Review content:
At the Sagebrush Medical Plaza, near the corner of River Blvd. and Columbus, there is a separate pharmacy inside the building that is part of the medical complex BUT it is not part of the medicine clinic or lab. Please see my review of the Sagebrush Medical Plaza, Medicine Clinic for more info.
To go to the pharmacy, you enter the second set of double doors [counting from River Blvd], the same set of doors you use to enter the Medicine Clinic but as you enter the long wide hallway, turn left into the first wide doorway to enter the waiting room for the pharmacy and lab.
Upon entering the waiting room, you must swerve to the right and pull a number from the number dispenser. This is your number and is the order in which the pharmacy will see you and take your prescriptions for filling or re-filling.
Have a seat in the waiting room and wait till your number is called. Unfortunately this can take awhile. In the past, I have waited an hour just to drop off my prescriptions, and then there is an hour or more wait for the prescription just to BE filled. So this can be a time-consuming process just to get your medicine. They do have a bathroom right in the waiting room, there is a TV that is usually on a news channel or on Dr. Phil, and the seats are comfortable so it is not an unpleasant wait.
After your prescription is filled, you go to the first window [nearest to the number dispenser] to pick them up. Sometimes you have to show ID and you must sign your name for each prescription item.
For convenience, and this is something that I have not tried yet, there is a refill phone number on each bottle of your meds that you can call when you need a refill. I have heard that all you have to do for a refill is call the number, let the pharmacy know that you need a refill and then you can go pick up the refill when they say it will be ready. I will be trying this soon but it is only for refills and can not be used for new prescriptions, not even prescriptions of a drug that you have already been taking but a new increase in prescription amount, i.e. from 10 mg to 20 mg.
I didn’t mention this in my Sagebrush Medical Plaza review but the whole Sagebrush Medical Plaza system is owned by Kern County and is connected to Kern Medical Center. Sagebrush Medical Plaza will have your medical records and so will KMC since they are connected. I find this very convenient since the doctors are able to refer you for anything that needs to be done for you medically. Sagebrush and KMC will allow you to use either the pharmacy at Sagebrush OR the pharmacy at KMC, NOT both. They do make you choose one or the other. Since I use the Medicine Clinic at Sagebrush, their pharmacy is very convenient for me to use so that is where I get my prescriptions filled.
All in all, I personally find the entire Sagebrush Medical Plaza complex very convenient and easy to use and I would recommend it to anyone who needs low cost medical care. The people and the care they give to their patients [in my personal experience] does not make you feel like you are a low-cost patient but that your health is important to them and that they want to help you to get well in any way they can.
