Amazing 11/22/2011

I went to Sweet Melissa after work the other day and decided to unwind by taking a seat in the back garden. By the time I'm halfway my coffee, I felt the burdens of a hard day being lifted from my shoulders. An amazing retreat. A hidden paradise in Brooklyn. more

Overrated 9/6/2010

Decided to venture in one evening for a cup of coffee and desert, boy was I disappointed. It was an awful Cappucino and the cake was dry! Thank God for Cafe Pedlar just nearby. more

I wish I was there right now 8/12/2010

I'm fantasizing about lemon tarts and bread pudding ! Help!!!!! but seriously this place is amazing - ..the pastries are beyond great and the variety from macaroons to muffins will suit every taste... The menu is also a winner (the welsh rarebit is so perfect!) and the new weekend brunch tops my list ...Try the ""Clafouti"" for something wonderfully different. If that wasn't enough - this eatery boasts a cozy dining space - but the real treasure is the back garden - Beautiful! Enjoy it before summer's end - you will love it! more

Get your Ice Cream!!! 8/12/2010

What a great addition to an already stellar eatery -In Cobble Hill Bklyn this is the best spot for ice cream in the neighborhood by far, because its not just cones and cups ( all the classic flavors, as well as uncommon fare like raspberry truffle and peach ) but ... amazing sundaes made with plenty of top shelf ingredients - the hot fudge is to die for! Go for it! Sweet place Sweet staff,Sweet Stuff! more

Melissa needs a reality check. 6/28/2010

I joined a friend?s celebration brunch here yesterday. The food was mediocre at best. I?ve had a better brunch on an airplane (and the portions were actually much better as well). Small h?orderves, scones, tea, lemonade, and a cake turned out to be around $100usd per head. When my friend contested the final price she was screamed at, and chased down the street by the owner. Overall a really bad experience for about a 1/5th the price of a round-trip to the UK where you could get the real thing. Pros: Location? Cons: Overall value more

Not So Sweet Melissa 6/28/2010

I just held a Queens Tea at Sweet Melissa's and will never, ever return. Pros: Cakes Cons: Queens Tea, Party Planning, Customer Service, Melissa Murphy more

Good morning noshes 2/28/2009

I just grabbed a large decaf latte, two ham and gruyere croissants, a chocolate croissant, and a sour cherry biscotti. The latte was terrific--great flavor (not insipid), very hot (but not scalding). The biscotti was not my favorite; a bit sweet. The chocolate croissant was very good and the ham and cheese croissants were honestly, out of this world! Fresh, crispy layers, buttery goodness. What a great way to start the day. I usually enjoy Sweet Melissa's pastries, but have had some mediocre experiences. And I don't recommend their lunches. But this to-go breakfast was wonderful. I know they've had mixed reviews on the service, but I always have found the counter service to be good, and the girl who served me this morning was cheerful, pleasant, and efficient. more

Underwhelming 2/7/2009

I live in the area and after reading so many good reviews about this place, I finally went today for brunch. My cafe au lait was lukewarm, my croissant didn't taste very fresh (even though they claim to bake daily) and it took them a long time for my order to arrive. Even worst, my date's order didn't come at the same time and he had to wait some more. The waitstaff was nice, but a little flaky and not very attentive - I had to flag someone down a couple of times before someone saw me. Needless to say, I was completely disappointed and I will not be coming back. Pros: Cute decor, lively crowd Cons: Staff was not very attentive, baked goods not fresh more

Won't go there again! 1/19/2009

Stopped by Sweet Melissa's on Court Street last weekend for an after dinner tea and dessert and was very disappointed. The almond croissant was inedible, dry and very stale. I was willing to overlook that and ask for another dessert, but then my tea arrived and I noticed that the teapot and cup were both dirty with accumulated residue. I then informed the waitress of this and told her I would pay her a tip for her trouble but not for the items given the circumstances. She was so rude and unapologetic that I just left shaking my head at how clueless they have become. Pros: I honestly can't come up with one Cons: Desserts are old, poor non-attentive service, dirty more

Very good, but not worth the price 7/16/2008

My husband and I treated ourselves to two cones today, and it cost us $12 for the both of us! The ice cream was very delicious, but I don't know if it was worth the price. I miss the old ice cream parlor on Henry Street (where the karate place is now). They were at least within my price range. more

Over Priced and Over Rated 6/21/2008

Ugh! Waited online for 20 minutes to be treated disrespectfully while watching staff belittle younger staff members. No customer service! I don't even know how my ice cream tasted I was so turned off. Stick to other ice cream joints in the neighborhood which are less pretentious! more

Not so hot 4/22/2008

Not up to the hype. Not very fresh and the staff is rude. This is true of the Park Slope location as well. Pros: When fresh the baked goods are fine Cons: Not always fresh and the service is pretentious and rude more

Okay treats, but the service stinks... 4/2/2008

Treats are okay, not the best I've ever had. Sometimes I feel like they aren't that fresh. The service is horrible, at least in Starbucks they sometimes try to force a smile and serve you quickly. more

Try it, you'll hate it 1/7/2008

Although i gave sweet melissa more then one chance, i have been disappointed every time i go. The service is so poor, i almost left before the food arrived. It would be nice if they were more attentive to the customers then in the conversations they are engaged in with one another. When the food finally arrived, it seems like it could have potentially been good, but the fact that it was obviously more then two to three days old cut my appetite. I first ordered a sour cherry clafoutis, with two chestnut honey madelienes. Like i said, both a disaster and very over priced. Although Melissa calls herself a top pastry chef, i can say that with my own culinary experience that this is an extremely poorly run business, that is not clean and definitely needs new employees. Pros: the location?? Cons: everything else more

Amazing Food, Amazing Atmosphere, Amazing Place!! 10/6/2007

Went in and service was punctual. Love the environment/atmosphere, very homey and comfortable, good interior design. They have a beautiful outdoor patio, and nice seating inside. Staff is accomodating with party size. Nice, friendly staff members. Ordered soup du jour (carrot ginger) and was blown away, delicious! Ordered the filet mignon sandwich, the homemade condiments were soooo good, and the sandwich was amazing! Most sandiwches come with side salads, wish they sold their homemade dressing! Also was impressed with coffees and teas. Dessert!! Amazing! I ordered the cheesecake, my friends ordered the banana cream pie, and the bread pudding, which was the best dessert by far! Overall, I love this restaurant and will go back often. The only hang up is that its slightly pricey (not expensive, but not an everyday eatery). Worth it!! Love it!! more

I'm sorry to have to do this but... 2/4/2007

Sweet Melissa's linzer tarts - though touted as being something to truly marvel at - fall very very short of mediocre. Pros: Amusing waiters at times, good macaroon... Cons: way over hyped linzer torte, bad petite forts as well and blah coffee more

Sweetness 1/24/2007

I had a fantastic experience at Sweet Melissa last week! The pastries were to-die-for (esp. the Chocolate Almond croissant), and the staff was super-friendly. And it's such a cozy space in the winter for tea. Loved it! more

Love sweets but don't like people 11/2/2006

I love sweets there, especially banana chocolate pudding, which is amazing, but the people serving us are horrible. Today I asked a piece of pudding and she cut one out of the whole with the knife, which did not look clean. When she tried to place the cake in the container, she was about to drop (it actually touched the counter) but she tried to serve that one to me, so I said ""I need a new one"". It is just a shame why they can have a bit more educated people there to serve. At the end, it is service industry they are in. Pros: food (sweats) Cons: service, expensive more

Sour melissa 10/25/2006

I'm sorry for the desserts but this place is a no-no. The people who are supposed to tend the counter and tables are rude, uneducated, slow. The price of some treats were handwritten in a tricky way that led to believe something diferent. Of course when the check arrived the total was surprising. No nice at all, plus all the attitude. I regret have gone to this place just because it was the closest to the movie theater. I wish we would have walked to STARBUCKS in Court St. too, the coffee and treats are cheaper there (believe or not) and you always are so welcome. Please read the other reviews. Cons: pricey, rude, misleading more
