Tonight, my friends asked to go to Addis because they told me it was a unique place and the food was good. \r When I went, I was open minded and the place seemed quite busy on a ...

Amazing Food! 8/8/2006

We visited Addis Red Sea last night, and were completely floored! The food was fantastic, with a very homely feel to it. The service was pretty decent. We didn't wait more than 10 minutes to be seated. I would definitely go back there again... and again... and again... Pros: Excellent food, Unique decor Cons: Parking more

Worth the wait 6/12/2006

The restaurant *is* slow and very often crowded. There is usually quite a wait. But the food makes it all worth it!\r \r I'm not going to repeat what everyone has said about the food; here are a few other thoughts:\r \r Not recommended for germphobes as everything is served communally.\r Great for groups and those new to Ethiopian -- plenty of fish and chicken available if goat or lamb is too weird. \r \r Pros: food Cons: size of restaurant more

Pretty good 2/21/2006

This was a fun place to go with a group (though it was very crowded and despite having a reservation, we had to wait a bit). It is the best Ethiopian food I know of in Boston, though it might not hold up as well next to top Ethiopian restaurants in other cities. The service was slow, but since we were enjoying ourselves it didn't matter. And our waitress was very nice and informative. I might agree with some earlier comments about value for the price, however. Pros: fun with groups, decent food, nice staff Cons: crowded, long waits, slow service more

Slowest service EVER 2/9/2006

The food at this place is actually very good and reasonably priced. The service is among the worst I have ever had. I have actually been 3 times (because I love the food) and everytime I promise myself I won't go back because the service is so damn slow (even when the restaurant is half empty). If you are going to go, go early and bring some snacks because you won't be eating any time soon. more

Excellend ethnic place for dinner 1/28/2006

I like - Great place for ethnic food. I had high expectations from this place - it lived up to it. Inexpensive compared to other food places around this area. Lot of food options for the indian vegitarians. Food is very close to indian food with african flavor. Injera is very nice with vegitable / meat side dishes. Combination option at the end of the menu is highly recommended. Bhaklava & Coffee are great for desert I didn't like - They don't take reservation for a group less than 6. Had to wait for an hour to get in. Chairs used for seating are too small and no back support. Not good for sitting for longer duration. Very small place and conjected - tables are arranged too close to each other. more

perfect. 1/8/2006

Great food. Great price. And excellent ambience. Great for a romantic date or in a small group. more

Red Sea? Yes siree! 12/12/2005

My brother and I visited this restaurant because of the many reviews others gave it. We were not disappointed! The food was wonderful, the staff was warm and friendly, and the all around experience was one we will not soon forget! This was our first experience with Ethiopian food and it will not be our last! Pros: Great Food, Great Service more

Fantastic 6/9/2005

I'm not a huge fan of ethnic food, but I've always enjoyed Ethiopian. This is by far the best experience. The food is excellent, right down to the bread ""plates."" It's always very quiet, and perfect if you're looking for a relaxed experience. Be sure to try some of the honey wine - the best I've had. more

interesting but not great 5/10/2004

The atmosphere was interesting, but the service left a lot to be desired. The wait staff, when they acknowledged us at all, was not helpful. While the food was good and I would enjoy eating Ethiopian again, I will avoid this restaurant as this place is just too average. Pros: atmosphere Cons: , very slow service more

Such a nice change 8/5/2003

Went there with a group of 7 for friend's birthday. All bar one had never had ethopian before. We ate every bite! Have to agree though the bread is soggy.Chicken and beef dishes are very tasty.I'm a believer in quality not quantity so portion sizes didn't matter that much.Actually we all found(including the guys) that we had plenty to eat. REally friendly staff and someone constantly refilling our water glasses which I have to say never happens at any Newbury St restuarant. Great place to go if you actually want to chat 7 of us had intended going on to bar but instead decided to stay on and have coffee because we could chat easily there. I think all of us would go back! Pros: atmosphere, attentive staff, nice variety Cons: soggy bread, expensive wine list more

Skip It 11/22/2002

This place has a great atmosphere. We decided to try something new, but were pretty disappointed with the results. This place is over priced, portions are very small and the bread is soggy and tasteless. Services was slow, but they were nice overall. Either way, we never plan on going to Addis again, what a poor experience! Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Price, Portions, Service more

Simply the best! 10/6/2002

Extremely enjoyable, ambient, atmosphere. Food was superb, both in taste and presentation. Perfect atmosphere for chatting with friends or sharing a meal with someone special. Pros: Excellent Food, Inexpensive, Ambient Atmosphere Cons: Tough Parking more

Mediocre in comparison 9/18/2002

This is a cute restaurant with a great atmosphere, and eating with your hands is definitely an experience worth trying. However, the praise ends there. After visiting ""Dahlak"" in Philadelphia, I fell in love with Ethiopian. Dahlak's food was to die for. I had high expectations for Addis, but was disappointed. The bread was tasteless/soggy, and portions were small. The staff was nice, but inattentive. I went for a late dinner, and they were SO SLOW that I had to get up and walk to the front twice to ask for something. Their no-refill sodas are $1.50, and their selection is limited. The food wasn't that great, and was certainly nothing compared to Dahlak. Maybe if you've never had ethiopian, this will be a treat for you, but if you're expecting great ethiopian, you will be disappointed. My advice: if you're ever in Philly, make sure you go to Dahlak. Pros: ambience, inexpensive Cons: mediocre food, slow service, small selection more
