is just the nature of doctor's appointments. \r \r While I was there during my appt. I asked her about my boyfriend's sick cat, she told me if I could get her copies of what the cat's current chart then she could help give a better answer to the cat's respiratory problems, as after HIS vet in queens charged him $1000 in tests they just told him his cat had 'inflammed lungs'. So I faxed Dr. Morris his chart and she called me at the end of the day said that the cat's case is so severe she recommended him to a specific respiratory doctor at AMC. That was one of the nicest things that has ever happened to me, b/c she just did that out of the generosity and care in her heart. A very nice vet, and good for scheduled checkups. However, the office management is horrible and it is almost impossible to see the vet when you really need her. Closed Sundays and Mondays, only open for 4 hours on Saturdays, and booked way in advance. When you do have an appointment, you still wait for 30 minutes past your appointment time on average. Animals that are actually SICK and need to see a vet are referred to expensive emergency vet hospitals in Manhattan.\r \r I don't really see the point in going to a vet that only can see you when your pet is healthy, no matter how nice she is. Great vet, everyone is friendly, I took Lola the Dog in for what turned out to be allergies to pollen, and the vet was kind and did not try to sell me expensive meds for her allergies, instead suggested over the counter medsand told me the dosage, etc. I decided she was the vet for me, and have been going to her ever since. And very time I go, it has been a pleasant experience. more

I've taken both of my cats here and the receptionists and doctors have been nothing but friendly and hospitable. They go out of their way to tell you how beautiful your pet is (isn't that what we all want to hear?) and their treatment is caring. Highly recommended. more

I have been taking my cats to this vet for at least 5 years, and I LOVE them. Being near them was part of my decision about where to buy a house, it upset me so much to think of finding a new vet. I have never had a hard sell or anything close - in fact, Dr Morris recommended buying medicines online, and once actually referred me to a different vet for a procedure when she could have just kept my cat on medication indefinitely. But what matters most is that I truly feel she and all her techs really care about animals and make a huge effort to be engaged, kind, and responsive. One of our cats was very ill after a stroke and it was a huge comfort to know that Dr Morris and all her staff CARED about her, that she was being looked after in a loving and sensitive way. When she died, I got an incredibly sweet (long, and handwritten) card. I really cannot stress how wonderful this vet is, and it upsets me to see the negative review on this site. If you want caring, reasonably priced, non-judgemental, intelligent, care for your pet, this is the place. Pros: Kind, loving, thoughtful care for your pet. We were in need of a local vet to clip our dog's nails and express her tushie glands (the ""a"" word is apparently not allowed on this site). Last week, we made an appointment for 6pm this Tuesday night (which I believe is the only night of the week that they have evening hours). My wife rushed home from her job in Manhattan, picked up our dog, and hurried over to this vet in the freezing cold. When she walked in shivering at 6:15 pm, the receptionist declared that she was late and refused to admit her for her appointment!!! My wife apologized, explained that she got there as fast as she could from her job in Manhattan, and assured the woman that the nail-clipping and expression would be fast and would not affect the rest of their appointments (both services take little time). Still, the receptionist refused to begin the paperwork or summon the vet and essentially threw my wife and dog back out into the freezing cold!!! In what world does ANY service person refuse a customer for being 15 minutes late??? I am absolutely OUTRAGED. It is the rudest and craziest thing I have ever heard. My only solace is that the thousands of dollars that I will undoubtedly spend caring for my beloved pet over the years will be going elsewhere. If I were you, I would stay away! The only thing I can say is that my dog (who is 5) LOVES to go visit Dr. Julie and he is a big wimp! The costs do not seem to be high and I have never felt pushed to purchase anything there. She is kind and she really loves animals. more

Ihave been taking my now-18-year-old cat Ed to Dr. Julie Morris for the last five years, and I'm convinced that's WHY he's 18. The staff is charming and friendly, the doctor is attentive and really cares about your pet, and I STILL go to this vet, even though I've moved out of the neighborhood and have to splurge on a cab for me and Ed.
