50 Fathoms Pet Shop

These guys sold me a sick rat! I loved this beautiful, super soft little grey male rat that I found here among the feeder stock. I took him home with two females I also bought here. Within a few days, one of the females mysteriously died and the male developed a lateral abcess that he is going to the vet later today for. The staff here are great for animals that they consider worth their time and effort. They unfortunately do not practice the same standard of excellence with their ""feeder"" animals, which is not good practice at all. more

Great selection, fair prices, well stocked and I'll go back to support buying local. All stores have young staff, so I accept it and move on. more

They have many good supplies but I strongly suggest do not get any reptiles from there. me and a friend bought a baby ball python each. My friends died after a week of owning it. I noticed mine had a good bit of mucus in its mouth after a day after i purchased it. I brought it to the vet and it had to be hospitalized because it had some serious sort of bacteria infection. I called to complain to the store and they said they didnt say much besides they couldnt do anything for me. I loved the store at first but after this I will never go back. Btw i have payed over 300 in vet bills for the snake I got there and i have only had it for 3 weeks. more

My fiance and I went to 50 Fathoms to buy some rat food for our two ratty boys. We went to look at the rodents, and saw that they had a huge group of rat pups. We fell in love with a little beige hooded rat, and wanted to take him home. However, when I asked the staff how old they were and where they came from, they had no clue. The males and females were mixed together, and some of the females were obviously pregnant. However, the associate helping us assured us that our rat was healthy. I took him home, and he immediately started sneezing and had discharge from his eyes and nose. Now we are worried he will get our older boys sick too! When I called to complain, the staff member said that they would take him back, but they wouldn't be able to do anything for the sick rats still at the store. They were feeder rats, of course, but any animal in a pet shop should be healthy if it could be someone's pet. We kept the rat, but he needs to see a vet. The staff is friendly, but they are NOT knowledgeable about anything except fish. Instead of supporting this store, I will be ordering my rat food from now on. more

me and my husband love this store we are going back we brought a snake from here today we love the little guy we are going back to buy another one tomorrow lol they have so much stuff to the service was great to more

The selection is great, but they sell out fast, so get there when the new shipments come in. If you have questions, they dont mind detailed explinations. They are pretty accomodating with store credits when warranted, but be sure you can back your claim. The guys have a sarcastic wit at times, and if youre a newbie you might think they are rude, but long time customers know, they love a good comeback, so it's all in fun. Overall, if you are addicted to reptiles or cichlids, this a great pet store. Pros: Their knowledge is extensive, enviroment addictive. Cons: Lack of political correctness mistaken for rudeness more

First trip to this store.We were loving the store at first ,great selection of reptiles,fish and rodents. when we were looking at the rodents we noticed one of them just had babies and was starting to eat them ( which is not uncommon) we mentioned it to the guy working in the store just in case they didnt know. he very rudely said i cant control that we breed them and turned and walked away. so did we. straight out the door never to return again. we had planned on buying my son a snake for easter but if they are that rude when you are trying to help what are they going to do if you have a problem with a pet bought from them? Never a disappointing trip. Great selection of reptiles, fish, and supplies. They carry a lot of hard to find snakes, monitors, and tarantulas. The staff is very knowledgeable about fish as well as reptiles. Their cichlid section is always worth checking out. They carry many rare and wild caught African cichlids, but you gotta be there for the new shipments. The fish sell fast. If they don't have what you are looking for, feel free to ask, because if the fish you want isn't there, they can usually order it for you at a fair price. Many exotic plecos in stock normally as well. Tanks are extremely clean and well kept. Overall, a good spot to buy fish, supplies, reptiles, or just hang out. A very cool and knowledgeable pet store that tries their very best to satisfy the customer, what more could you ask for? I rate them a 10 out of 10 for their efforts. There are no pet shops nor people that can make everyone happy. I really don't have any gripes with this place, besides they can order you what you want if they don't have it in most cases. A decent store with a large selection... of cichlids. They have -plenty- of cichlids, and very few other kinds of fish. Also, if you're looking for smaller cichlids, you won't find many here. Most of the fish here are full-grown (or really close to it). Pros: specializes in cichlids Cons: specializes in -really- big adult cichlids more

This place has a great selection and is well kept. The staff seemed up top date and knowledgeable. The kicked back atmosphere was a nice change from stuffy pet shops I'm use to. If i had to complain it would be that they seemed to be under-staffed for the high number of customers in and out of the store. Pros: good service clean shop Cons: under staffed more

Although they have a wonderful selection of fish, reptiles, and rodents available, stop here only if you know exactly what you're looking for. All of the staff consists of college-aged guys with no interest in providing good customer service. They are not at all professional, will use terrible language in front of your children, and seem to be much more concerned with getting your money than properly satisfying your needs. They seem to be very knowledgeable, but when verifying their statements against other experts and several internet articles, I found that they contridicted a lot of truths.
