Alterations By Melonie

Melonie altered my gown for my wedding this July, and the results were fantastic. It was not an easy gown to alter, as it had 3 layers including lace and lace appliques that were machine sewn & beaded as they were sewn on (as opposed to having the beads sewn on to the appliques before sewing the appliques to the dress, which would not require re-beading when the appliques were removed to alter the dress). She did an amazing job taking in the hips and entire bottom half of the dress, had a good eye for what would work best for the shape around my rear (it looked like I had a butt! And I don't, really...), and came up with a very good way of avoiding having to hem the whole thing by adding a few skillfully-placed layers of crinoline. She also did a great job of taking in the straps as well as designing a french bustle that looked great AND stayed put the whole night, through hours of dancing. more

This review is hysterical. lol. Reading it only made me laugh because it is so obvious that the owner (or a family member of the owner like all the other positive reviews )of this establishment wrote it. To all that may think about going to this horrible place (as stated horrible people = horrible reviews) just look at how this person acts via the internet and I think you will get a good grasp on how they are in public. Now, do you want to pay an obscene amount of money for poor quality of work as well as be treated so distastefully? I would go somewhere else no need to stress over something like that. Honestly, I think that Melonie owes HER CUSTOMER an apology. more

Melonie is the greatest tailor that you could ever possibly have alter you gown, pants, shirt, jacket, etc. She makes sure that the piece of clothing fits your body perfectly and she makes sure that the alterations she has made is exactly what you wanted. If it wasn't what you wanted she re-does it and makes sure it is what you wanted. She spends a lot of time and concentration on altering your clothing. She makes sure that everything is perfect. more

This review is in response to the above review by LeAnne R. I happened to have been at Melonie's shop with my dauighter and her bridal gown on a Saturday when LeAnne was there. . We were done with our fitting, and LeAnne was next. We saw her in her gown . At that time the dress was so tight if she sneezed she would have split the seams. At no time did Melonie yell at her, and her husband sits on the far side of the room, obscured by a wall, and unless he has X-ray vision, there is no way he can see any girls near the dressing rooms, nor would he be interested. I have known Melonie and her husband for years, both as a customer, and I had the good fortune to work with her where she was employed as a professional tailor. Her professionalism and expert sewing talent should not, and cannot be smeared by a bold-faced liar. After reading LeAnne's review I will be sure to recommend some fine attorneys in New Haven who would be happy to assist Melonie in a slander suit. In plain English, LeAnne should be ashamed of herself! Melonie should have sent this nut job on her merry way! Oh, and if her bridesmaid is such an expert and had to explain to Melonie how to fix the dress, why didn't she do it herself? Here's a little hint to LeAnne- that dress was totally inappropriate for your figure. Spend more time in the gym, and less time writing hostile lies. Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worst experience with an alterations person ever. Melonie's husband stands there and watches the appointment, including the part where you are partially dressed and waiting for her to zip you up. Even though she knew that I was on a time crunch, she called the day before my second fitting to tell me that she didn't get the dress done in time and had to move the appointment back. When the second fitting did roll around, she hadn't even bustled the dress as requested. more

I went to Melonie with my Amsale Couture Bali Wedding Gown. I had purchased it from another bride, and the dress needed some serious alterations. I was so nervous to have anyone work on the expensive and intricate material such as alencon lace and silk organza which made up the gown's construction. I wasn't sure if it was possible to take a wedding gown customized for another person and turn it into my own through the alteration process. It was because of Melonie's hard work and expertise that I will be walking down the isle in the gown of my dreams. Melonie is so awesome to work with and becomes instantly loved by her clients. After being with her five minutes I felt like she was a life-long friend. She is wonderful at communication and follow-ups with her clients, and really listens to their needs and ideas. Beyond her amazing personality, she is THE BEST at what she does. The quality of her work was more than I could have hoped for, and being a bride on a budget (hence why I bought the Amsale pre-owned) I found her prices more than reasonable. She is such a great find because not only does she KNOW what she's doing, but she LOVES what she's doing. Melonie has an amazing style sense and knows the trends of fashion - all of which just add to the craftsmanship of her work. She doesn't know it yet but I am going to be sending her flowers just because I don't know how to thank her enough! She even designed and made my veil and it is completely one-of-a-kind. If you ever need clothing altered, re-vamped, or even created from scratch Melonie is the absolute best person to go to. There is no fabric she can't work with, and no details she'll overlook. My 2006 Prom was going to be one of the most important things to me. I had the perfect dress that i had been looking for for years and finally had found it. I am a size 3 in dresses and my last size dream dress at Coopers was a size 7 or 8. I went to her to have it altered and she did perfect she made it fit comfortably and she even added a button on the lower part of the dress so when dancing i could put my train up a little bit . She is nice funny and has great prices!!!!!!!! i deffinitly recommend her to anyone that wants there outfits done right. more
