Way to overpriced and service was terrible. I waited over half an hour for my food to come to the table. more

Dont be dazzled by the show. I have 5/30/2012

Dont be dazzled by the show. I have seen and know for a fact that it is common practice to resale food not eaten by big parties. If a banquet has large plates of appetizers that are not fully eaten they will take the cold, picked through, leftover food and replate it for guests in the restaurant. Making money twice on the already over priced food. The server will always say, "" Valter(the maitra d) made this special for you"", and then you will see a $29 appetizer charge on your bill. This is just one of the countless things my friend that works there told me. Also, if you are there and have been told that they are ""preparing something special for you tonight"", this only means that you look like you have money and that your bill is now going to be bigger than anyone sitting around you. And if you dont look rich, plan on sitting on someones lap, next to the bathroom. They will charge you extra if you look like you can afford it. Taking a regular menu item, adding one ingrediant, and then doubling the price. After hearing about the way they take advantage of customers, I wont be able to eat there again. more

very disappointing dinner after dropping $230 8/7/2011

I find it very hard to believe that this restaurant has received as many awards as it has. The atmosphere is so loud you can hardly talk to the person across the table without leaning forward and raising your voice. I had the vegetable risotto in a light tomato sauce which was watery and without any flavor whatsoever. My husband had the salmon, scallop, and shrimp dinner which was excellent. My sons had the calamari steak.. One was delicious and the other was very chewy and difficult to eat. For the prices they charge, everything should have been fabulous. On the other hand, the server, Anthony, was superb. I could not have been more disappointed and will never go there again. more

Outstanding 4/6/2011

This restaurant would shine in any major city in the world for its food / service / atmosphere and the people who run it. Valter the proprietor is the most gracious host / owner there is. The food here is beyond words. The perfect place for a romantic evening or your corporate dinner. Wyatt a server that I usually ask for is fantastic and also could work in any high end fine dining restaurant in the world. You would be crazy not to go here. more

Simply, the best Italian in Utah 10/15/2010

I dined several times at Cucina Toscana and it has always been a terrific experience. I am Italian-born myself, so I know how food should be cooked and served, and Cucina Toscana offers greatly prepared dishes that are hard to find even in ""trattorie"" in Italy. Cucina Toscana is at its best in main dishes (try the ossobuco!), but they also do an excellent job with their home-made pasta. If you happen to be there I strongly recommend the Ravioli with asparagus. The only con is that there might be some waiting time before seating (~15 mins), especially during weekend, but the food is definitely worth the waiting time! In one sentence, no other Italian in SLC can even be comparable to the fine dining at Cucina Toscana. more

Best in SLC 1/2/2010

I have eaten here over a dozen times - with parties from two people to twenty. Consistently a great experience and always made to feel welcome. For SLC, the prices are sporty so if you are cheap, you may want to eat at Macaroni Grill. Pros: Food, wine selection, service more

Wow!!! 8/29/2009

Great service, atmosphere, food, and wine list. Spoil yourself at Cucina Toscana Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Wonderful Evening! 1/24/2009

Staff was wonderful and helpful in seating myself and my family in a very quiet area in the back of the restaurant. Our server was very helpful in recommending some very tasty dishes...from appetizers all the way through desserts. All of the food was amazing! We had a wonderful time! Pros: Food, service Cons: Close proximity between tables, can be noisy more

Great food, questionable service. 1/19/2009

I was put on hold twice without being asked if it was OK. We were seated at a terrible table. Tables near aisles and noisy areas should be used for larger parties; some consideration should be shown for parties of two. Our server was so uptight I wanted to give him a valium. Staff standing around amongst the tables is very annoying. Worst of all was being asked twice by a manager if the food and the service were OK. He made it sound as if he was expecting a problem. We watched the owner flit from ""VIP"" to ""VIP"" while ignoring the rest of his guests. It made us feel really loved.\r Aside from all of this the food was excellent.\r Pros: Great food Cons: Amateur service more

Fabulous - period. 11/12/2008

I've dined here a few times, and every time I am more impressed. This restaurant not only tastes like authentic Italian food it FEELS like authentic Italian food. Lots of energy, lots of courses, a different menu all the time, and the owner/chef waltzing amongst the tables giving loud praises, hugs, and lavishing authentic hot chocolate on guests that he seems to recognize.\r \r Pros: Everything was delicious. Cons: Tough to get a table. more

Best Italian food in SLC 9/26/2008

This place is consistently great. The food is prepared to perfection and the service is very good. It is loud, not very romantic but a great place to go with friends to celebrate. Salt Lake City is unfortunately not known for its eateries, but this place would survive in any city and would compete well in San Francisco or NYC. more

Fantastic Italian 7/10/2008

Great Italian. Fantastic atmosphere. If you ever get to meet the owner, he is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. There is no Italian like this in Salt Lake. I highly recommend this place. Pros: Incredible Food Cons: Long time to wait more

Food good, but not great. Service terrible, unless you are the owner's Pisan. 6/30/2008

The only positive I can give is that they kept my water glass filled.\r Pretty decor true. Food was good, yes, but not great, and especially not at the price you are paying for it. Small portions as well.\r This is the kind of place that easily impresses people that are wowed by a noisy chaotic atmosphere and snooty toffs.\r They screwed up our reservation, sat us right next to the kitchen as punishment for their mistake, and screwed up our special dessert order that we requested days before, without apology.\r We were very, very unhappy when we left, and felt sorry for the people waiting to get in.\r \r Pros: Nice decor Cons: Noisy! What is with those industrial throw rugs? Slow service. more

Eat at Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano Instead!!! 6/30/2008

I called a week ahead for reservations. Asked if they were able to make a birthday cake for us. They said yes, the bakery next door would do that. We knew things weren't starting well when they had written down 13 instead of 3 for the reservation. They were not happy to tear apart the tables. We were given a table in the busiest area in front of the kitchen. Well, it was noisy, extremely hot, the food was so-so (worst Caesar salad ever!) and over priced. We were greeted with blank stares when they asked if we wanted dessert and we asked for our cake. 30 minutes and a few ""we're getting the cake ready"" later we were served 3 slices of the menu cake with no explanation!!! Had we known we weren't getting ""our"" cake we would have left without dessert. Still no apologies or explanations, but lots of waiters and the owner running around attending ""important"" customers. Obviously you need to know the owner to be treated decently. It would have been nice if some kind of customer service was apparent. A simple ""We are so sorry about the mix-up but we don't have your cake. Would you care to order from the dessert menu for complimentary desserts?"" A good restaurant would have been up front about things instead of trying to cover up an obvious mistake. We are never going back and will tell everyone we know NOT to waste their time and money, but to go to Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano at the Gateway instead. Now THIS is an elegant restaurant with excellent food, a great staff, and believe it or not you can have a conversation without shouting or dying of heat stroke. more

The best italian restaurant on the west coast!!! 5/7/2008

I recently moved from NYC to Salt Lake and I was invited to partake in a sampling at Cucina Toscana and was blown away from the moment I stepped in the door. The restaurant is somewhat of a ""hole in the wall"" restaurant and you are surrounded by beautiful decor, plants and accommodating staff. Justin, the manager was very pleasant and catered to our every need and consistently checked in to see how everything was. I have never seen such service. We ordered the Caesar salad, which is prepared at your table with tons of fresh ingredients. I was at first weary about the anchovies, but the waiter assured me I would love it and I wouldn't be able to even taste any fish. He was right! There was no fish after taste and everything blended perfectly. Next was their pasta sampling which was an experience in it's own. The handmade ravioli was to die for and the gnocchi in tomato sauce was a delight. Both pastas were perfectly matched with tasty sauces that complimented them. Next was the main dish - chicken saltimbocca. Never have so many ingredients tasted so good. The chicken was prepared perfectly and the side potatoes were delicous with the sauce. The sauce was different in that it had a lemon after taste. I hate lemon, but enjoyed this explosion of flavor in my mouth. To end the meal we had fresh made tiramisu. It was like eating air, it was so rich and fluffy. I never have liked Tiramisu, but after eating theirs, I wanted more! I don't drink coffee, but my husband said it was the best he's ever had.\r Go to Cucina Toscana, you will love the environment and enjoy the food. I have told everyone at work, home and across the states about my experience and I hope you will go their too. Let's keep this restaurant alive forever so we may experience NYC food in the heart of Utah! Pros: The best meal I have had! Cons: NOTHING!!! more

Not Worth the Wait 3/22/2008

I went to Cucina Toscana as part of a group of six. Our reservation was for 8:00pm, but they kept us waiting until 9:00 before seating us. It wouldn't have been so bad if they had a bar where we could sit, but we had to stand in the crowded lobby (obviously we weren't the only ones kept waiting) by the front door when it was snowing outside. After about 45 minutes they brought us some mineral water and a plate of bruschetta (which comes free on the table), but it didn't really make up for the wait. We'd been skiing during the day and were starving by the time we did get seated. The menu is strange too: the dishes are scattered all over the place. There were about six different versions of veal scallopini, each in a separate part of the menu. It makes me think the disorganization isn't just limited to the reservations. I don't know how this place wins awards for being the best restaurant in SLC. more

Best Fine Dining Experience In Town 2/3/2008

Best Food \r Best Wines list \r Great Service (the real fine dining service)\r \r Recommed to close the menu and tell the server to do the testing menu is the way to go.\r \r Must try The handmade pasta \r Ravioli and Gnocci The Best !\r more

Atrocious service, uneven food 1/23/2008

My fiance unfortunately took me here for my thirtieth birthday. Firstly the hostess tried to imply that we didn't have a reservation and we had to point out that our name was in the reservation book in front of her. Then we had to wait 35 minutes after the time of our reservation to get seated without an apology. The closest we got was ""We're very busy tonight"". While the server, Ty, was nice enough, we felt rushed, he seemed to be running back and forth between too many tables and he did not follow up when we made less than stellar remarks about the food. My starter -- a salad with tuna, scallops and octopus -- lacked the octopus and was so sour that it was difficult to eat. It was an interesting dish, but not a very successful one. My main dish was a fettuccine with a porcini and meat sauce, and while the hand made fettuccine was excellent, I've had better sauces at chain restaurants. The sauce was excessively watery and tasteless. Overall, this restaurant was too noisy to talk and too frenetic too enjoy one's meal. Pros: Certain dishes seem to be excellent and the quality of the handmade pasta is excellent Cons: Service is atrocious, waiting times w/ reservation are too long, and some dishes are poor more
