The BEST tattoo shop around by far! 10/15/2010

I will start out by saying...awesome! I have gone to a few places for ink in the past and while they are ok, I never had a kick ass tattoo that I was happy with until today. And I have had a few bad times while getting tattoos. I spoke to Maya before going there just so she could get an idea what I was looking for. I am a total nut and I was all over the place with my ideas. She was a total pro and helped me out so much. She really took the time to help because she is a pro and wants the client to be happy. And that is no b.s. I found the place real easy and it was very clean. Some shops make you feel like you are getting a prison tattoo. Not here. It was real relaxed and no pressure. The artists are all real friendly and I just had a great time. Then on top of that I got a great tattoo by a real artist. I sound like I am gushing but its because I am really happy with the who experience. I HIGHLY recommend Third Eye Tattoo. And trust me I am going there for all my future work. You won't be sorry, go there. more

Major kick-ass and worth travelling to! 10/7/2010

Maya gave me my first tattoo about a million years ago (okay, actually it's more like going on 18 years now) and even as a young sapling ;-), did amazing work. I've continued to follow her work over the years, even though I've since relocated from Brooklyn to Portland, Oregon. When I found out several years ago that she'd opened her own shop, I was absolutely stoked about it, and made sure to bring extra cash on one of my trips back so I could get my next tattoo done. It only seemed right that I should go to Third Eye to get my second tattoo, since Maya had done my first. Unfortunately, being a walk-in, Maya wasn't available to do the work, but I felt completely in good hands at the shop and was willing to let one of the other artists do the work. It's been 6 years now since that day, and I don't remember the name of the guy who did my tattoo, but I can say without a doubt that as I sit here today and write this, my tattoo STILL looks absolutely GREAT and has ""aged"" well. I get compliments on it all the time, and people are often surprised to learn that I've had it for as long as I have. When I first walked into the shop, the first thing I noticed was how clean and professional it was. I was actually VERY impressed. I'd been in other shops in and around NY, and Portland as well, and Third Eye is still the nicest shop I've been in. It's a great atmosphere, the staff is very professional but laid back, and what I really appreciated was that none of it was intimidating the way some shops can really be. I've walked into shops since then to inquire about having work done, and have often felt a weird aura of disdain towards me because I definitely look more ""mainstream"" on the surface. Or, the places have just seemed unkempt, and that's just NOT something I'm willing to take a chance with. I've had two tattoos done since getting my second tattoo at Third Eye; the other two, I had done at a small shop in Seattle. BAD IDEA. They suck complete and total ASS. Needless to say, I'll be getting them repaired at Third Eye. Lesson learned, I should have just stuck with my gut and held out for my next trip back to Brooklyn. I'm planning a trip hopefully in the next month or so, and will ABSOLUTELY be getting work done at Third Eye when I go. It's worth the wait for me, worth the trip, and is the only place I'd trust to have myself permanently altered in such a deeply personal way. more

Third Eye Tattoo 10/6/2010

I have had beautiful experiences at Third Eye and got all my tattoos there. Had my first tats and piercings from Maya over 15 years ago and they still look fresh. Since then I also have gotten ink from Lou and Brian too. I have never seen more happy clients than I have in this shop. And believe me when I say... Third Eye is sterile sterile sterile! It is a friendly, easy place with great artists... you just have to book ahead because they get so busy. While you can get lucky with the occasional walk-in, but do not count on it at the last minute. I do want to mention that Maya has the lightest touch ever. A real blessing when you're bleeding (or just sniveling a bit.. .... lol..). more

Changed my life! 10/6/2010

Got my first tattoo here about 4-5 years ago. A one time deal evolved into the most beautiful sleeve, an amazing back piece between the shoulders, and a host of the most beautiful work ever to be seen. I have been tattooed by Lou and Maya and both are amazing artists and wonderful people. Their ideas never fail to impress the hell out of me and I am proud to wear their work. Although I have not had work done by Bryan, one look at his portfolio will tell you that he is incredible!!!! Hopefully one day... :). I have moved away from the area and have not been back in a bit, but I cannot wait to get more work from the folks that instilled a self confidence in me that I had never had before. Love and miss you guys!! more

Hidden gem in the Slope 9/19/2010

OK, first off: it's hard to find (right off 5th on Union, but in the basement of Park Slope Eye with very little signs), and it's not much to look at, clean sterile and white, with some new age music playing. I felt like I was taking my girl in for an abortion! So sure, I was a bit wary... that is until I met the friendly, easy going staff and artists. Walk-in wasn't possible that day, but I made an appointment with Lou and he gave me the phoenix tattoo on my back I always wanted! Beautiful work, and can't wait for another. The pricing is fair for good ink that would prolly cost 3X as much in the city. more

An exceptional place to get the greatest body art 8/12/2010

The Shop: Third Eye Tattoo feels like a dentist's office, except MUCH cleaner and MUCH more sanitary. The floors are spotless, the lighting exceptional, and the counters neat and clean. Each artist has their own room, with separate equipment and cabinets. Organization is very well laid out, and everything is in it's place. Getting started: CLEANLINESS is the name of the game. I was a little worried when I first sat in the chair the week after, to get my tattoo started. It was my first tattoo experience, so I was nervously watching every move Brian was making. But my fears were put to rest when I saw how he operated. The room is spotless. He washed his hands before he touched anything sterile, something he repeated continuously throughout the session. New gloves were used every time he left the room and came back (used about 5 pairs of gloves that I counted, each pair disposed properly). The razor and needles came from locked cabinets, and everything was in sterile packaging, which Brian opened in front of my eyes. I haven't seen such exceptionally hygienic practices even in doctor's offices. He used new inkwells for each ink, and any remaining ink was properly disposed in the room's sink. New ink was used every time he needed to change inks. I also saw him put the machines together, and insert the new sterile needles in them. In summary, everything was done as it should be, and Brian takes safety very seriously. The artist: Brian KNOWS his trade by heart. He is extremely knowledgeable about the art of tattooing, and TREMENDOUSLY talented at what he does, Before and during the session he patiently and thoroughly answered every single question I had, always with a smile. I asked a lot of questions, and he answered them all. He gave me a detailed account of how the modern tattooing machine came around, and described several other alternative methods used throughout the world, and this was just because I asked him. I really liked the fact that he knew so much and shared it with me. I can't say enough about his dedication to the work he did on me. He got so much into it, that from the originally planned three hours, the tattoo session lasted for almost six. His attention to detail is IMPECCABLE and he works the tattoo gun like magic. He never rushed, and took his time to get every little detail PERFECT. Throughout the session, he kept noticing additional things which could be tweaked to make the piece stand out even more, and these little changes made the piece stand out in an AMAZING MANNER. He worked the shading like a magician. I don't know what else to say....I could not have been more pleased with everything. He is the man! The final piece: The final product looked so awesome, I just about asked him to sign it. A true masterpiece on my upper arm, and I could tell Brian was very very pleased with his work as well. I LOVE my new tattoo. Brian took the time to painstakingly describe to me the aftercare procedures, and made sure I understood everything clearly. He was also available promptly on the telephone when I had a question about aftercare. I could not have asked for a better tattoo artist, and felt that I got much more than my money's worth at Third Eye. Would recommend the shop to anyone in a heartbeat. more

the best! 6/17/2010

I just got my first tattoo from Brian at Third Eye and it was a really great experience; he was calm and professional, and the manager was great at putting my mind at ease making jokes while I was filling out the paperwork. My tattoo wasn't what I had in mind; it's waaay better! Pros: great atmosphere, great people, great art more

Beautiful tattoos! 11/24/2009

I love the tattoos I've gotten here. I've been tattooed by Maya, Brian and Lou and I'm thrilled with everything I've gotten there. I've also been pierced by Maya and she's really great, so gentle, considering I had a needle stuck in me at the time! Pros: Amazing artists! more

Amazing tattoo artists 11/22/2009

I've been getting my work from this shop for over a decade and my tattoos still look just as good now as they did the day I got them. The shop is clean, the artists are all very talented and professional. I really love the work I got from Maya, Paul and JoAnn and I'm planning to get one from Brian soon. My only recommendation is to call a couple of weeks ahead, sometimes these guys are hard to get an appointment with, but it's well worth the wait! Pros: Great work, clean shop, friendly staff Cons: Can take a little while to get an app't more

Great local artist 11/20/2009

The best place for body art!! 11/16/2009

This is a great place to get work done! The work the artists do is unbelievable! The colors are bright and vivid. Give them an idea and they will sketch it out and literally bring it to life! I have been getting inked by Maya since 1996 and trust me, I still get compliments on tats that are over 10 yrs old! I would not hesitate to recommend her or any of the other artists. Pros: tattoos that are amazing!! Cons: there are none more

Tattoo Cover Up Review 8/9/2009

I went to Brian Wren to have an old tattoo covered up. The experience could not have been any more professional from the consultation period through to the end product. Pros: The whole experience more

Killer Ink! 6/21/2009

I went to check out Third Eye, thumbed through the portfolios and decided to work with Brian Wren. His skill is outstanding - My tattoos turned out perfect. Brian is a true professional. I highly recommend this shop. Pros: Professional, friendly, affordable and clean more

High quality work in a comfortable atmosphere 4/1/2009

I had some scarring and burned skin on my abdomen that I wanted to cover up. I had a vague idea that some branches with cherry blossoms would look nice. I went in one day and spoke with tattoo artist Brian Wren, who looked at my scars, listened to my ideas, and took a picture of my tummy. I made an appointment for a couple of weeks later, and when I showed up Brian had made a preliminary drawing on a copy of the photo he had taken, which I liked. The actual final product, however, is so much better! The level of detail, color, shading, etc. is phenomenal. My scars are completely camouflaged, and I've now got a beautiful piece of body art. By the way, I'm a middle-aged woman, and I felt completely comfortable and at ease in this very clean, laid-back environment. Highly recommended! Pros: Clean, comfortable, laid-back environment Cons: Okay, tattoos do hurt! more

No complaints at all... 8/29/2008

First of all, I'm not a ""hard core"" tattoo guy. I just wanted a pair of diamond shears (a tool used in glassblowing) on my inside forearm. A friend (with LOTS of ink) recommended this place and since I live in the Slope I stopped in. They had lot's of books and I really liked the grey-scale work of a guy named Luis (or was it ""Louis""?). He was in so we talked and set up an appointment. Since it really is my only real tattoo, I can't say if it was a great value, but the place is nice, everyone seems professional but laid-back at the same time. Now it's almost three years later and the tattoo still looks great. The lines are still sharp, the shading is still perfect. Maybe it's time for something on the other arm... Pros: The tattoo came out exactly as I envisioned it...and it still looks great (3yrs later) Cons: Tattoos hurt! (...actually, I kind of liked the pain) more

Great laid-back experience 7/29/2008

Just wanted to add a couple letters to a black wrist tattoo, found these guys on here (good location for me). Spoke with them a few times on the phone first, and they were always helpful and polite. I went in on a Thursday to find a font I liked. They had a good selection of books to choose from. I met the artist I'd be working with, Brian, and he helped me with the layout of the lettering. I made an appointment for Saturday so my girlfriend could come with me. Brian was friendly and explained everything really well. The shop looks clean. I'm very happy with the result and got it for a great price. Pros: good music, good price, friendly personnel more
