Best

The sandwiches are awesome. Very fresh and made to order. Parking sucks there, but they do have curbside pick-up if you can't find a spot.

Worst

having lived in germany and england for extensive periods i have come to love a good old doner for lunch, late breakfast, after a night out at the boozer errr.. anytime really.\r ...

A very bad example of a doner 11/12/2006

Went to eat a doner sandwhich for lunch it's the kind of doner that gives Turkish food a bad name. the kebab is served inside foccacia bread which is toasted it also contains salad. The quality of the meat itself is not good, it has a high fat content and is herbed. A good doner has a good balance of beef and lamb and should not contain any herbs. The meat looks like the ready made kind , and the people there don't have an inkling of Turkish food or kebab, it's just whatever. more

Great food, bad parking! 11/4/2006

If you miss a good ol' Turkish doner, Spitz is the place to be. Parking is limited as there are only two spots, but you can leave your car at Sizzlers or park on the streets nearby. Compared to traditional uncut breads known in Europe, this restaurant slices their doners into Americanized sandwich slices. The fries here are crispy and fresh but their sweet potato fries are amazing. Try the gelato or ask for a free taste. Pros: Only place to get Doners Cons: Horrible parking more

Spitz-fire fantastic 11/1/2006

This place has delicious sandwiches at reasonable prices. My boyfriend and I split the original - finely shaved lamb/beef of foccacia with tomato, lettuce, spicy sauce and tzatziki - which came with a side (FRIES!!) and a drink for about 8 bucks. And... we were both stuffed. Gelato is good too, and they are quite liberal with their samples. THe only downside - waits can be long. Pros: Sandwiches, Gelato Cons: Service can be slow. more

Good enough to last you throughout the day! 8/29/2006

I love this place! Not only do they serve really good gelatos (plus you can get a free taste test) but they have the best sandwiches... I got the classic with a side order of sweet potato fries. I almost wrecked my weighing scale, but who cares?! It was worth it! more

Best Sandwich I've ever had!!! 8/14/2006

I've been to Spiz three times in the last week and every time I can't believe what an excellent product they serve. Everything on their menu is perfectly flavored and served. I had never tried Doner Kebab before, but I can see why it's so huge in Europe (or so the owners say). The patio is awesome both day and night (although I liked all the accent lighting at night), and the world-ecclectic music tops off the fun and relaxing atmosphere. Oh, and for dessert, they have the best gelato i've ever had, hands down! They owners said that they get it all the way from San Fransico because it was the only company they could find that doesn't mix any air into it, which is what gives it such amazing texture and flavor. And since they're open til 10 pm, I can definitely see myself going there just for a late-evening gelato with friens. Parking isn't great in the lot, but there's plenty on the street. Thank God someone finally got all the elements of a great restaurant without charging an arm and a leg! Can't wait to go back. Pros: Great food, atmosphere, and service at very resasonable prices. Cons: Parking isn't great, but it's easy to find spots on the street more

Fantastic and Unique Experience. 7/11/2006

Spitz is a fantastic place. It looks like a new, retro sandwich shop. It is right on Colorado in the middle of Eagle Rock. The sandwich's they serve (I got the classic) are both excellent and unique. The Doner Kebab is very much like a Gyro. It is roasted vertically and is a blend of beef and lamb. The seasoning is actually better and a little different than any Gyro I have tasted. They serve the meat with lettuce, tomato and cucumbers on thin grilled foccacia with a cucumber sauce and a chile sauce. They make both sauces in house. It is truly a high quality sandwich. I ordered mine with Sweet Potato fries that were great and a perfect compliment. They also serve a number of flavors of iced gelato (Italian ice cream) which I sampled, but was too full to order. Next time I'll save room and so should you. The flavors I tried (Bananas Foster and Tiramasu) were incredible. Upon return, I would get the Classic again, but they serve a chicken version and a falafel version too so take your pick. The owners Bryce and Robert are also great guys. I have nothing bad to say about Spitz. They even have a cool logo. You should check it out. Pros: Great People, Great Food, Great Place Cons: Small Parking Area, but spots easy to find on street. more

A great new place in Eagle Rock 6/16/2006

The original sandwich is delicious & the staff is friendly and accomodating. Kind of reminds me of the really good gyros that you can get in Detroit or Chicago (or anywhere with a big Greek population), except they serve them on a cripy foccacia. A welcome addition to the neighborhood! Pros: Unique & good-tasting food Cons: Kind of pricy more

Savory Doner Kabab based on the Turkish tradition, converted into the Spanish staple that it is today, Spitz delivers! The classic combo is great, try it with either sweet-potato fries or my personal favorite, the Pita Fries with homemade humus. Delicious! The place is trendy and funky and has a friendly atmosphere. The outside seating is great and the parking is plentifull. Pros: inexpensive, fun, good food more

  • Spitz brings you a sandwich sensation unlike any other. Made from either minced lamb and beef, chicken, or homemade falafel, the meats are slow-roasted to perfection in custom vertical broilers, which allow their juices to percolate and self-infuse for a product of unmatched taste and texture. Only when you order is the meat shaved into paper-thin strips and stuffed into Panini-grilled focaccia bread or wraped in Panini-grilled lavash bread. Salad and plate options are also available. Don't leave without trying our amazing gelato, so good it was named "BEST IN THE UNIVERSE" by Time Magazine. Nearly everything we serve is HOMEMADE and HEALTHY. We use NO LARD and add NO FAT. We fry in 100% PURE CANOLA OIL, which has NO TRANS-FAT, and is donnated for bio-diesel fuels after its use.
