Editorial review from Citysearch 3/6/2014

We have been going to Alfie's for many years. Our special groomer, Crissy, took great care of our dog, Moppie, who passed away last year at age 14. She was a Bearded Collie and her fur would become very matted. Crissy always did a great job and we were very pleased with her work, telling others about Alfie's. Our new dog, Zoey, doesn't need as much special care, but she still gets an occasional grooming. Once again, our dog is treated with loving care and always comes out looking great. Zoey doesn't take well to strangers, but just loves Crissy. more

Long time customer at Alfie's 9/13/2011

I have been a very long time customer at Alfies and had the best groomer a dog could ask for. She was not only good at what she does, but very personable with my little guy. Although he would always be afraid when I took him in, he immediately was calm and happy with a wagging tail as soon as he saw her. She would get down on his level and pet him and kiss him on the forhead as if he were her own. I not longer have him but if and when I ever get another dog, this is were I will take him or her. My dog was like my son to me and never would I take him to a place that wasn't clean, professional and caring as they were. more

In Response To The Complaint Below 1/16/2011

I work at Alfies and will explain what happened. This person had a 10am appt. this was my client, they brought him in 40 min. early. I was in the back washing my 9am dog when my co worker (that just got back from maternity leave) took the dog in. She put their pet in our front kennels and then recieved a phone call regarding her baby and had to immediately leave. Because she was concerned about her new baby she forgot to check him in on on the books. I came out after bathing my dog and saw that it was 10 and that my client had not come in yet. I waited for about 15 min. and then called and left them a message. Their dog in the meanwhile was completely silent in the kennel ( typically when a dog is in the front with us they make noise so its obvious they are there). They call back about 15 min. later and my other co worker answered the phone, she didnt think the dog was there because she was also in the back washing a dog when their dog was brought in, she had told them that their dog was not in yet and suggested that maybe they took them to another shop (thinking maybe they were new clients), she went and got me on the phone with them and it was then discovered that there was a lack of communication and protocall and that in fact the dog was there. I was extremely embarrassed and we felt terrible. This was a huge mistake on our part, I profusely apologized and tried to explain our system that has never failed us until this moment, all because an emergency had come up and the girl had to leave to tend to her newborn. I immediately got the dog and started bathing it and working on it. I was in the middle of giving him his haircut when the owner came in being extremely rude toward me. I apologized over and over trying to help him understand what took place. It wasnt a drawn out situation, we figured it out within minutes of being on the phone with them. By 10:30 I was working on their dog. I was more then willing to finish the job and he refused for me to finish. He said he just wanted to pay for the dog and leave, so I charged him accordingly and gave him his dog. This has never happened before, nor will it ever happen again. We pride ourselves on our efficiency and work and enjoy our job as well as our clients. Please dont let this hinder giving us a try. We are good groomers, we just made a mistake that will not occur again. more

Located at 4229 SE 182nd in Gresham, Alfie's is a disorganized, unprofessional establishment. We dropped our Cairn Terrier at 9:20 on a recent Saturday for a 10am appointment only to receive a call at 10:45 to inquire of we were bringing our dog for our scheduled appointment. When we called and told them our dog was already there they told us she wasn't. They even asked if we had taken her some place else. Aser some discussion they suddenly found our dog. Turns out she was locked in a crate for over 2 hours with no one knowing she was there. The owner saw this incident as an Ooops and expressed no concern ot even how to fix this issue moving forward. She didn't even offer a refund for the poor grooming job they performed. I wouldn't take our dog back there on a dare and would highly recommend serious thought be given by anyone thinking of taking their dog to this facility. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all cost! more

Grrr 4/6/2008

We took our two Cavaliers to be groomed and asked that ABSOLUTELY NO CLIPPING be done except for the hair growing over the pads of their feet. When our girls came home, all of the feathers on their back legs had been clipped nearly off and most of the feathering on their feet had been trimmed off. We were also told that our girls had both nipped at the groomers while being groomed. I don't believe this for a minute. They have never nipped at anyone in their lives. I must believe that if, in fact, they did nip, it was probably for good reason. Were they handled roughly?, Were they treated in a disrespectful manner? Cavaliers are, by nature, very loving, friendly dogs not prone to ""nipping"" or biting in any manner. Giving this grooming joint even one star is too many! They have definitely lost us as customers. Pros: Close to Home Cons: Dirty, Unfriendly, Unprofessional more
