An excellent animal clinic with affordable prices 9/23/2009

SAF was recommend to me by friends who couldn't believe how inexpensive they were and I've now recommended it to other people who are as impressed as I am. I've been to both of the vets who are excellent. The staff was very polite (I got to witness their handling of a local nut who accused them of being liars because they're supposed to be non-profit). No, they're not free, Mr. Degenerate New Orleans Cretin, but they are non-profit and they are the cheapest clinic in town. Now that I'm in New Jersey I'm having a hard time finding anything close to that level of animal care at the prices they offer. Consider yourselves lucky, New Orleans. Pros: Everything Cons: None that I've experienced. more

LIARS!! 9/8/2009

I brought my kitten to get her taken care of and after they told me that it will cost me $109.00 which I PAID right then and there, they told me to come back at 12 noon to pick her up. I showed up at noon and the lady at the front desk (Ann) told me I could not have my kitten back. She then told me that she didn't think I took care of my cat. That's why I brought her to a SECOND vet in the first place. I told her I wanted my cat back and she called the police and then FORCED me to sign my baby over. I probably feed every cat in the Uptown area out of my pocket and out the kindness of my heart....Now why would I NOT take care of MY kitten and I take care of everyone elses???? Cons: everything more

Fantastic Pet Care 5/12/2009

I would not take my pet anywhere else for health care. Both doctors and office staff are the most caring, knowledgable, and friendly I have experienced during the 6 years of my pet's life. I would trust NO ONE else with my dog. I have complete trust and faith in these people and have had no experience to make me feel otherwise. I can tell that caring for animals is not just a job for this staff, but a true commitment. Pros: Truly care about animals, not out to make a buck, affordable more

Unfeeling 4/30/2009

Well. My dog had some serious procedures done to her . Dr Lamarsh was taking care of her not once did he come talk to me about what to do about her after care . the office staff was telling me how to care for her I didnt believe a word they said I'm glad i didn't they were giving me completely different advice than Dr Jackson . So before yall give out advice at least know what you are talking about .The staff is so rude its really sad if you hate your job that much get another one . I always bite my tongue because iwould never leave my animals in the care of ppl whos attitudes are horrible .I have notcied when i am in saf which is on a monthly basis when ppl walk in who look like they have more than me they are treated in a differnt way almopst bending over backwards to wait on them .If you want to cater to rich aholes raise your prices . The lady at the desk i think her name is ann is a witch take off the w and add a b. She talks to ppl like they are beneath her now i just learned your daughter owns the place she needs to firs you , You are a bitter old wench who needs an attitude adjustment. If Dr jackson ever leaves thats the end of me at saf . One persons business dont make a difference but when that one person tells 10 ppl and those ppl tell 10 ppl well you do the math. I was in saf one day and i think it was annes dogs behind the desk one of the dogs barked and the fat blonde behind the desk look ed like she wanted to stick a fork in the dogs eye . rude rude rude Pros: Dr Jackson, Affordable Cons: Staff is rude , more

Uncaring, unprofessional and a Hazard to pets YOU LOVE! 4/25/2009

Dear viewer, I recently moved to New Orleans in late July so as a pet owner I had trials and errors trying to figure out which animal hospital might provide MORE than adequate care. For me it isn't about the $cost of services but about the education and the sincere care my dog should be entitled to receive. At the time I had one gorgeous Caucasian Ovtcharka and one maine coon cat. They had been in contact with flees from the courtyard of this fancy overly priced place I rent from. I had given them the normal dosage of anti flee preventatives but it did not work properly and I brought my mountain dog in to see the doctor so he in a very firm and strict voice encouraged me to hire an exterminator to spray all areas of this home and let the pets stay at that facility till the toxic spraying should go away. After this advice one month later my dog had deteriorated even more , same skin condition and he was biting holes in his fur and losing weight even though I fed him four large bowls per day and my own dinners as well. The doctor prescribed the same ritual, encouraged me to use more sprays (thank GOD I didn't) and asked me rather accusingly why my dog was losing so much weight. He told me to double his intake of food and sent us on our way, On Mardis Gras my dog's gums turned all white and most of the vets were closing so I had to take him to an emergency vet clinic and three days later he was given hemoglobin transfusions, After a second transfusion at another clinic he died and his cancer had been undiagnosed by this clinic. People please if you deeply love your pet do not go through these doors! My dog was only five and I received a postcard in the mail reminding me to take my dog here for his shots?? I called this hospital up very calmly and explained they need not send more reminders since my dog had died of cancer three weeks ago, This clinic had been contacted by Meterie animal hospital when he was being given transfusions yet this clinic never called me to see if Troika was okay? The technician who answered the phone today was cold, uncaring, unsympathetic and DEFENSIVE, SHE SAID oh you brought this dog in for a skin condition. I told her how much Dr. Lamarsh pointedly asked me why my dog was losing weight. I told her to call Metarie Small animal hospital if she wanted to inquire about what happened to my dog but no she was cold, superior and unapologetic. I had received sympathy cards from the staff of Metarie Small Animal Hospital and from Canine Connection where my dog enjoyed boarding stays but this staff here???? NOTHING!!!! People they don't care about animals here. I saw positive feedback and reviews that just don't match the poor treatment my beautiful dog received. My heart is broken and as an animal lover do not go here if your pet is seriously ill or shows signs of losing weight. In fact when I googled anorexia in dogs that is the very first sign of cancer, Please know I write this review deeply depressed that I had this problem with this clinic. Cancer is lethal when it is not caught on time and this clinic saw my beautiful dog four times in two months! They just wanted money --they did not care to see this dog get better or suggest testing to check for the most obvious disease. Since I am not a vet I truly did not know the signs but a vet should know what to look out for and what tests to run if they had had proper schooling or if they truly cared. Pros: There were none Cons: My dog died of cancer two months later by S U R P R I S E more

Great vet so far 3/16/2009

I took my eight-year-old Corgi here for the first time today. I had a good experience overall. We didn't have to wait too long to be seen. The have a separate entrance for dogs and cats, which I think is *genius*. Dr. Lamarsh really impressed me. He is obviously very smart and handled my baby very well. He had to give her a shot and clip her nails, neither of which she enjoys, but he was a pro. He asked a lot of questions about her eating, drinking, eliminating, etc., and really seemed to care about my dog. The tech was also very nice and helped put my dog at ease. I've never been financially responsible for another animal so I'm not exactly sure how SAF compares price-wise. It was $25 for the visit, then $25 for the heartworm test, and another $70 for six months of heartworm prevention which all sounded about right. $8.50 for nail trim is a bargain compared to what we go through trying to do it at home! We had to get a couple more meds for a skin allergy that she has developed, and after price-checking on the internet it looks like the prices were marked up a little bit but not a ton. To me that's worth the hassle of going to a pharmacy or trying to order online. The invoice very clearly explained all the charges, and also had reminders on when she needs her next shots and such. Also the directions on the medications were written out very clearly and the vet tech went over them with me. Pros: Smart, nice vet and techs Cons: Meds marked up just like at other vets, street parking only more

Urine Covered Dog 12/2/2008

I have a very difficult animal to care for, as he has many allergies, skin infections, joint problems etc. I started taking him here on the recommendation of a friend, and although they never managed to fix his problems, no one ever has, so I do not hold that against them. I was generally happy with their services until this Thanksgiving when I decided to board him for 6 nights. He has been boarded several other places before and has never had any problems, but I decided to board him at his vet just so that if something did happen, he would have care right away. Pros: Friendly vet (not staff) Cons: Poor Treatment / Supervision of animal more

Get your facts straight before you review this organization!! 7/8/2007

I just want to tell everyone out there that the previous poster, aimeelula is seriously misinformed. I started using this clinic for ferals, because their location was convenient to where I was trapping. I was so impressed with the entire staff, and their commitment to all animals, owned and stray alike, that I am currently using them for my own pets as well. I have brought in numerous ferals that were injured and needed medical care beyond just their spay/neuter, and they were the only clinic willing to work with me and not drain my bank account. I know for a fact that they do not get reimbursed by the state. They participate in the LASPCA voucher program. Any clinic that participates in this program gets reimbursed by the SPCA for the spays and neuters ONLY!! Yes, they may seem rushed at times, but walk in there in the morning when they are checking in 50 feral cats, and tell me if you would not feel rushed. I can tell you that the medical care is outstanding and not rushed at any time. If you want quality vet care at a very affordable price, than give them a try. They are AWESOME!! Pros: low cost. quality vet care. caring Cons: sometimes hard to get appointment, because they are so busy. more

Good intentions, really terrible execution 7/6/2007

This is an establishment with the potential of greatness, but they totally miss the mark. I started going there because they have a program with the state where they neuter/spay stray cats for $10, this includes all they're shots and a flea bath. This makes it very accessible for people to help with the over populating community of feral kitties. Pros: They have a program that help homeless animals get shots and fixed Cons: The staff is rude, place is stinky, they treat people terribly, and they act as if they care more than you could ever imagine caring. more
