Our neighbors suggested we try Glass Wall as it is the newest addition to fine dining in The Heights. We made reservations for Thursday night for 4 people and were in for the surprise of our lives. We were greeted with complimentary valet(Thank God, I'm cheap and HATE to pay for parking). The hostess said our table was being prepped and would be ready in a few moments. The place was hopping. Some sort of Hawaiian version of ""Somewhere Over The Rainbow"" was playing. I asked the GM who sang it and he told me it was Israel followed by some Hawaiian last name I cannot possibly pronounce. Anyway, it was laid back and cool. The place is simply decorated, warm sunflower walls, draped fabrics, and a neat glass wall framed in smooth river rocks. The tables were nicely appointed with cream colored linens, crystal wine glasses and nice silverware.(I'm getting tired of bare tables, rolled up silverware, and crappy service at fine dining prices.) My wife and I both ordered crabcakes to start and our guests had a spinach salad and barbecued quail. I knew we were in the right place as soon as we tried the food. Two chefs were working furiously in the open kitchen, pans flying, I thought they were going to start juggling! For our main course we had Lamb chops with a braised lamb shank, black sea bass(very lite), thick cut Tuna filet with spicy noodles, grilled pork chops with cabbage mashed potatoes. Everything was amazing. I usually like my tuna cooked through, but my waiter convinced me medium rare was the way to go. Service was fantastic even though the place was packed. I can't remember another Houston restaurant where a waiter crumbed my table or held open the restroom door for my wife. I even liked the little chocolates that accompanied our capuccinos. Details matter. Last but not least, dessert. Carribean creme brulee(YUM). One of the owners came by and told us about his dessert special, shepherd's pie. Chocolate and caramel tart thingy with whipped cream. Deadly rich!!! Needless to say, we are ecstatic to have a new fun place to eat in the Heights 'Hood. I work in Midtown and hang at Ibiza alot. I like that the glass wall guys have a similar approach to wine pricing. I don't want to feel gouged when I go out. I payed $40 more for the same bottle of Altamura cabernet at a local steakhouse. You glass wall guys rock, see you soon.
