Excellent lunch, dinner, brunch. Breakfast was iffy 3/5/2012

I have thoroughly enjoyed Wild Grape many many times for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Incredibly fresh food. Amazing soups, all year round. Great service too. however, i was mildly dissapointed with a recent breakfast stop. i was excited they opened for weekday breakfast because it's close to my work. Stopped in one morning, the restaurant was freezing cold, as if no one had been there for opening duties. And, there was one server for the entire restaurant so without being his fault, service was very slow. On weekdays, people are often in a hurry. It felt as though breakfast opening was an after-thought. Other than that, I truly love this place for the other meals of the day. more

LOVE the Wild Grape 5/3/2011

The Wild Grape is fantastic with a refreshing menu. Great waitstaff as well, my personal favorite is Eric- what a top server! The lunch menu is so delicious- the salads are light but still filling and the portobello sandwich is to die for! I would recommend any of the soups. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because I am quite the huevos rancheros connoisseur and was disappointed that Wild Grape served fried tortillas- FRIED?! But everything else is divine. Excellent wine menu as well. more

I love this place :) 4/15/2011

this is one of my favorite places to go to in SLC. I love the atmosphere and the food is well worth the price. delicious, good music on the weekends, great small plates. very lovely service, waiters very knowledgeable. All natural organic food.. grass fed beef. well worth spending some money on. if you are looking for an intimate night out, this is the place to go to :) more

Great Service and food was okay 1/4/2011

I went to the Wild Grape with some friends through the holidays and I thought the food was good and service was outstanding. We were greeted imediately with a friendly smile by our server. She was very professional, read us the specials with enthusiasm and her attitude was nothing but positive. We received our food in appropiate time; not too fast or too slow. The food was good but not great however my friends loved their dinners. I will definetly return soon. more

Delicious and lovely 10/5/2010

I love this restaurant for so many reasons- but number one being that my husband and I had our first date here! What a fantastic place! more

Itsy Bitsy.....and iffy... 9/27/2010

PROS: Ambiance, Service, Wine List, Local Organics CONS: Food lacked flavor, Undercooked, Overcooked, Bland. Will have to give this one another try, .... Brunch with family this past summer. Service was absolutely magnificent, but food lacked flavor and there was nothing special. Hubby had the Huevos Rancheros- he liked the concept of the dish and it appealed to him due to it's non-traditional presentation, unfortunately it was really bland and not much packed a punch other than a bit of the Queso Fresca. I had the Egg n' Cheese sandwich and so did my other daughter...it was ok...but unfortunately we both got sick...and I mean sick...did not sit well in the tummy, which is probably why I have not gone back...but....will give a second try as my youngest had the Brioche French Toast and that was tasty...not excellent...but tasty. So instead of Brunch we will definitely try dinner...except this time only the hubby and I will go. I will agree with other reviews, it is a bit pricey (which I do not mind paying for as it is guaranteed FRESH ORGANICS), but I was a bit disappointed especially because it was ""local fresh organics"" yet when cooked it tasted bland? I grow my own veggies and herbs and when I cook they come through, which is why I was really happy to try The Wild Grape! Who likes to cook everyday! LOL! Look... I love FOOD and yes SLC is IMPROVING in culinary expertise and wonderful restaurants are THANKFULLY popping up left and right. But this is my HONEST opinion...the food that day was really bland and it needs to be embraced and tasted, especially if wonderful organics are the main event of the menu! :) PS a note the owner....its cool that you are replying to these reviews and hope that you take them into consideration and continue to improve your restaurant, but do not throw out rewards or your chef expertise or you that you are working with news channel programs back to the customer. That's a no...no...rewards, plaques, are just that...if you have bad reviews and unhappy customers...then they just become plaques and empty rewards and completely meaningless if you cannot retain happy customer satisfaction. more

A dissapointing experience all around 5/13/2010

My experience at The Wild Grape can be summed up in a few words: flavorless, terrible service, and overpriced. Originally, I was thrilled when The Wild Grape opened up in the space vacated by the Avenues Bakery. I was hoping for a new brunch spot to spend my Sunday mornings in. This was not destined to be that place. I've tried it twice now and both experiences were lackluster and disappointing. The service was indifferent at best: with only a quarter of the tables occupied and several servers hanging around the counter it still took 20 minutes to wave someone down to take our order. Nothing like sipping water for 20 minutes when you're jonesing for breakfast. The food was also a disappointment. Runny eggs-over-hard, flavorless bacon, coffee with that burned starbucks taste, the potatoes were just unpleasant, and while the biscuits were pleasantly fluffy the gravy was akin to elmer's glue. For the menu price I expected a much better meal. Pros: nice decor Cons: pricey for the portion and quality, slow service more

Wild about the Wild Grape 12/14/2009

We love the Wild Grape and think that it is one of the best resturants in Salt Lake City. We have dined at the WG about once a month since they opened. We particularly like the daily soup, only once were we disappointed.\r \r The lamb and fish entrees are excellent. Recently the oven baked halibut was superb as was the Morgan Valley Sugo. Our son, who loves the lamb burger, thoroughly enjoyed the bison burger.\r \r The Pt. Reyes Blue cheescake with fennel and apple slaw and pommegranite syrup was outstanding. It was so good we came back again for lunch to have another slice.\r \r The WG is expensive, but other resturants of similar quality, Frank's, Martines, etc are also pricey. We congratulate the WG on their first anniversary and hope to dine at the WG for years to come. Bon appetit! Pros: Great food especially the daily soups, love the lamb Cons: A bit pricey more

Money Well Spent, Best food Salt Lake 12/13/2009

Family x-mas get together\r When my brother and wife arrived the only thing they could talk about was going back to the Wild Grape for dinner. The food is unique and out of this world. Simple, understandable and approachable. Why don't others follow their lead. I am vegan and was happy to find the Acorn stew served in the acorn to be right up my alley. Others were meat lovers. Bison ribeye was the feature and my son got that and said it was great! My husband had the halibut and said it was one of the best dishes he has had in a long time. My brother had the short rib and said it was to die for and his wife had the rotisserie chicken with stuffing that she also raved about.\r It's no wonder why this restaurant is doing so well. I looked around and everyone appeared to be having such a good time.\r Highly recommend this restaurant to all.\r Pros: Made from scratch food, Service, Best Wine List, Wine Wed Cons: A little noisy on the weekend more

A Good Place... to Avoid 12/13/2009

My husband and I arrived desiring a relaxing evening with well-prepared food. For the second time in 3 months, we were seated but a server never showed up. We were about to leave when the management offered profuse apologies and a lovely server named Dax appeared. We ordered a salad, soup and the roasted chicken dinner, and never in my SLC dining experience did we have worse food in a restaurant. The salad was fresh and OK, bit the ""pickled"" grapes are merely grapes - nothing unusual. My butternut squash soup had a distinct Indian flavor (possibly cumin) which I wasn't prepared for, and it did not go well with the squash. My husband's chicken was flavorless and unseasoned, and it was accompanied by cranberries that were unusually sour and a cooked bitter green vegetable. None of the flavors were pleasant in and of themselves, and together they were a disaster. I thought long and hard before writing this because it's obvious that the management and chef are trying hard, but before spending money on a meal here, it would be wise to proceed with caution. Pros: Available Parking Cons: The Food more

Wouldn't waste your money 7/13/2009

I've eaten at the Wild Grape a couple times, and each time I was underwhelmed. I feel like the food just isn't what it should be for the price. more

3 strikes 3/25/2009

This is my 3rd trip to Wild Grape. You never want to judge too harshly or positively in the first few months of a restaurants life, since there are so many hiccups to work through. However, on this last trip through, it seems the old problems just don't stop. On each visit now, the food has come out cold. Once it wasn't just ""not warm""...but actually ""cold"". I ordered a specialty hot chocolate on their menu this last time, and had to send it back to be warmed. Then had the Creole Shrimp set in front of me luke warm at best. This is either the server leaving my meal in the window far to long that it loses it's heat...OR the cooks simply being too aggressive to get things out of the kitchen that they aren't testing the food first. Either way, all 3 of my visits over 4 months and the same problem exists. In addition, while I like my sweet flavors, you can tell the chef here Loves his. The Creole shrimp and Grits dish was basically a lake of cream sauce with maple syrup added in. No spice or subtle creole flavors added. I'm very glad that they are busy...and I'm certain they will continue to be. It's a GREAT use of the old space, and summer out on the patio will be nice. But come on guys (and gals)....you only get so long to get over start-up glitches. Can I just get some Hot food?!? Pros: Great use of the old space Cons: Execution poor on each visit more

Nice waitress, bad food, even worse manager 3/11/2009

Went to brunch last weekend. Food was NOT good. small portions, my bread was toasted, however my friend's was not, she got two little pieces of plain bread next to her cold eggs. Potatoes were not seasoned well, and undercooked. Two tiny pieces of light brown rubbery bacon.....totally disgusting. We asked the waitress if she could ask them to crisp up the bacon...it came back black on one side. Then, to top if off, one of our friends was late and the manager (red head with pony tail) said to the hostess (short blonde hair) right in front of us ""see, this is what happens when you seat them before the whole party is here, now they are never going to leave!""....needless to say, we didn't feel welcome and won't be going back. Pros: friendly wait staff Cons: manager, food more

A very welcome addition to the neighborhood 2/27/2009

This has become something of a regular spot for us. We have been about 6 times including once for brunch and see the continual efforts to improve and refine.\r \r Starting with wine: I am very impressed by the knowledge the wait staff demonstrateof the various wines (I did pop in to the restaurant before it opened as I saw there were a number of people in there and spoke to Chuck, the owners father. At the time the staff were being educated about the wine list - impressive I thought. There is a good selection and you can always get a recommendation from either the bar staff or the sommelier. The atmosphere in the small bar area is very convivial whilst remaining intimate and the TV is kept at an approriate volume to allow conversation to take place. Good cocktails too.\r \r An interesting innovation is the late night menu available for post theatre or movie goers (or just late drop ins). This varies from the main menu and is available after 10 (I think - maybe it's 9)\r \r The food was variable in the early days, but has got better. The risotto as mentioned previously is a bit on the starchy and dry side, which is unfortunate as it is a favorite food of ours but we haven't seen much improvement. On the other hand the Lamb Burger is stellar, tasty, juicy, just a hint of mint and spice - delicious. The starters present a pleasant mix of options with the artisan cheese plate making a nice one to share between two, though my favorite is the pork bellies and grits. If I had to criticize I would say they need to pay more attention to the heat of the food, most of the time our meals have been warm rather than hot. A nice touch is the amuse bouche sent by the chef.\r \r We went once for brunch - unfortunately not a good experience. We were seated promptly but the waiter forgot about us, the food was average at best, but most off putting, the waiters shirt was filthy with coffee and food stains\r \r This is a great addition to SLC, try it. It always seems to be buzzing. Pros: Ambience, Wine Knowledge, Lamb Burger more

Not at all what it was. 2/20/2009

Hi I decided to try the Wild Grape again on my 2nd trip to S.L.C. . I was here for a few days last year when they first opened and was able to meet with the owner Troy who was able to tell me about his resautraunt. The idea was great it was great food the waitstaff was very professional and the food was amazing.I am very glad not to of written my review then. My second trip was not worth my visit. the general manger was great she is adorable her staff is on the other hand I would say a bit over there heads very non professional in the speech around the customers swearing talking about illegal substances and there most recent adventures the night before. The food was a shadow of what it was last year. I feel the food might as well be served in a chafing dish tasteless with a essence of banquet quality food. A associate of mine ate the arugula salad it was disgusting and very starchy and the blue cheese ball was horribly distasteful . The kitchen staff was loud and acting childish in there speech and actions. They all looked different vs my first visit where it was nice to see all the chefs dressed in uniform now they wear what they want how they want and no order to the kitchen. I even saw a chef with a black cap with a sweat ring around it now how exactly is that clean? My food came out half cold half warm not even at all good. the wild grape to me Troy has fallen along way to where I wouldn't take associates of mine to a place i would put along side Dennys. I feel the atmosphere was great. the wine selection is great and very unique to the area. Pros: Soup of the Day best damn soup I have ever had Cons: Sloppy Staff. Poor Food Quality and managment more

A nice change for boring Utah 1/25/2009

My husband and I moved to Davis county last year from California. It's been so difficult to live in a world of Applebees, Chili's and Olive Gardens..not our idea of going out to eat.\r \r I work at the U and although sad to see the Avenues Bakery close, I was happy to see the Wild Grape open. I drove past for weeks and noticed it was packed. So we had dinner there two weekends ago.\r \r First, do make a reservation. We had dinner at 7:30 and it was still busy. The wines were yummy - we each had a glass of the St.Michelle - cab I think - at the bar while wating for our table. \r \r My husband had the buffalo and I had the pork tenderloin - both dishes were very flavorful, although my husband felt his meat to be bit overcooked.\r \r The service was wonderful, as well as the ambience. We were also happy to see a decent beer selection (Rogue beer on the list, not just Bud/Coors) offered.\r \r The only negative I can think of was that the waitstaff wore name tags. I thought that took it down a bit. The overall feel was wonderful, and the food very good. We will visit again. more

Underwhelmed 1/17/2009

We went to The Wild Grape for the first time this morning, for brunch. We'll probably try it again for their other meals, but with much lower expectations. I had eggs benedict, with smoked portobello mushrooms and spinach. The hollandaise was fine, as were the eggs, but the English muffin had the bitter taste of an inexpensive brand from the grocery store. I wish the menu had mentioned that the smoked mushrooms were also marinated; I might have chosen something else. My companion's toast arrived completely dry, with nothing on the table to spread on it. Worst of all were the potatoes, which were undercooked to the point of hardness. But the weakness of the coffee came in a close second.\r \r I have no complaint with the service (prompt and attentive) or the ambiance, but I go to restaurants for the food, and this one did nothing to recommend itself to me today. Pros: At least it was cheap-- my eggs benedict was only $7 Cons: Not the best ingredients, not cooked to perfection more

Excellent Wine Bar! 1/1/2009

After going back to the grape with a friend who hadn't tried it, I am still very into this place. We chose a seat on the patio where the grapevines blocked the noise from the street. Sat back had blue corn waffles (amazing) and drank lychee and strawberry rhubarb mimosas. The found came out timely and delicious and the staff was completely friendly. The manager greeted every table and stop to chat here and there. \r I left stuffed ! Pros: service mimosa list from hell! Cons: need misters for the patio! more

Great wine list, very good food and much needed new spot in SLC! 12/29/2008

Dinner for 5, all with different choices, all were great.\r \r We tried two different wines new to us - great results.\r \r Service was attentive and quick without being at the table all the time.\r \r We are going back - often. Pros: Ambience, wine selection, great food Cons: None other than we needed this type place long ago. more
