Hole-in-the-wall with excellent food 10/24/2008

Don't expect to be dazzled by the decor - just expect some honest-to-goodness southern Louisiana home cooking. It's cafeteria style with several daily plate lunch specials offered on a rotating basis throughout the week. My personal favorite is the chicken fricasse which is only available on Wednesdays. I also love the chicken and sausage jambalaya, the red beans and rice (daily), the gumbos (daily), and the cornbread. Very generous portions for a modest price makes this place very hard to beat! more

Best cajun food in Houston 6/26/2008

I've been coming here for about five years now and have never had a bad experience, My favorite is the chicken fricassee on Wednesday, the flavor is incredible. I'm a fan of a good dark roux and they definately have it going on with the gumbo. The ambiance isn't the best, and its difficult to eat healthy here but if you want great flavorful food you will love Zydecos. Pros: Food, iced tea, and food Cons: You might put on a couple pounds more

Favorite Friday Lunches -- Stuffed Pork Chops 1/29/2008

Whenever I'm home I make a point to go back to Zydeco's. One of the many things I miss about working downtown was the short walk over to the Louisiana Zydeco's for the ridiculously deeee-lish SPC as we lovingly call it. Get there early cuz when they run out it's devastating. But the jambalaya and red beans and rice make up for it, and OMG the size of those helpings!!! Now my mouth is watering!!!! Pros: Food is insanely good Cons: Parking can be a challenge, but that means there's good food inside and everyone wants it! more

like being back home in La. 1/3/2003

This, I told my friend, is proper cajun eatin' Big tables for crawfish, pictures of Louisiana on the walls. I gave them a challenge - crawfish etoufee. Many restaurants screw this up due to chewy crawfish or improper spices. This was as good as Ive had. Spicy enough to make my sinuses open up. Tender crawfish making me think its going to be a good year for em after two bad ones. The jalapeno cornbread on the side was some of the best Ive had. An excellent eating experience. All this for $6-8 dollars for most entrees. As they come with two sides, this will fill up just about anybody. Ill probably split it with my wife on my next visit, real soon! Trolley bus D will bring you straight to it from downtown Houston for free. Pros: Succulent crawfish, Perfect spices, Looks like Cajun rest Cons: Not by my house more

Great Cajun Food! 12/31/2002

Zydeco's is one of the 'staples' of lunchtime downtown. I've eaten there several dozen times and it's always good. Pretty authentic cajun. Pros: good parking, consistant, great value more
