Editorial review from Citysearch 1/23/2013

My experience with VCA has been amazing from day 1! We brought our 7 month old kitty Somoa in after a botched fracture repair from another vet and Dr. Saylor at VCA recognized the problem right away and was so kind and helpful & I could tell she genuinly cared about Somoa's well being (and mine! I was such a mess!) she made sure Somoa was comfortable and got her in for surgery the next day & kept her there until she was certain she was ok. The whole staff at VCA has been SO accommodating and understanding of our situation! Two surgeries in one week is a lot for a pet owner and even more for a little cat! From the minute Dr Saylor and VCA took charge of Somoa's care she has been recovering quickly, they made sure she was and not in any pain and they were so amazing answering all my questions and concerns in the days following- i must have called 20 times!. They even helped me contact the other vet to get that issue resolved. They REALLY care about the animals they treat at VCA and I will never go anywhere else! I am so happy and appreciative of their excellent service and accommodation of my financial situation. Best clinic ever! more

South and North, there are two locations with the same name. I have been to both. While the north location is very busy and open all the time they are good for emergency care and after hour stuff. The other location down in Spanaway is smaller and more friendly. Dr. Woods is very warm and actually spends a great deal of time on my dog during her exam each time I go in. She is very informative and always follows up with a phone call just to see "How is he doing?" I love this. The staff there are caring and friendly and remember my name and my pets name everytime I come in. They give me a military discount too! After reading all the reviews it seems to me that both hospitals get clumped together in the same review. They are like apples and oranges. Both are fruit but not the same. While they are both vet offices... one is more for emergencies.. the Spanaway Pacific Avenue with Dr. Woods, I would recommend to all. Pros: null Cons: null more

Evil, Preditory, Sad 3/29/2012

VCA Pacific Animal Hospital should be investigated by Washington State for unethical business practices. With-in hours of taking our dog to them because she had been shot by a "Public Servant" VCA ordered tests and procedures we never asked for nor authorized, then charged us over $1000 extra for a dental and heartworm exam she did not need (she'd had one @ her regular vet but NO ONE from VCA bothered to call and ask us.) So we had paid $1500 upfront for emergency services, even signed up for and was approved for VCA Pet Insurance which was supposed to help cover the bill. But instead of just helping the dog which had been shot what did VCA do? Pros: null Cons: null more

CAR SALESMAN OR VET MEDICINE? 8/5/2011

I was appalled at the care we received there. The vet and I discussed a reasonable plan for my cat who has a possible urinary infection. Then he sends his pitch man (nurse) in with the estimated costs...whoa! $500 for all sorts of tests because he thinks it could be a congenital defect. Why not try a simple antibiotic first to see if that does the trick, I say? Because, he says, we MIGHT have to come back if the antibiotic doesn't work. Key word - MIGHT...so blow $500 dollars now, to avoid having to come back later. NO THANK YOU. After attempting to make me feel guilty they reluctantly agreed to my plan of an antibiotic injection and a urine culture. (By the way, they insist on a $65 ultrasound to find the bladder in order to take the sample. I'm pretty sure most vets dont do that). They took kitty for the urine sample. Brought her back in, plopped her on the table and walked out. We waited and waited thinking someone would come back in to finish up. Finally I poke my head out and more

WOW!?! Did they ever drop the ball! 3/23/2011

I've been taking my dogs to this facility before and after the change over to VCA and have been fine with the services and have always enjoyed the staff until this last visit. I am still in shock at the lack of care my dog received during a week long stay at this facility. I had left specific instructions and paid extra to have my dog's ears cleaned after three days to avoid getting infections(she has sensitive ears/allergies) the day before I am scheduled to pick her up, I get a call from the vet telling me my dog has a full blown ear infection and will need special care/cleaning and medication!.. Oh yeah, we forgot to clean her ears!?! :-( When I picked her up the next day, I was also informed by the tech staff that my dog had a LOT of blood in her stool and it might be caused by Giardia!?! So, YES, I would like a fecal exam and please inform me of the results..well, I called the next day to see if the results were back and was told it takes 48 hours to get the result back from the more

We have taken our two cats in here numerous times and are always treated great. They really care about the animals and do a great job with them. more

VCA Pacific Avenue Animal Hospital is convenient. 12/9/2009

I have always had good care for our two dogs and one cat here. They are flexable with appointments for my schedule and the animals are not scared of the doctors. more

Don't believe the angry reviews... 3/28/2009

This is an excellent hospital. They charge more than many local clinics because they offer services that others don't, and they are open from 7a-11p! I'm willing to pay extra for the level of care my dog receives there.I can't believe that a person was so shocked to see blood on the floor of a HOSPITAL! Who knows what was going on when you went back there? I've had a pet in as an emergency before. I'm sure if your pet was the emergency, you'd want the staff to focus on your pet and clean up later, after the animal was stable. It's also sad that people rate the entire hospital based on one unfortunate experience with one doctor. Each vet there is an individual, and they don't "guilt" people into services. They simply make recommendations and leave it up to the owner to decide. If a person feels guilty, that's their own fault.I will continue to use and recommend several doctors at this clinic as long as I'm in the area. more

NOPE 3/28/2009

Pacific Avenue Vet is a money driven--not care driven--facility. I realize that everyone needs to make a buck, but their prices are ridiculous.\r \r The vets push the unsolicited and unwanted vaccines. I felt harassed by the vet who kept pushing the leukemia vaccine on me. \r \r "If one of your cats get it then they'll all die" \r \r These vets should be selling life insurance with their attempted 'guilt or buy' methods. more

NEVER EVER COMING BACK 2/22/2009

VCA Pacific Avenue Animal Hospital is an awesome place to take your animals. They are great with your pets, the Vet doctor are very good at explaining about what is wrong with your pet and the step to go about it. But Today was the day I have decided to go to a different Vet. When I came in to have my dogs anal glands expressed, I was told it would cost me 26.70. Which is fine because I had my care credit with me to pay for the cost. When the Vet Tech came in to get my dog, I asked her kindly, if I am able to watch, since I would like to do it myself rather then paying 26.70 each time. When I was walked back to the Vet Tech area... there were smears of blood on the floor, table, counters and handles. Would you imagine that? I would think that, its such a nice facility, nice people, top notch Vet Dr and very pricey that you would think they would at least keep the back room clean? Imagine the surgery area.. or the kennel area... It was very disappointing to me and disgusting to me that more

Not what they used to be 10/15/2008

I used to take all of my pets there. The vets were all good, very compassionate and caring and I was often able to work out payment plans with them. They went corporate and for a few years they were still great, but then something changed. All the vets I liked seem to have disappeared one by one; I could never get the same vet twice; and the attitudes of the replacements were less than professional or caring. I eventually realized that there was no solution but to change vets. I stll miss them, but I also know that what and who I miss is no longer there. more

Excellent quality of care, 2 wonderful doctors... 1/29/2008

The quality of care practiced at this clinic is one of, if not the best in town. It is truly the place to take your pet that you want the very best for. The gentlemen doctors are kind, understanding and skilled. Some of the women doctors are a little pushy, but practice good medicine. Since this clinic employs so many doctors, most people are able to find one they like and relate to.\r \r The hours are perfect for those who work days, and they do surgery 6 or 7 mornings a week, so there's plenty of options to fit any schedule.\r \r Anything from routine vaccines, to skin conditions, spays and neuters, endoscopy, ultrasound and fracture repair is done here with care, compassion and skill. I'd recommend it to anyone who truly wants the best for their pet. more

Outstanding care. 3/1/2007

I have taken all my pets here for the last 7 years. Care has always been very good. Vets personality sometimes is a issue. They are always willing to work with me regarding the care. I love the hours and the fact that if my animal in there really sick I can stay with them as long as I need to. They are more expensive that other vets in the area but you get want you pay for. more

Okay but definitely not one of the best 11/15/2005

We took our little dogs in for their shots. The vet pushed wormer at us and rolled her eyes when we didnt buy her flea meds (at twice the price we normally pay). Their hours are excellent and they seem to give good care just seem a bit money driven more than they should be. more

Decent vet, high costs 11/9/2005

We went there on a referral from a friend and will not return. The care was good and I was impressed when my babies got their nails trimmed but balked at the total bill when leaving. $146 for shots is a bit excessive. The vet was a bit snippy when we declined her *recommended* services. more

I take my two cats here 9/30/2005

I like this place because it is convient and has great hours of operation. The hospital is always clean and I have had good service from the office staff. The animal nurses have always been gentle with my animals and seem to care about them. They try to sooth my animals along with me when we have had to go in. They are kind of pricey though. PROS: Clean CONS: Expensive more

Too expensive and formal! 9/30/2005

I actually used to work here, and used them after I quit, but in my experience this office is too stuffy. Sometimes you get good service and sometimes you don't, but either way, they are corporate, and much too pricey! They also seem to have a problem keeping regular staff. It's too bad because it is a very nice and clean hospital. I do think the hours are a plus though. They have emergency capabilities and hours that most hospitals do not. For emergencies I would suggest them because they are much less expensive than the Animal Emergeny Clinic on Durango. PROS: Hours and cleanliness CONS: Bad service and too pricey! Corporatized Animal Care! more

Bad experience 6/28/2005

I took my cat here a few months ago when he was very ill. Unfortunatly he passed away in the vets care. He was very ill and they staff didnt bother to look at him for almost an hour, then after telling me that he had died on their table they plopped my family pet there in front of me and told me that if i didnt pay another 200 bucks they could not dispose of him properly. I then carried my dead cat out to my car and burried him myself. Then a bill came in the amount of 460.00.. Never again. more

Not Recommended 6/6/2005

I have been here several times and never really had good experiences, I always held out trying to be optimistic, however when my small cat had some serious issues I came here for the last time. They are truly one of the more expensive animal hospitals I have been to, the staff always seem a bit overwhelmed. The doctors give you that feeling that the caring just is not very great. PROS: 0 CONS: Expensive, uncaring doctors :o( more
