Dog came home not the same - broken leg and spirit 7/2/2010

This is for the rr 620 location. I would strongly recommend against boarding your smaller dogs with Taurus. I had a horrible experience boarding my min pin with them. He is my baby and is very small. I had a death in the family that required me to leave on a very short notice and travel overseas so I decided to let him board with Taurus. While in their care my little dog broke his leg, it snapped in two. I was told that his leg caught in one of the linoleum metal strips on the stairs that hold it down and broke. The dog was supposed to be carried down the stairs, but instead they let him run down the stairs and hurt himself. The little bone on the leg is broken in 3 place, the bigger one snapped in half. I am crying as I am writing this, I still cant believe that they did that to him. The dog is not the same. He is always afraid, his leg is now crooked, and who knows if/how he will heal. I am heartbroken looking at my little boy suffer every day because of the pure negligence of the people at Taurus. PLEASE, FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR PETS, CONSIDER BOARDING THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE. Update - Nov 29, 2010 My dog is finally better, almost back to normal. His little body went through hell but he is now happy again. It looks like he had a post surgery infection that went unnoticed for a while. The infection affected his heart to the point where his lungs were filling up with fluid and he was coughing up fluids. His infection was not diagnosed by any of the caring vets - NOLA Emergency Vet Hospital, Lake Travis Animal Hospital. Thankfully during an emergency visit to his orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kerpsack recognized the infection and gave him the correct antibiotics. Soon after the infection went away and my dog began to feel and behave normally. Cons: hurt my dog more

Taurus Lamar uses crates! 7/15/2008

The majority of the dogs at Taurus Lamar are in crates. The large kennels are used to double up dogs. Owners are not notified unless they inquire. You may think you are getting a run when you make a reservation for a large dog...think again. This is a place that started with great intentions but has obviously not kept up with growth. We are done!! more

Our ""tails"" are wagging... 5/28/2008

The first time I dropped my pooch off at Taurus on South Lamar, I felt a bit weary, only because I have never trusted my dog with a complete stranger. Little did I know that I had nothing to worry about! While I was away for one week, I called everyday to get the status of my dog and they said she was doing great. When I came back, she looked vibrant and happy as ever! We will happily return! Pros: Convenient Location, Prices more

Overcrouded, most dogs in crates 4/6/2008

We just got back from touring the Lamar location. The dogs where all indoors at the time we where there and where packed in, most in crates. What appeared to be the original kennels(permanent structures) were about 4 x 6 and had two large dogs in each. Stacked on top were smaller portable kennels(the plastic crates most use to travel with) and had smaller dogs. Pros: Staff was friendly Cons: Overcrouded, lack of real kennels, most dogs crated and doubled up! more

Lamar - If your dog likes being crated . . . . . . 8/24/2007

then this is the place for you. They have no indoor play facility, therefore they have to take the dogs outside to play in shifts. They cannot or will not tell you how much time your dog spends out of the crate. From the way my dog acted when I picked her up, I would have to guess most of the day was spent in the crate. They never answer the phone and do not return phone calls until late evening. This is a popular place despite its major flaw, so you must book early. On the positive side, the staff is very nice and seems to genuinely like dogs. Pros: Staff, Location Cons: Excessive crating, No indoor play area more

Metric is great; avoid the Lamar location 5/8/2007

We go to several doggy day cares and like others better that let the dogs play all day (and then sleep at home at night!). Our dogs have always been happy and come home tired from the Metric location, even though they are in kennels some of the day. The staff are so friendly. However, we've stopped going to the Lamar location. Our dogs would always come home hyper, like they had been caged up all day. For the money, it wasn't worth it at that location. We've only used the McNeil one a couple of times so can't speak to it. Pros: Dog lovin' staff, great hours, very flexible and will work with you Cons: Dogs come home crazier at end of day - caged up all day more

My dogs are happy dogs! 10/6/2006

Taurus training on S. Lamar is fabulous. They have helped my rural dogs go from very unsocialized barker/biters to less stressed, more relaxed around other pups, able to play in groups with other dogs, and generally more obediant pets. My dogs love going and cannot wait for me to get up and get dressed every morning so we can all get in the car and go to Taurus. The staff are attentive, obviously good with dogs and are willing to supply any info I need about my two. When I see other people dropping their dogs off in the morning, those dogs also look enthusiastic to be going to Taurus. I am very pleased with their service and highly recommend them to anyone. more

Variable care, nice staff & always available 12/11/2005

We've taken our dog to Taurus @ McNeil location several times for daycare & overnight stays. At first, everything seemed great - the service & our dog came back exhausted, which is a sign to us that she had a lot of playtime. Now it varies, some days she comes home acting as if she's been caged up all day & wants to play all night long, some days she's exhausted-which is a sign she's been very active. There were miscommunications from the staff, they ""flagged"" our dog as a dog who can only play w/ staff but never told us until we inquired about her behaviors after pickups (they apologized & adjusted the bill). We just want to make sure we get our money's worth, & we're unsure if this is the case. We will continue to proceed with caution. Pros: Convenient, Socialization (some), Always available Cons: No report card, vague communication, inconsistent results more
