PROBLEMS WITH DEMENTIA, TOO 6/1/2011

My mother is at this same rehabilitation hospital and we are experiencing the same problem with the dementia. My mother's mental capacity has greatly diminished during her 3 week stay at the hospital. We were told that none of the medications she's being given would cause her to behave the way she is (speaking non stop, all day, vivid wild hallucinations, responding to circumstances she has created in her own head as if they were real, etc.). This behavior has developed quickly in a matter of weeks. The previous review mentions MS Cotin. I will research ths more online. Fortunately, we will be moving her to a new facility soon. Thank you for your review kcristnr. It helped me alot. more

AWFUL PLACE 2/10/2010

A family member was transferred to Stallworth and with it being a part of Vanderbilt we thought that is would be great! We met the Dr one time...She never returned one phone call. Social Worker was awful..never called when she was supposed to..we didn't even know if our loved on had been accepted at the new facility until a few hours before the transfer was supposed to happen. When we arrived at the new facility we found out that she had a UTI and was taking antibiotics for it (we were never informed of the infection or the medication), personnel lied to us about a new pain medication being administered.. Our loved one told us they had given her a new medication but she didn't know what it was so we called the nurses station and was told that no new medication was being given..found out the next day that she was being given MS Cotin (slow release morphine) By the time we left Stallworth (9day stay) our very intelligent very sharp loved one seemed like she was suffering from dementia! This is due to the medications that they started giving her without letting us know (oh my husband has power of attorney for medical care!) I saw a women in the hallway in a wheelchair that had defecated on herself and the floor. There was personnel at the desk in front of her and NO ONE was attending to her or cleaning up the mess! The first day that we were there I went to the hallway restroom and there was blood on the toilet seat. There was a janitor waxing a floor right outside the restroom so I informed him about the blood and he asked What you don't want to use it?"" Then yelled down the hall for someone else to come clean it. she yelled back because she couldn't hear him (yes it is a hospital) then finally came down to clean it up complaining the whole time that it was almost time for her to go home (isn't blood one of those hazardous things???) The place is awful! If you love the person DO NOT SEND them to STALLWORTH!!! Pros: not sure if there is one Cons: lack of communication, lack of attention, dirty more
