Helping the children in our communities & United Way 11/16/2010

To the staff at Shleppers: A special thank you to all the people at Shleppers: Allen Golan, Jason Friedland and staff for helping United Way of Westchester and Putnam with the IBM Young Explorer computer systems project, accepting the computers at your warehouse and delivering the systems to the day care agencies. Our organization does not have warehouse space, equipment, or staff to accommodate the eight pallets of equipment that were delivered to your warehouse on October 21, 2010. All your warehouse staff were great – from those in the office who made sure we could park in a safe spot … to those who helped break down the pallets and rearrange into complete computer systems for each delivery stop … they made what seemed like a difficult and hard task so very easy. We would not have been able to accomplish this without their help. Equally important was your willingness to deliver the 25 computer systems to 20 different agencies in Westchester and Rockland. As you know, the computer systems will be used by 20 not for profit organizations in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland that provide child care services for head start, pre-school and after school programs, including programs for children who may have special needs. The experiences of hundreds of children will be enriched because of these systems. In fact, we have already heard from several of the organizations that received the systems … and the excitement level is quite high! On behalf of all the hundreds of children in our communities whom you will never know, thank you again for your willingness to help in this important project and deliver the IBM Young Explorer computer systems to the agencies in Westchester and Rockland. You have helped to change the lives of countless children in our communities. THANK YOU!!!! more

SHOULD BE ZERO STARS 11/3/2010

I had used Schlepper's in the past on several occasions, typically without incident. After our most recent experience in which company representatives damaged our apartment and furniture, lied to us repeatedly, lost an expensive piece of furniture and subjected us to their onerous claims process to then offer us a measly $12 to replace this piece of furniture, I will never use Schleppers again and I urge you to similarly avoid them at all costs. Please feel free to contact me and I will give additional details and names of the specific personnel we dealt with on this matter. Our apartment flooded in May, requiring us to move out while the floors were re-done, walls, repainted, etc. Schleppers did the initial move - they packed up our entire apartment and sent it to a storage unit, where it should have remained until we moved back in, about six weeks later. The move back into the apartment was an unmitigated disaster. Although we had requested (and paid for) the men to un-pack all of our kitchen goods, they hightailed it out of there without doing so. But not before damaging the newly painted walls by banging furniture against it, scratching the floors by dragging furniture across it, showing up an hour late, and being generally rude when we informed them that they had somehow failed to un-pack our bed. (The thing that we were most excited to return to after our six week involuntary vacation). They went to check their truck and the bed was not there either. They left under the pretense that they were returning to the storage unit to search for the bed. They never returned. For four hours following their departure, we engaged in a series of frustrating telephone calls with their office trying to track down where the movers (and our bed!) were. We spoke to people in their office and customer service department and each time, we were told that the movers were on their way to the storage unit; that they were stuck in traffic on their way to the storage unit; that they were on their way to the storage unit but could not contact the actual movers, etc. Finally, I was able to wrangle the foreman's cell phone number from one of the office-workers to see why we were waiting at home (missing work) for an additional 4 hours waiting for them to return. I called the foreman and, lo and behold, the movers never went back to check the storage unit. They instead headed directly to another job in lower Manhattan. No one had gone to the storage unit to see what happened to our bed; and no one did until about 9 PM that evening when they told us that even if they found it, they could not deliver it until the following morning. They did not find the bed. They told us that to be reimbursed for it, we would have to go through their claims process which required us to submit 3 estimates from "professionals" of the lost value. I'm not sure how many professionals there are that make a living valuing beds less than a year old, so we submitted the receipt for the bed as well as a link listing the bed's price. Four months later, we receive an email from their claims department offering us $12 for the bed. (We had paid for full insurance for the move.) A perfectly insulting ending to an already unfortunate episode. At every juncture beginning with the move-out, the people we dealt with were rude, unhelpful, and at many times, wholly incompetent. more

Bad salespeople, Good movers 7/27/2010

We moved recently and got quotes from several moving companies. Shlepper's gave us the cheapest "Quote", $140 per hour, 6 hours total = $840. When I asked if we would definitely be charged $840 (or the $140/hr), our salesperson Frank, gave me a verbal agreement and order of service that this would be the case. He was very buddy, buddy over the phone ensuring us we wouldn't be charged more. Well the move took 9 hours instead of 6, and we wound up being charge over $1,300. WHAT?! The actual guys who moved us did a great job, damaging nothing, and worked hard. But, we felt lied to. Other moving companies told us the rate was way too low and we should have believed them. We wound up paying MORE than we were quoted by other much more professional companies. Again, the actual movers, three Russian guys were great but because of shady salespeople, I would not recommend Shleppers. Pros: Hard working movers Cons: Shady salespeople, inaccurate quotes more

Best NY movers 4/30/2009

Just wanted to say that my move with Harry and his crew was absolutely joyful: such an nice, professional, and incredibly strong group of guys! The elevator in my building was out and they handled the 4 floor walkup like it was no big deal! I really couldn't have asked for a more perfect move. Big ups to Harry & Crew! Pros: Best customer service & prices Cons: none! more
