Buyer Beware 1/2/2012

This company advertises heavily in the local junk mail coupon flyers. Their advertised prices look very competitive...but watch out! I recently took them up on their $60 Lube & Tune special. The office manager, Cheryl, confirmed this price on the phone when I scheduled a Saturday appointment. When the service technician presented me the bill however, there was a $15 ""fuel charge"" tacked onto it. I was not informed about any such add-on charge when I scheduled my appointment, nor do their coupons have any small print to say there might be. Never mind that I live well within city limits and a whopping 4 miles away from their office. Of course, the office was closed Saturday so I couldn't call on the spot to dispute it. Also, I decided on the technician's advice to have my springs replaced for an additional $175. Later I learned the going rate for those parts is half that much from any other shop. In fairness, the technician did a thorough job of his work and he was at it for about 90 minutes without charging any overtime. In sum, they did a good job, but I feel cheated by their hidden charge and highly overpriced parts. more

Extremely Satisfied...I Recommend This Company 9/30/2011

I've owned my home for six years and have never put much thought into the garage door until a windstorm blew through my neighborhood and damaged my door about three weeks ago. Several of my neighbors had experienced the same issue as a result of the storm and had used A1 to perform the repair work or to replace the door completely. I was initally going to call another company, but, I listened to my neighbor decided to use A1 instead. The technician came out, explained the different options in a professional manner, and let me decide what was right for me. I was very please with their customer service and will use A1 again. more

SERVICE, SERVICE, THE BEST SERVICE 9/17/2011

AWESOME!!! I have never had such amazing service. My garage door broke and I was in a panic. I called and the nicest lady answered right away and calmed me down. Even though it was late and pouring rain she sent one of her guys out right away. Ryan knew exactly the issue and had my door fixed and working like new. Friendly, knowlegeable, reliable, and affordable. I will always recommend A1 Garage Door Specialts. Thanks so much!! \r more

Garage door not shutting all the way 8/9/2011

RIP OFF! False representation and pushed things did not need! Make appt with a women and she said no surcharge to come out to house. Lie., charged $15 fuel charge. I called back on day of appt, talked to Ryan, owner, said 1 door not lowering all the way. He said an adjustment was properly all that needed to be done. This is part of a lube and tuneup on a door/opener and they had a special for $60/door. I had coupon for that amt. also. Repair man on time, BUT 1st thing he says is I needed was rollers. I asked if this would fix problem. He said yes, plus doors will be quieter. After 150/door, plus 60/door for lubing and adjusting, total $ 450, he said I needed new door opener on door that was still not lowering. Said rollers had lifetime warranty, I got no warranty in writing, just billing receipt.\r Called around after this for rollers; average was charges/h , + rollers/door, $50-$60/door. Overhead Door highest price was $97/hr+$25 fuel surcharge, $60-90/door depending on roller, lubing/adjusting opener would be included., should take ~ 30 mins/door. TOTAL 120+125 = <250. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT ROLLER TYPE I GOT FOR $150, A1 person out here less than 45 mins. BOLTS on hinges that hold rollers lose and ready to fall off. LAST STRAW- my husband looked at doors afterwards said door was hitting sensor that detects when door is closed. He adjusted that and all works. $450 FOR WHAT, THINGS I DID NOT NEED, THANK GOD I DID NOT BUY AN OPENER FOR $350. \r more
