I have been using Dr. K for seven years 5/1/2012

I have been using Dr. K for seven years now and she has saved my Monkey boy's eyes. First he had a tumor and she got that fixed and then herpes virus that we have been tending an now is other eye is going bad from herpes, It just happened recently but we are dealing with it. Blackberry the Monkey Boy adores her. She will always be his eye doctor. I wish I could give her a hundred stars. She is worth it. more

We have experience w/ many vets in 1/23/2012

We have experience w/ many vets in Portland. In terms of clinical skill and intelligence, Dr. K gets our highest rating. She's 5 stars for sure. Unfortunately, the way her office is run leaves something to be desired. The office staff tends to be less knowledgeable and less organized than other vet offices we've seen. Also, we typically have to wait 30 min or more beyond our stated appointment time to be seen--a real bummer. That being said, we will continue to take our pets here b/c of how great the Dr. is. But, we hope the office functions improve. 4 out of 5 stars overall. more

Best ever 9/16/2010

First let me state we are veterinarian snobs and have very high standards... I have noticed we spend an inordinate amount of time talking about our pets and consequently their vets. We were referred to Dr. Kirschner twice for 2 different dogs. Unless it is an emergency and I couldn't get an appointment, I will always go to Dr. Kirschner! My dog had a very painful eye and we were able to get an appointment the same day. She ended up with a grid keratotomy and her eye healed almost immediately. On a visit to my regular vet yesterday she made a special point of looking at the eye and said, ""I am always impressed at what amazing work Dr. Kirschner does"". more

Good Experience 11/16/2009

I have to take an entire day off work for the appointment because of the available times. We arrived on time for both appointments and still had to wait about half an hour. Other than the time issues, we love the doctor. She is very nice, friendly and knowledgeable. She is very good with my dog and explains things to me in a way I can understand, without talking to me like a child. Her prices are also comparable to or lower than others. Pros: Good listener, seems to really care about animals Cons: Appointment times more

Outstanding 3/6/2009

We have taken our cat to Dr. Kirshner twice and she has always provided exceptional/knowledgeable service. Our appointments were on time and all calls were returned promptly. Those 2 reviewers sound like they would be problematic no matter where they went. High praise for the Animal Eye Doctor! Pros: Professional and knowledgeable more

Bad experience 10/23/2008

I took my cat in to see Dr. Kirschner for an eye problem he's been struggling with for several weeks. When I called to make the appt. the first one they had available was 3 weeks out. I re-arranged my schedule in order to take him in because I wanted him to be seen ASAP. When I arrived (on time), I was given a history sheet to fill out. I turned it in, and continued to wait. After a half an hour of waiting, I asked if I had written down the wrong appointment time. I was informed that I had the correct time but that 3 ""fit-ins"" were before me (doesn't an appt. come before a ""fit-in""? Why did I wait 3 weeks for an appt. if I could have just walked in?). Meanwhile, my poor cat was trembling in the corner of his carrier because he was so scared of all the dogs in the waiting room. After an HOUR of waiting, they finally called me in. The only apology that I was offered was by the vet tech. No else seemed concerned that I had been waiting for an hour. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with the customer service aspect of the practice, as well as their disregard for the well-being of my cat. I would recommend avoiding this particular practice if you can. I am going to try to get an appointment with a vet eye Dr. on the eastside from now on, even though it is much further from my home. Pros: Close-in Beaverton Cons: Poor customer service, not very cat friendly more

Very Different Experience than the previous review 8/6/2007

Dr. Kirschner was always very attentive to our cat Truffles and I never felt rushed. Truffles had a few complications and we were trying to address each one. They were very prompt and helpful. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Kirschner. I'm sorry the other reviewer and her precious dog. Pros: Recommended by my primary vet more

Sad Treatment... 2/12/2007

I had a very sad experience with Dr. Kirschner, leaving me upset. My dog saw her for an eye problem that was difficult to diagnose, and she was having bouts of glaucoma. As the months progressed, the episodes continued to worsen. I kept calling because it was frustrating and upsetting to see my dog in pain. I found my calls were not returned, and it was difficult to make appointments unless they were several weeks out. She only wanted weekly reports of her episodes. I recently took my dog to another eye specialist, but by now she has lost all vision, and we need to have her eye removed. I don't know if her loss of vision could have been prevented or delayed, but I am left no knowing... Pros: Location Cons: Scheduling, returning phone calls, calling in prescriptions, treatment and diagnosis. more
