Wonderful Venue for All Types of Art 8/17/2005

The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts is truly a jewel in downtown Louisville. The modern architecture stands out downtown without being overwhelming. Sculptures fill the lobby and are even seen on the front steps. Once inside the main theater (Whitney Hall), you are treated to quite a large space. There are three levels of seating and there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The acoustics are wonderful, whether you're enjoying the Louisville Orchestra or a visiting Broadway Show. My only suggestion would be to reserve a box cautiously. It's very fun to sit in these special seats, but depending upon the show you might miss a few things happening far stage right or stage left depending upon your seat. Students should note that you can often get rush seats for the Orchestra performances at a discounted price just before curtain time. more

Great place to see a show 8/16/2005

At The Kentucky Center just about anyone can find something that they'd be interested in seeing. From comedians to broadway shows, they offer a wide variety of options. The center itself is comfortable and quite welcoming, despite the somewhat bland exterior. I would recommend it no matter what you're going to see there but particularly for the broadway shows that come to town and play there. I've seen several and it's a really unique way to spend a night out. Prices range from very affordable to slightly overpriced, depending on what show you're seeing and how you feel about the performer. more

Wonderful facility for shows. 8/9/2005

I have seen several shows at the Kentucky Center over the years, and would definitely recommend seeing one there. They offer the Broadway shows, which is nice for people who cannot go to New York :) I have never had a bad seat there. There are actually a few different theaters in this one location. They also offer an on-site gift shop and box office, or you can call and purchase tickets over the phone. more

We are the home for Louisville's nationally-renowned arts scene, to The Louisville Orchestra, Kentucky Opera, Louisville Ballet, Stage One and PNC Bank Broadway Across America – Louisville, as well as a host of community theaters and our own Kentucky Center Presents performances. The three theaters of the Center, along with our sister facility the elegant W. L. Lyons Brown Theatre, are Kentucky's showcases for the performing arts. From Broadway to ballet, from blues to bluegrass, from Big Bands to Beethoven, our stages overflow with magnificent entertainment almost every night of the year. The Kentucky Center has four times been voted Kentucky's best venue for music, theater and dance by the readers of Kentucky Monthly magazine. But it is more than stages and theaters. It is the Governor's School for the Arts in Lexington, offering three weeks of intensive training for hundreds of Kentucky's finest high school artists every summer. Its educational programs bring the arts to children and adults in dozens of community centers, showcases, three institutes and all of Kentucky's educational regions. Through its programming and education departments, the Center is able to bring the arts to virtually all of Kentucky's 120 counties. And its access services ensure that everyone can experience the wonders of the performing arts without barriers or restrictions.
