Editorial review from Citysearch 4/10/2015

I think this hospital is a great place. I had emergency this Easter weekend and they took me saturday and sunday without any waiting. I have a hamster, so it was not easy to find a vet on saturday in a hurry. I brought my hammy as soon after the call. Luckily, I live in westwood so I took Lyft. I got the best vet Doctor Jim Shulke examining my little hammy on Easter weekend. It was quick and calming for me and hammy as he was calm and sleepy after the doctor. Wonderful people, who are there when you need them for your pet. They are like a family, they listen ask questions, answer yours, let you bring your pet right away and they are open every day. I have no family in states but this people were here for me on Easter weekend. more

Overpriced and underqualified 11/6/2010

Since they were bought by VCA several years back they have used bullying tactics to hard sell services, and are distant, aloof, and uncaring. The front desk is cold and lazy. I had to wait ten minutes to be acknowledged every time I went in. The only doctor who has\r any warmth is Dr. Schulke. The new young asian woman dr who told me my dog had lung cancer was horrible when I came back several months later with my new puppy. He had had his last in his series of puppy vaccines two weeks before and she insisted on giving him a full set immediately or she would not treat him. He was just there for a well puppy check because I still intended to use them as my vet. My breeder had said no way let anyone vaccinate him again, and I foolishly let this vet bully me into it because I thought I could trust her, but all she wanted was money. They make a fortune off vaccines, most of what your animal doesn't need. He ended up with a $1,500.00 vet bill (at a better vet, I never went back) a week later more

Great vets who love animals 6/22/2009

I think the vets here are super, especially Dr. Schulke and Dr. Alemzedeh. My cats love them and don't mind going and in spite of the reviews saying it is too busy I have never waited more than 10 minutes. I used to volunteer for a pet rescue organization and they use them so I feel that is a pretty good recommendation. They only took their animals to the best facilities and some of them had pretty severe health issues. It is extremely clean as well. Pros: Great care for my pets Cons: A bit pricey but worth it for the care more

First timer 5/6/2009

In a scary circumstance (my dog got bit in the face), WAH made me feel that my dog was in good hands. I moved back to LA and didn't have a vet. My friend and neighbor suggested I call WAH and they scheduled in appointment for me right away. When I walked in the door the woman at the desk said, "Quinby" and they put us in a room. Dr. Dueppen examined Quinby and discussed everything with me. My brother in law came later and a staff member went over information with him again, too. Dr. Dueppen called today to follow up with Quinby. I am grateful that they were so kind and gentle to my dog. more

Dr. Schulke is the best vet I have ever been to. 11/7/2008

If you have a pet that needs special attention then it's worth the drive to see Dr. Jim Shulke. He is the most informed vet I have ever been to in a lifetime of owning animals. He specializes in cats but he was also wonderful with our dog who had Degenerative Myelopathy. He will always tell you what he would do if it was his animal and the answer isn't always surgery or more expense. The animal's well being is always his priority. The other doctors also seem very well informed and nice but I haven't had direct experience with them. The reason there is only four stars is that it's a very expensive place and the front desk (like all front desks) can be either helpful or moronic depending on the visit and who happens to be working. We don't go here for routine visits because of the drive and price but if our animals need special care I wouldn't go anywhere else. Pros: Incredibly well informed vets. Warm and caring. Cons: Expensive. more

Used to be Better 5/20/2002

This animal hospital used to be so much more than it is now. A handful of years ago I went through a rough time with a sick pet. I was consulted about everything, my options were explained thoroughly and compassion was shown every step of the way. I went through a similar situation just a few months ago and walked away from it feeling drained. Our doctor treated our old pet too aggressively without consulting us. Everything is unbelievably expensive, but in their defense, continuing education for their staff and state-of-the-art equipment is part of the price. I still take my pets here, but never fail to explicitly state my directions before leaving my pets for treatment. Pros: Great Equiptment, Continuing Education, Vaccination Clinic Cons: Crowded, Long Wait, Very Expensive more
