The old UofO Museum of Art had a major infusion of funding. Nearly doubled in size & revitalized, a visit to the museum is a great way to spend the afternoon. Entry fees are $5 (and less for seniors, museum membres and children.) Almost a secret is that the first Friday of every month is free admission!
There are striking permanent collections of Korean, Japanese and Chinese art, including interesting costumes & sculptures. The Chinese thrones have been sort of centerpieces for these displays for decades. There is also an on-going gallery showing European icons.
Most exciting are some of the recent special shows. Seeing Andy Warhol's work up close was awesome. Through June 2006 Van Gogh's painting "A Woman Walking in A Garden" will be on display along with a beautiful pointillist landscape by Henri Edmond Cross. Pointillist painters use tiny dots to create their works, and the Cross painting should not be missed.
On the University of Oregon campus. There is also a small gift shop and a cafe (a branch of the celebrated Eugene Marche restaurant.)
