I do feel strongly the prices based on the average prices I seen on the internet were expensive. My $1400 job averages about $750 . The technician could not guarantee me that the repair would be the correct repair and the compressor not be bad. If the reversing valve was replaced, and the compressor was bad too, it would be on me. The problem with that is a new dry unit is $1900, but I am already out $1400 IF the compressor was bad. So yes, it was a roll of the dice. The unit appears to be working. So for 8 lbs of freon, and $160 warrantied part, $78 service call and three hours labor, It was a pricey repair. I had spoken to a former local technician that use to work locally as well and he said as well that was extremely high.
