Atmosphere is decent and wait staff is adequate but the food was not very good. First and foremost Abuelo's is way too spicy for the most folks in the Phoenix area. There is only one salsa and is hot. Most Mexican food places have a choice of at least two salsas: hot and mild (pico de gallo).
For each choices we had tonight the food tasted like it was laden with cayenne pepper. Nothing was flavorful. The sad thing is in the past this restaurant offered flavorful meals with a low amount of added spice.
Bottom line is I could not eat my enchiladas, retried beans or the Mexican rice. The owner ship needs to get a clue of whom they are catering to.
