Gem of Gwynedd 3/12/2011

William Penn Inn was recommended to me from a few friends. I took my girlfriend there for dinner on Friday night and we sat in the Monet Dining room. They had music playing and the entire vibe of the place was one of royalty. Server was extremely attentive as was the entire staff there. Everyone is so helpful and friendly its just such a great feeling. AND!! That's before we even had food! The cocktails were amazing, nice to know people can still make a great martini. The Food was DELICIOUS! My girlfriend ordered the Braised Shortribs with a balsamic demi that was to die for. I splurged and ordered the Penn's Surf and Turf and I still have dreams of the meal! They are def. up on the trends as the meals were plated like you see on Top Chef. Dessert was right on par with the rest of the course. This place is a GEM!!! more

Celebration buffet 6/20/2010

My boss at my work said that she likes to go to the William Penn inn for nice family occasions so I wanted to make Father's Day very nice for my husband/family. I called nearly a month prior to make reservations for our special family outing. more

Much Better Places for the Money 3/4/2010

Been here once. Food was fine. Very busy. Rooms are beautiful. Very overpriced for quality and technique of food preperation. Pros: Beautiful Inn Cons: Price for quality and presentation more

very good place to go 10/4/2009

the inn has always been a great place to go ive attended weddings, lunch, family parties, brunch on sundays with my girlfriends and recently for dinner. the menu is always a treat. anything that the inn does they do it very well. the restaurants are only the tip of the iceberg the inn has its own bakery and in house florist. if you dont want any doubt about a night out being worth it go to the inn you will be very happy. Pros: live music, ambiance and menu more

WOW....love the new small plate menu and jazz 10/4/2009

Dinner at the William Penn Inn last night was wonderful. The addition of the small plate menu is a creative way of enjoying William Penn Inn?s vast menu. We enjoyed it tapas style while listening to Father Jon play Jazz on the piano and sipping great wine. It was great to find a local restaurant in the suburbs with great Jazz, drinks and small plate menu! I highly recommend you check it out!!!! more

something new on the menu! 10/4/2009

I frequently dine at The William Penn Inn and was so pleasantly surprised during my last visit to see the new small plates on the menu. Just enough great food reasonably priced. more

Dreadful service--incompetent and rude. 6/6/2008

At lunch in the Commonwealth Club last week, I ordered a daiquiri, which turned out to be a big mistake. The waitress asked if I wanted it on the rocks or with salt, which should have given me my first clue. I explained that I wanted a traditional, non-frozen daiquiri. After a long delay, (everyone else's drinks had long been served), she brought me a frozen pina colada. When I said that wasn't a daiquiri, she became rude and abusive. Next, a man who identified himself as a bartender offered to get me a replacement. I said that if they didn't know how to make a daiquiri, that would be fine: I would order something else. No, no, he said, it's a simple matter. After a long delay, (by now our food had been served) he reappeared with a glass of flavored vodka. When I said that daiquiris were not made with vodka, he too became rude and defensive (although not as bad as the waitress had been), and said that that was the way they make them there! more

Service, ambiance, food 11/5/2007

We came to WP for a small birthday party (10). We were taken to a room straight out of a Dickens novel. The room was furnished with elegant antiques. The mantle bore a georgeous floral arrangement. The table was set elegantly with fine linen and china that would make your grandmother proud. I was reminded of Thanksgiving dinners of yesteryear. The service was superb and the food excellent. Everything was perfect. In contrast to the prim and proper table settings, the ambiance was casual, cozy, and comfortable. We had a wonderful intimate 60th birhtday celebration. We were there late, but no one came to say it's closing time. The William Penn Inn is a class act. I had the best Martini ever. more

Banquet 8/22/2007

I just recently attended a birthday party at the William Penn Inn. I never realized how beautiful and elegant the William Penn Inn is; it was the first event I've attended there and I am now looking at the possibility of having my wedding there! It was absolutely beautiful, the service superb and the food was excellent! I highly recommend checking it out for any possible banquet function or just to simply dine there. It's such a historical building and the thought of getting married there makes me feel like a part of the history. Pros: Banquets more

Saturday Dinner! 8/22/2007

I just recently had dinner this past Saturday Evening in the Commonwealth Club. It was absolutely delightful. The Atmosphere is elegant. I enjoyed perfectly cooked lamb chops and it must be one of the best preparation in Philadelphia! My husband's surf and turf was a nice gourmet twist to a traditional surf and turf. The wine list was abundant and almost too much to choose from, however the kind server helped with a recommendation that complimented both of our dinners but was economical. I definitely recommend whenever you get a chance to head to the William Penn Inn to do so. My husband and I frequently dine here! Pros: Food and Ambiance! more

AMAZING ANNIVERSARY! 8/22/2007

My husband and I are frequent diners at the William Penn Inn and we recently visited to celebrate our anniversary and to dine in the Monet Dining Room. It was absolutely amazing! The food was absolutely spectacular, the service was excellent. We were escorted to the table where a half dozen roses were waiting for us. Along with the roses we also received a complimentary cake. I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my anniversary! Pros: Frequent Diner Program more

Wedding fiasco 6/19/2007

I went to a wedding recently at the William Penn Inn, and despite the bride's family requesting that the filet mignon be cooked at least medium-well, I was served a too-rare steak. I sent it back, and it was a little more cooked on the outside, but not cooked on the inside. I ate a little bit of the outer, more cooked parts to be polite, but regretted it. My mother and I both got staph from the meat and were sick all night and the next day. She had also sent the meat back for a second heating. Pros: nice interior, great staff Cons: food quality more

Romantic, dignified resaurant 12/19/2006

We went there for my birthday and it was excellent. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was delicious. We were seated immediately and the service was great. The Key Lime pie was the best I ever tasted. We have been going there for years and have never been disappointed. Pros: Excellent service, Beautiful. Great Food more

The Best of Everything 10/13/2003

The food, service and ambience are consistently perfect. One of the MOST romantic restaurants you could ever possibly dine at. Given the consistently superb quality of the food, the excellent service, extensive wine list and the elegant decor, the menu prices are VERY reasonable for what you receive in return. We got married in the Carriage Room 9/29/02 and Shelley made sure everything was perfect on our big day. Worth every penny we spent here! Stays in guest suites are great too! Pros: excellent food, extremely romantic, exceptional service Cons: none, none, and none more

weddings 2/21/2003

wonderful food ....superb service....excellent choice for any reception or party... Pros: good parking, most services for you more

A nice place... 2/13/2003

We're not seafood fans, so we found the menu a little limiting, but decent. The food was well prepared and it was a nice enough place, but I thought it was a bit overpriced. Certainly a place to go for a special occasion, but not a normal night out. A better steak can be had at the Longhorn and a much better Prime Rib value can be had at both ""The Trappe"" & ""My Freinds Tavern"" although you sacrafice the atmosphere. Pros: Fancy, Good Food Cons: Fancy more

elegance 2/10/2003

this restaurant is classy elegant and gorgeous at christmas the decorations inside and out are fabulous along with the food. sunday brunch is delicious selections are plentiful. a must for those who treasure ambiance and elegant food my hats off to the chef. no matter how busy they are the service never changes it's incredible you never have to wait for anything this is definately a 5 star restaurant Pros: service, selections Cons: needs more parking more

Fine dining at a fine price 11/11/2002

Great ambience, a good selection on the menu, good selection of drinks, and definitely reasonable prices especially if you come in early for the prix fixe dinner. My only reservation is that the wait staff sometimes tries to rush your decision. Pros: Good Parking, Decent prices, Good Selection more

The Wonderful William Penn Inn 9/5/2002

Beautiful place with different dining rooms. Classic fancy restaurant menu with a few more modern touches. The food is all prepared beautifully and served by respectful but still friendly servers. I like that they still have an old-fashioned salad bar...it makes me feel a bit like I'm somewhere that's been around forever (I was born in 1970 and ALL restaurants had salad bars when I was a kid). The rack of lamb is beyond superb. Pros: beautiful decor, spacious but intimate, Easy to find Cons: pricey more

brunch is outstanding 8/25/2002
