Review content:
We canceled our four day, three night Bahamas Cruise with Security Travel USA and requested a refund of our pre-trip expenses, based on the following. We were led to believe we had “won” a cruise to the Bahamas with a paid four day, three night stay (not including food). Once we paid a $175 “Administrative Fee” and received our packet with reservation procedures, we discovered we also owed Port and Service Fees of $198 required to process our reservations. We were also told that Security Travel had special contract rates with local hotels where we could stay prior to cruise departure and upon our return. We were not told there would be penalties for canceling reservations made through Security Travel for these local hotel accommodations. Raul booked the Days Inn for us at $119.00 a night for two nights. (We subsequently discovered another Days Inn closer to the port offering shuttle service to the ship for substantially less money.)
Raul also recommended upgrading our hotel accommodations and suggested we review the Security Travel USA website for accommodation upgrades. The upgrade to the Flamingo Bay, which he recommended, would have cost an additional $200, not including room taxes. The Security Travel Website was not functioning, so we reviewed websites for the recommended accommodations and travelers reviews. To our dismay, we discovered the suggested accommodations were rated poorly with regard to comfort, cleanliness, noise and smoking, with the exception of the most expensive full-service hotel.
When we spoke to Raul about our decision to cancel our trip we were told: the “Administrative Fee” of $175 was non-refundable; $100 of our Port and Service Fee would be charged to cancel cruise reservations, with a $98 return to us; we would be charged $25 for canceling each of our Days Inn reservations ($50 total) because of Security Travel’s contract with this hotel. (We then called Days Inn to inquire about their cancellation fee. We were told there were no cancellation fees up to 4:00 pm on the day of check in and they were not aware of any contract regarding cancellation fees with Security Travel.)
Security Travel provided misleading information, charged hidden fees, and booked minimal facilities for the Bahamas stay, (the latter based on poor customer reviews). We would not use this agency again. It appears that Security Travel USA lacks honesty and integrity and exists to serve themselves, not the naive customers they hook.
Cons: Misleading Information, hidden charges, poor ratings
