Literary and Historic Museum 7/25/2005

If you are a poetry or literature buff, or just a fan of the Victorian era, you will love this ambling through this museum/library. This library contains artifacts related to the Victorian poets Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning (Not sure who they are? You've surely heard quoted "How do I love thee--let me count the ways"--It's the first line of a poem written by Elizabeth Barret Browning. And any child knows of "The Pied Piper," penned by Robert Browning--though he was not primarily a children's writer.) You can see paintings of the brownings, furniture from their home (including Robert Browning's Writing Desk), artwork which inspired some of their work, and other works of art inspired by their work, correspondence, relics from their home, and other items. The architecture in the library is beautiful. One room with a high exquisitely carved ceiling, murals, and towering stained glass windows is especially breathtaking. They suggest a $2 donation, but admission is free. more
