Best

I have always been happy with the Al's provides and the way they do business. I have no idea what other shops are like beause the only place I would go is Al's.

Worst

Huge Selection, Great Service 6/9/2010

Al's is a great place to take a mower to be repaired they are very affordable and don't take shortcuts to fix your mower. They will do it the right way and they even stand behind repairs for 90 days. Other High points are their huge selection of parts and also mowers and other lawn equipment. There aren't many shops left like Al's and I would be hard pressed to come up with another shop that takes on the variety of repairs Al's does. Since being spoiled by Al's service I refuse to take my mower anywhere else to be serviced. I recommend this place to everyone very much worth checking out. Richard W Pros: Best mower shop around, last of its kind! Cons: No other shop like it! more

Great Selection of Used Mowers 6/9/2010

I happened to stumble upon Al's shop after a long day of trying to find a suitable mower. I was refreshed when I stepped through the door to see so many mowers around. I was greeted by one of the members of Al's staff and proceeded to tell him what I was looking for in a mower. He then proceeded to show me around, showing me a all options that met my specifications and would be within my budget. He was very knowledgeable, something that is lost when you visit a megacorporation like Home Depot who is there to take your money and do nothing for you after that. Al stands behind all his reconditioned mowers for a year. That shows that he has confidence in what he is putting out. I am happy with my purchase and will gladly go back to Al's for all my service needs. Pros: Excellent Sales Staff more

Excellent Shop With Knowledgeable Staff 6/9/2010

I went to Al's to look for a place that knew what to do to get my mower running as well as possible. They did an excellent job on completing necessary repairs and making my mower run like new. I had been frustrated with some other repair shops that hadn't done an adequate job in repairing my mower. I would hands down recommend anyone to pay a visit to Al's. They fix all kinds of mowers and other machinery and have some very interesting items for sale. Some that are very rare and hard to find. Overall I give Al's a big thumbs up and recommend them to everyone looking for quality service done the right way. Pros: Easy to find, Knowledgeable staff, and exceptional service more

Rude, arrogant, unethical, incompetent. 5/15/2010

I took my 3 year old Toro mower to Al's last May for a tune-up, oil change and overall service. It was not finished by the ""date promised."" I thought, ""okay, no big deal.""\r \r A week later, I picked up the mower and took it home to mow the lawn. I cranked it up, it fired, ran rough and immediately seized up! Upon inspection, it had NO OIL IN THE CRANKCASE.\r \r I immediately returned it (less then 20 minutes later. They did not recognize me. I told them the motor seized due to no oil in the crank case. They asked me how long it had been since I had picked it up (?)\r \r After another week, they told me it had thrown a rod, and they fixed it at no-charge. They warranteed their work for one-year, which I had them put in writing.\r \r This year, last week, I pulled my mower out to mow for the second time this season, and noticed a ring of oil on the chassis. While mowing my small lawn, the oil leak became much worse. I took it back to Al's. They had ""lost"" my paperwork.. Al said, without any paperwork, the warranty was void.\r \r I took my mower back to the house, and searched until I found my copies of the warranty. I then returned to Al's and hauled my mower back in. After waiting another 20 minutes in line. I gave them a copy of my signed warranty and explained that I thought the main seal was leaking after their engine repair. They gave me a new service slip and a new ""date promised.""\r \r This afternoon, after working a full day of overtime myself, I called to ask about the status of my mower. After being put on hold for over 10 minutes, and being asked what I was calling about 3 different times, a rude and arrogant person by the name of Allen yelled at me and said ""we are very busy here!"" When I explained how long I had been on hold and how many times I had been asked the same question, his only response about the readiness of my mower was ""it's probably not ready."" Really? It took you 10 minutes to ascertain my mower was ""probably not"" ready, by the ""date promised?"" \r \r Did you not consider that the rest of us are all busy, as well? \r \r I have already found another small enigine repair shop. The service is more professional, more customer service oriented, and their repairs more timely. I will not be returning to Al's for anything else and will activley advise all acquaintances to avoid using Al's ""services."" Pros: ??? Cons: Rude, arrogant, unethical, incompetent. more

Owner: ""If you don't like it you can go elsewhere"" 4/23/2010

I've been going to Al's for ten years and until last year was happy. Things taken in worked well afterward and they were ready on the promised date.\r \r Last spring I took in a Ryobi weed whacker. They kept it for most of the summer. Whenever I called I received an excuse about parts on order. Finally I went in to just get it back with the plan of taking it elsewhere. Magically it was done the very next day.\r \r This spring I brought that same trimmer in because it wouldn't start. When I got it home I found it still was hard to start and wouldn't keep running unless the trigger was pressed. Release the trigger and it would stall. This morning I couldn't get it to start at all so took it back.\r \r One of their people took it into the back and did something that made it start - but now it runs so slowly and has so little power that its useless.\r \r When I told the owner that I had been going there for years but was unhappy about the poor workmanship he told me that if I was unhappy I could go somewhere else. That is a suggestion I fully plan to take.\r You can do better elsewhere. Pros: Convenient location to me Cons: Poor quality service, more

Don't Go To Al's! 4/22/2010

I made the mistake of taking my mower here for warranty repair. Had to pay $25 down for the estimate. They decided not to fix the mower under warranty because they didn't thing the manufacturer would reimburse them. The price they quoted me was almost what I paid for the mower. I didn't get my down payment back. When I picked up my mower it was in pieces. Do yourself a favor, read the other reviews and go somewhere else. Most of what I saw in the store looked like used mowers with almost new prices. I doubt they will be around much longer. Pros: easy to find Cons: Small store with barred windows, heavy steal door, no parkin more

Al's is the best! 9/11/2009

Al’s is the best! We’ve been taking our lawnmowers and power equipment in for repairs. We find him extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and cost-effective. We are recommending his services to anyone. It is definitely worth the extra drive from Gresham. Chuck Hawkins, DVM more

WANTED: Good Customer Service 6/27/2009

Turned in a power washer to be repaired. 3 weeks later it was suppose to be done. It was not. When I did get it a week after it did not work. The pump was ceized. This is after inspection, tune-up and $100+ bill. I brought it back and was told it will be done this weekend. Well it has been over a week. Maybe this was where the crazy guy with a gun on Division (6/18/09) was coming from after such horrible service. For the third time I have been told ""I will have it first thing tomorrow."" I was questioned by the person answering the phone as if I were lying or make this up. When I asked to speak with a manager/ supervisor this person replied, ""I am Al."" Where do you go from there? WOW!! How is this guy in business? I wish I would have read this site before stepping foot in this place.\r ""Atitude is a reflection of leadership!"" Pros: Easy to find. Cons: Customer service, repair time, pricing more

they must be joking! 4/26/2009

The pushy, rude salesman was so quick to talk he forgot he was helping someone else. I kindly stepped aside while the annoyed customer finished. All of the posted prices were the same or more than new! I had just been to home depot comparing new lawn mowers prices and specifications and had my list in hand. The salesman boasted that they "" tear the whole mower apart, replace anything worn and give a 1 yr warranty."" The new one for the same price has a 2 yr warranty. the salesman offered to drop $20 off. I left feeling very glad to have done some product research. I should have read citysearch's reviews and saved myself some time and aggravation. more

Pretty rude 9/26/2008

We took our mower in for a major tune up at the beginning of Spring. By the end of Summer things that had been repaired or replaced were no longer working. I took it back in and was told I would be called with an estimate if there was a repair required and it would be done Saturday. I called today to see if they had an estimate yet. The man I spoke to asked when it was promised to be done. When I said tomorrow but I was waiting for an estimate he very rudely said ""then that's when it will be done!"" I had been bringing our mowers here every year for service....maybe not any more. Pros: A lot of selection in used mowers Cons: Service quality and customer service are poor more

Get your receipts and agreements in writing and NOTORIZED. 9/11/2008

My husband and son took three working lawnmowers in to Al's to exchange for a better one. He was busy and said to come back. When we came back he had already sold the lawnmowers and wasn't about to give us another one even though we had the receipt. One of the lawnmowers we had purchased from him just a couple of months earlier for 189.00. We had sold our rentals houses and didn't need all three of them anymore. So, he has the money from the lawnmowers and we have nothing. Get your receipts and agreements from this company notorized. Pros: Convenient location Cons: Unsatisfactory customer relations more

Look for another shop! Not impressed. 6/27/2008

Well this is my third trip to Al's. The first time I went to pick up my mower I paid and went home. On getting home I fired it up and it sounded really rough. So I called them up and they said to bring it in. I did so and when I got there they said that because the guy that worked on it wasn't there that they couldn't do any work on it or have one of the other guys look at it. So I had to leave it another week until they could look at it. Then My second trip I was told that it was working fine and that is how they sound. Well thats funny because when I dropped it off it sounded better. The last time I went to pick it up it looked like it had another mowers parts on it. One wheel didn't match and the screws that hold the handle on we mismatched. Not impressed. more

Customers Beware!!! Poor quality work and poor customer service. 6/5/2008

This business is less than reputable. Mower was returned with broken cover. Missing hardware that held the handle in place. The mower was left outside in the rain and not covered. Basically the mower after a complete tuneup looked and sounded worse than when I dropped it off. I would never be a repeat customer at this shop. more
