Raising Cane's - Chicken Fingers Are an Art Here 8/6/2006

Raising Cane's does one thing, and does it stunningly well. Chicken fingers. Yes, chicken fingers. According to their website, they start with fresh chicken tenderloins - not frozen - and marinate them for at least 24 hours. According to my taste buds, that's true. The chicken is then battered by hand, and fried up piping hot and fresh with a side of Cane's Sauce. While the chicken fingers are tasty, and obviously premium white chicken meat, it's the Cane's sauce that will keep you coming back for more. I'm sure the ingredients of the sauce are secret, but I'll take a guess that it's a combination of primarily mayonnaise, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Whatever it is, it's fantastic, and you'll soon find yourself craving it. If you don't, though, you can also request honey mustard sauce. The menu features only four combos - three are chicken finger meals, and the other a chicken finger sandwich meal. All meals come with Cane's crinkle fries, coleslaw, Texas toast, and a drink. The crinkle fries are always golden and crispy, with a tender - and very hot - inside. (In fact, I suspect that they make the fries fresh with each order, as well.) The coleslaw is crispy, but in my opinion, a bit bland, with none of the sweetness of, say, KFC's coleslaw. The Texas toast is grilled on one side to a crunchy, garlic butter perfection. Drinks are the usual offering of Coke products, with two standout beverages: sweet tea and fresh lemonade. I've never tried the lemonade, although my daughter assures me it's excellent, but the sweet tea is smooth and mellow, if perhaps a tad too sweet. The location that I frequent is located at 1201 Westheimer, on the south side of Westheimer between Dairy Ashford and Kirkwood roads. Although they have a dining room, I've always used the drive-through. The service has always been exceptionally pleasant, fast, and the food fresh and hot. more
