True animal lover 8/3/2011

Dr. Kim is one of the most caring vets our two kitties have ever met; she will spend half an hour on the phone with you interpreting your "baby's" blood work (from the lab) and it's obvious that she loves all animals as if they were members of her own family....she is a true animal lover and takes her time, going into great detail, about how you can keep your animals healthy with preventive care; and if there is already a health issue, she will spend extra time with you, giving all options that are in their best interest; she's their best advocate....i wish HUMAN doctors were this enthusiastic and devoted to helping their patients, ha ha more

You can't get any better 7/25/2011

You can't get any better than Dr.Melcon and everyone at the Marina Pet hospital. I get teary eyed with emotion writing how great they are all there. I have been dog walking for 14 years now and I have seen some pretty pathetic vetinary care with so many critical wrong diagnosis but have never had a mis diagnosis by Dr. Melcon. She puts the pets first and not the person or money. I almost think she is psychic (just kidding) with how right she is all the time and just by hearing the symptons taking a quick look and knowing what to do. If she can not figure it out she has no ego and will send you to Davis or somewhere else. She will consult other vetninary clinics if she has to. She wants to just help the dog. She is supposed to work on some days only to 4pm but I have known her to stay until midnight with some of my client's dogs and she lives in Peteluma with four kids and husband. She works four days a week but has the other doctors on the other days call her at home on her day off. She gave me her home number when my dog was gravely ill with cancer. She talked me through the entire process and at that time he was going to Davis. She called Davis without me knowing to check in on his progress. She goes above and beyond the call of duty over and over for her pets she cares for. And she is GOOD at what she does as a doctor. more

They are sensitive 7/21/2011

I've been taking my rescue lab here for about 5 years. I love the vets and the front room staff. They are sensitive to financial issues, send reminders about vaccinations, prescribe over the phone without a visit. more

Do things right 7/19/2011

I'm a former client, so this is probably more brutally honest than most reviews. I had to switch after taking my cat here for ten years when I moved too far away. The care you get here is the gold standard, but you pay for it. They run a lot of tests and do everything very thoroughly, and so you end up paying quite a bit for all of that. In my case, I was getting my cat's teeth cleaned every year for ten years here and paying a small fortune every time. However, my cat developed a heart murmur and teeth cleanings became too dangerous to undertake. They caught the murmur and advised to skip the first teeth cleaning. It's too dangerous to put a cat out to do a full teeth cleaning when the cat develops a heart murmur. Two years after the last cleaning, I brought the cat in for an exam to the new vet. The new vet RAVED about how well my cat's teeth looked and RAVED about how thorough the blood tests had been at Marina Pet Hospital. Here I am, stuck in a situation where full teeth cleanings are now all but out of the question, and so it was only the fact that everything had been done right at MPH that is keeping my cat's teeth in his mouth right now. Otherwise, I'd be looking at a very dangerous extraction. I can't say I was happy with the bill at MPH, but when you get stuck into a situation where it becomes too dangerous to do a full teeth cleaning, you are lucky when the prior ones were done right. They do things right here, and it's expensive to do. But they probably saved me a fortune on the back end, so it probably all evened out. more

I feel comfortable knowing my pet has a reputable and knowledgeable veterinarian 7/15/2011

I have taken my dog to Dr. Melcon for eighteen months. My first encounters with her were when she attended to his medical needs after being attacked by another dog. She immediately noticed the medication given to me by the ER was unsafe to manage my (breed of) dog's pain. She carefully listened to my concerns and offered advice as to follow up care. He is now healed and re-socialized with other dogs after having been "quarantined" for weeks following the injury to avoid infection. The insurance plan is great. I signed up upon my first visit. The plan had paid for itself within three visits (made within a month of first visit to follow up on his injury). I feel comfortable knowing my pet has a reputable and knowledgeable veterinarian, and will continue to take him to Dr. Melcon as long as I live in San Francisco. more

I found the entire staff, front desk, vet techs, and vets to be nice caring animal lovers 5/31/2011

Dr. Melcon can be blunt, but she is a great doctor who really truly cares about the pets. I had one short visit with Dr. Kim and she was wonderful as well. My vet bill for 4 nights of hospitalization was so reasonable - if your pet has a chronic illness get the insurance, I more than made the money back within the first two visits. I understand why some people might give this place a low rating, your pet (a.k.a. your baby) is sick, they can't tell you what hurts, you're frustrated, and then you have to pay a vet bill?? But vet care isn't free and this place is more than reasonable. Bottom line, after 5 days in a row there and 4 days in the back room visiting my cat, I found the entire staff, front desk, vet techs, and vets to be nice caring animal lovers willing to do whatever they could for me and my darling cat Angel. more

Friendly and helpful 5/25/2011

My husband and I just moved to San Francisco from Washington, DC with our dog Sampson. Sampson needed a bortadella shot in order for us to start taking him to doggie daycare. I founded Marina Pets through a quick google search and gave it a dry. We were very impressed! The receptionists were friendly and helpful and got us an appointment for later that day. Prices are good - $63 for the first time visit plus $18 for the bortadella shot. When we arrived at the clinic, we were seen right away. Dr. Kim had a great bedside manner - Sampson loved her and was very calm. She answered all our questions and gave great advice. We couldn't have had a better visit. She's definitely going to become our regular vet! more

Great quality of care 5/11/2011

Great place with very knowlegeable and friendly people. My 2-month-old puppy was completely calm and relaxed the whole time, even when she was getting a shot, and I credit the vet's friendly and calming demeanor. It's also easy to get an appointment (I got my puppy on Sunday and had an appointment for her shots on Monday) and the health coverage that the hospital offers is comprehensive and relatively inexpensive. All around good experience and great quality of care. more

A+ service 4/13/2011

It surprises me to see anything less than 5 starts for both the DVMs and the office techs and staff. i have been goign to Marina Pet Hospital for years with my animals and have never received anything other than complete A+ service, kindness, compassion, and professionalism. they know me when i call, they know my kitty, and they get me in immediately whenever i have any health concerns. it can be pricey and people sometimes complain about the inhouse insurance, but it is a lifesaver. people have insurance and so should your furry family members. all the DVMs are incredbile and i would not go anywhere else! more

Dr. Melcon was there for us and gave me so much comfor 4/11/2011

I had to have my almost 16 year old cat euthanized this morning. He had cancer and was not responding to chemo. Dr. Melcon was there for us and gave me so much comfort in her blunt, kind way ... she seemed to know exactly what to say to me. She loves animals (she has an entire menagerie herself), and has a tremendous amount of experience treating them. She's the best. (Oh, and by the way, Harley (the cat) had diarrhea all over me in the waiting room (poor little guy), and the staff immediately and graciously not only helped me clean him up, but also gave me some scrub pants to change into so I didn't have to sit there in fouled attire. Totally helpful.) more
