Americar Auto Rental

If it were possible I would give it 0 stars - I signed up in order to write this review. We got a car for the weekend to run some errands with, and when my fiance picked up the car (it took over an hour to get the paperwork done, and the guy seemed to be paying almost no attention to us, answering the phone, chatting to friends) it had the check engine light on. My fiance tried to refuse the car, but the manager assured us there was nothing actually wrong with it, it just needed to be reset, and there weren't any other cars available from them. So we took it. Huge mistake. Driving it on the highway I thought we were going to die - it wouldn't get above 40 mph, the RMP gague was all over the place, the engine was lurching and jerking at a standstill, the brakes squealed (I wasn't sure they were going to work) and then the MPH gague started going wild, from 0 - 70, when as I said we were only able to go 40. It's a deathtrap, we weren't able to use it for our intended purposes, and this should absolutely not have been rented out. Avoid this place if you value your life. After renting from the manager at Americar, I couldn't believe the things that Babe wrote in her review ! I was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes, with a great car and no hassles. My buddies and I were on our way to atlantic city for the weekend and Americar made sure that we were happy with car, we got the CD player like they promised too. Price was right, the service was great ! I can not imagine what went wrong back in 02, but it propmts me to think it may have been the renter in that case. When I returned my rental car on Monday, there were several customers waiting for the free shuttle to the T, and we all shared a ride. They ALL seemed to have the same great service that I recieved. I would highly reccomend Americar to my friends. Pros: friendly service, great prices Cons: ??????, none really more
