Fantastic service BUT food doesn't cut it 6/16/2010

We've been going to The Resort for several years and were excited when new owners took it over. The remodel is beautiful, the rooms are very comfortable and pretty. The people working at The Resort are top notch & will do anything they can to make your stay exceptional. THE FOOD IS unremarkable and disappointing. We've tried Altitude several times hoping each time it would be different but it was the same experience. The deep fried foods were over fried and burnt tasting, the meats were tough/chewy and tasteless. The salads are equally disappointing, lacking in flavor and overdressed and watery. Soup is the same way-bland. Oddly enough, brunch at The Resort is fantastic but is only offered on occasion--worth the drive when they do offer brunch, check their website. On the bright side, The Resort has a wonderful wine list and great desserts. If you're staying at The Resort, there are other restaurants nearby that are quite good The Rendezvous and The Skyway Bar & Grill. Good luck to The Resort, we hope they will work to improve the food at Altitude. It's one of the most beautiful and serene properties we've ever seen and enviably close to skiing and offers a 27-hole golf course. Pros: Gorgeous Property Cons: Unremarkable Food more

Best thing to come to the Mountain - EVER!! 11/7/2008

Very creative use of local products. Very balanced menu. The fish and chips and burger seem out of place on this menu, but don't take anything away from everything else that is available. Well worth the easy drive to Welches to try something new and very intriguing. Can't wait to see what the future holds. Pros: The food, the absinthe Cons: No signage more

Excellent Food, Just outside Portland 11/6/2008

The Altitude is in my opinion the perfect balance of entertainment and ambiance. From my experience, I would highly recommend it as one of the classiest restaraunts in the NW. If your looking for a quiet relaxed time outside of Portland up on the mountain this is it. Their dessert is some of the tastiest and well thought out i've ever had. A great place to stop for practically any occasion. Affordable fine dining is hard to come by and they have nailed it. I enjoyed the pianist Jeanne Pierre, he was entertaining without being distracting. For a newly remodeled and up and coming restaraunt they are in my opinion succeeding. Basically if you want to get high....increase your altitude. Pros: Ambience, Service, Great Food Cons: Needs a sign on the road for the restaraunt more

Fantastic, Flavorful, Decadent! 11/3/2008

I have dined at the Altitude at the Resort at the Mountain twice now. Both times were absolutely fantastic. My fiance and I even stayed the night on our last visit in a lovely room with a fireplace. I would highly recommend the easy drive out to Welches, OR. to savor the incredible flavors and very nice ambience. I'm sure we will be back very soon. Pros: locally raised and produced products, unique entrees, service, wine list, ambience Cons: no signs telling you where the restaurant is more

mediocre 10/29/2008

I heard a lot of hype about this restaraunt from the front desk, I expected better food, better service, and frankly a better atmosphere. The food was okay, nothing to write home about, however reasonably priced. I did enjoy the seafood chowder, if your going to go there that is an excellent choice. The restaraunt being recently remolded, could have had better lighting and some entertainment, with no view or ambience and a glare right in my eye on a romantic evening with my husband left me feeling like I paid 4 star prices for a room that was the same a couple of years ago and for food that was just mediocre. We did however, go for a stroll around the golf course and stumbled upon the most amazing view and had a wonderful breakfast at the cafe also located there and ran by the resort and it made up for the dinner the night before. Bottom line, mediocre. Needs to up the anti Pros: didn't have to pay for parking, two restaraunts on property Cons: food was mediocre, rooms felt cheap, no ambience or entertainment more

They want to be a 4 star restaurant. They're using the right formula. 10/20/2008

Good food is what a restaurant should be about, and Altitude nails it. Every single course we had (chilled beef tartar, beef tenderloin, venison steak) was extremely well thought out and expertly prepared. The food is the best I've had in years. Pros: The food!!! Waitstaff, place settings, overall ambience Cons: Bright outdoor light shining into the restaurant cheapened the ambience. No restaurant sign visible from road at night. more
