I am very impressed with Solar Bear.  I needed someone to come out to my rental property to check over my not working heating system for my renter.  They were the second company I called.  The first company told me I needed a complete new central heating and a/c system.  Yes, the system is old, but they just didn't give me confidence about their inspection.  I wanted a second opinion and called Solar Bear.  They were out within an hour and up on the roof.  They found some loose wires in the system, that they assume, had not been put back together by the first company's inspection!  They attached the wires, checked the system at the thermostat, and called me with complete info on what they found.  The system is now working and I will not hesitate to call Solar Bear in the future for A/C needs for my rentals and my own home. -- Kathleen Labreden\r more

Poor service, tried to sell me unneccesary replacement parts and addtional service. 4/11/2012

I have a 10 yr old furnace that started vibrating. Solar Bear came out, inspected it, and told me the blower bearings were shot and the blower needed to be replaced. I was also told the burners needed to be sanded. I was told it would be best to buy a new furnace since more repairs would likely be needed soon. (Life expectancy is 20 years on the model I have) I called another company for a 2nd opinion. They actually pulled out the blower, and found it needed cleaning and took it to a car wash to thorougly clean it. That was the only problem. They told me my furnace is in great shape. When I stopped by Solar Bear to explain what happened, the manager/owner said his technicians where from Arizona, where they are paid on commission to sell repairs/new systems. He apologized, gave me two electrostatic filters, and signed me up for a free two year maintenence agreement. I had to return later (a few weeks) because the filters were the wrong size. He exchanged them, but tried to sell me a furnace he had in the back. He said since I walked into his shop, he had to try to sell me something. I'm not letting them back into my home again. more

Last fall I waited all day...another no show. I had company from the Midwest so our plans were thwarted. I was livid! The tech who came this past week suggested a new heating/air conditioning system. Of course, I know that is the purpose of a service contact...to sell something to me. Unlikely I would buy it from Solar as there are two very reputable dealers right up the road from me. Gentleman called to see if they could schedule an appointment to drain and service our hot water heater. I asked him how he got my number. He turned very confrontational and used profane language. Not getting my business with that foul mouth. Hope no one ever uses him. I made the appointment on a Monday and they showed up early on Friday as promised. In about 2 1/2 hours they cleaned all the air ducts and performed a furnace inspection. They were efficient, friendly and courteous. The workers cleaned up after themselves and did not leave any messes behind. My wife and I felt very comfortable with the workers in our home while they did their job. In times past, I asked another company never to return because of dirty work and attitudes. more

I had a scheduled review of my system; the service person was nice, but spent more time trying to talk me into more services than attention to my HVAC. He convinced me I must have a new capacitor, which initial quoted cost was $229, then after I said no, the price went to $149. I found the same model on-line for $18!!!!!!! This is greedy profit for a simple item. The service man did not even look at my filter!!! I will not use Solarbear again and do not recommend their services. Joe Castle Rock, CO more

I am not going to rate the service pearson who did maintnance on my water heater, but I will say he neads to pay attention. The water in our shower became cold during our showers. I finally checked the heater to find out the gage was on pilot. I took it off pilot, and it is working fine. more

Would not recommend due to unsatisfactory service 7/20/2011

I scheduled an appointment for regular summer checkup for $49. The service tech was better at coercing acceptance of an annual maintenance program than doing a thorough examination of the heat pump. He highly recommended an acid-wash on the outside unit and an electrostatic washable filter, both of which would be included with the price of the maintenance contract: $499, which was "a great deal since my unit could go at any time." He was here for around 2 or 3 hours - I signed. Within two working days, I called to cancel the contract after seeing that the BBB had revoked the company's accreditation and given them a D-. It took 5 phone calls and 6 1/2 weeks to get my money back (all but $157 for the checkup and unnecessary acid-wash & filter.) I had to pay another company to do a check-up and minor repair of my system. RESPONSE FROM Solar Bear: Mrs. Vandergarn, I hate to hear that you were dissatisfied with the price of our services. When our customers are not satisfied, I am not satisfied. Through the years we had hoped that by giving our customers a final price estimate before conducting work, a contract that includes the final price before we do the work, and an invoice detailing all charges after the work has been completed that we could eliminate misunderstandings about the cost of our services. Apparently, we have more work to do on that front. Meanwhile, we appreciate your business and dont want to lose you as a customer. We off our guarantee that after we inspect your system if anything happens to it in the next 6 months we would come out to check it at no cost. It is our Satisfaction Guarantee! It sounds like the technician did his job in informing you of potential future problems, even though it was unfortunate to be so soon. We did, after hearing of your concerns credit back to you the funds less the work performed. Our BBB status was incorrect at that time and is an issue we are working on. However you stated that you cancelled the service agreement because of the rating, not because of the disatisfaction of our services. We would hate to lose you as a future customer and hope you would give our Premium services a chance in the future to serve you. more

We were very impressed with Steve Moran when he came for the inspection. We had some plumbing problems and he explained what he found in terms we could understand and wrote everything down and went over it with us. We were also very impressed with James Alexander. He was also very knowledgeable and told us all that he was going to do. He fixed everything that needed attention and stayed until all work was done. He wrote down everything he did and went over it thoroughly with us. He also gave us some very helpful plumbing hints. He was friendly, polite and considerate and a thoroughly delightful person to work with. more

I first used Solar Bear for a promo deal, offering a free in-home plumbing check. When the heater in my home blew up this winter, I called them again. They came out on a Saturday to investigate the problem, which I thought was exceptional. They even put us up in a hotel while we waited on the new unit to be put in, since we didn't have any heat. The service tech was prompt and courteous. He had most of the necessary parts right away, but a few took a little longer to order. Solar Bear do a good job, and I would recommend them. I'll definitely use them again. more
