Piper Down an Olde World Pub 10/18/2009

The bar name is Piper Down an Olde World Pub. They just finished a 2000 square foot expansion to include a second bar called the Temple Bar and a heated and air conditioned patio where they send the smokers. There are no more membership laws so they are open to the public. Pros: An escape from Utah Cons: None more

very down to earth place 3/23/2009

it is a nice place to go to and have a drink during the week or on weekends. if you come before 10pm and its not too crouded you can enjoy a mellow evening, but even when it gets loud and crouded it is still a great place to grab a beer and get togther with your buddies. Pros: good service food and beer Cons: none more

Illegal to Drink Before Entering This Bar? 6/8/2008

A few of my friends joined me in Salt Lake at my family's condo from which we ventured downtown to the Desert Edge Brew Pub for a nice dinner and a few glasses of beer. We then hailed a taxi and decided to try out the Piper Down for a change of scenery. Upon arriving via taxi, the doorman assumed we were blasted and refused to let us in. His comment: "You guys have been drinking. We can't let you in". Imagine that - Saturday night at 9:30 and we had the tenacity to show up at a bar with a beer buzz. more

Hands Down The Best Bar in SLC 11/4/2007

Piper Down is the best run bar in SLC, hands down. It is obvious that the management hires and trains top staff, and they are always pleasant and attentive. The food is above average for pub fare and the crowd tends to be cool and relaxed. It seems like the douchy types now frequent another bar about a mile north, so that's awesome also. Pros: Awesome staff and ownership Cons: None! more

great time 10/21/2005

Went to the piper down and had a great time, cool crowd and a cool staff! a must for everyone. more

Not worth the time 10/14/2005

This place is horrible. the staff is rude and can't serve or make a drink. the crowd is ugly and dumb i would not go here if it was the only bar in salt lake city more

A must on St Patrick's day (get there early!) 6/21/2005

This is an authentic looking pub, which it great because it's casual and relaxed without a 'meat market' feel that most bars of this caliber have. Dave has a nack for lining up great bands, so if you're looking for a real fun time, pay the bar a visit when King's Irish or Wicked Tinkers are on the bill, you'll swear you were in the old country, and the place just hops! Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff is ever so friendly, so don't put it off any long, go! Now! Pros: atmosphere, friendly staff, clean Cons: crowded at times, that's it. more

nice crowd, friendly atmosphere 3/16/2005

im a "real" irishman! actually im from dublin and this place is the best "irish" bar i've been to. very nice atmosphere, prity trendy but relaxed crowd, good live music on thursday. the decor is really nice. only downside is it can get a bit crowded on weekends, even though its a big bar. Pros: crowd, chicks, decor Cons: crowded more

SLC has needed this for a long time! 1/14/2004

Wow! Salt Lake City has needed a place like this for a long time! It's got the class of Port O Call without the cheese. And the bathrooms are gorgeous! The bar is nicely renovated and the crowd is great - classy but not stuffy. Basically, this is the most down-to-earth bar in the valley. And the staff is great. They'll remember your face, and probably even your name! The first time I came to Piper Down, I was very impressed and knew I'd be back again and again. more

one cool club 4/23/2003

The piper down is a new Irish pub in town and I must say that it is the most enjoyable bar I think that I have ever been to. They have rentivated the building so that it is both classy and yet comfertable. It got nice high ceilings wich makes the smoke very easy to deal with and they are starting to line up acoustic music which has been a blast both to play and listen to. Pros: great atmosphere, cool folks, comfortable hangout more

Editorial
  • The Scene
While the name comes from the popular Scottish phrase coined by Mike Myers in "So I Married an Axe Murderer," the theme at Piper Down is full-on Irish. From the smiling glass leprechaun at the door to the painting on the wall asking "Dart for a Guinness?" it's obvious there's a deep-rooted--and authentic--Fenian cultural element within the old brick walls. On any given night, it's normal to see a group of lads wearing kilts and sharing stories about the old country.

    The Draw
With two full-size pool tables, a 12-foot big screen and ample room left over for feasting on pub favorites like fried halibut or salmon, both served with greasy chips (fries) and coleslaw, it's no wonder this place immediately developed a devout following. Brunch is offered on Sundays, including a bloody mary bar. Wednesdays, open-mic night features mostly acoustic performers. When there's not live entertainment, the jukebox is always cranking out familiar tunes.
