Quality product a bit pricey but well worth it.

My wife and I used to be in sales, so we understand the "salesman tactics." However, spending over 6 hours in our home was excessive. This included some small talk, negotiation, e...

So so product, not worth hassle 4/8/2011

We had already decided we wanted the windows before our sales visit and he still insisted on spending 4 hours, not leaving until 11pm. The windows seem okay, but are not the quality I expected for the amount we paid. The corner trim that frames one of the glass panes has a gap because the factory didn't properly match two 45 degree angles together. The installers would only hide it with caulking because it was a "cosmetic" issue. The installation crew left my cabinets full of sawdust and left my window boxes with ugly quarter inch gaps in the trim. They were supposed to fix these last time they came out to repair a pane that cracked inexplicably. My complaint is that we scheduled the visit so they could take care of all the repairs at once and I wouldn't have to re-arrange my schedule twice for repairs. The visit was delayed so they could have all the materials ready to go. The day of the appointment, the repair guy apologized because he was on his own and could only replace the cracked pane. He promised he would have scheduling call to arrange the rest. Nobody called in the following week. We went on vacation. Now I'm calling and leaving messages and have not received a call back for a week. I would like this finished. Our installation was in November and it is April and they still haven't fixed this. Customers should not have to call repeatedly to have what they paid for completed in a timely manner. These windows better insulate from summer heat as advertised or they will have no redeeming qualities left. We won't buy windows from them again. more

Only a fool would buy these widows 3/18/2011

I'm not saying that the windows are bad, by all accounts they look like top of line vinyl windows. The problem is that they are a high pressure sales company that charges an exorbitant price for them. Buying windows from them is akin to buying a vacuum cleaner from a door to door sales man. You may get a good vacuum, but was it really worth $2000 dollars, and where the sales man pockets half of that? You can get good energy star vinyl windows with lifetime guarantees for most houses for less than 10 grand (maybe a lot less) but with Penguin, you will pay 40-50 grand. There is no way these are worth that much, and no way they will ever pay for themselves, do the math. It'd take 50 years for these to pay for themselves. And if you have that kind of money to spend on windows, wouldn't you go with a all wood designer window from a company like Andersen or Pella? I knew pretty quick that these guys are just a big scam when we also quoted that they could add a Corrian bottom to a Garden window for just $700 dollars more. Really! is that all. A piece of Corrian for about $200 dollars a sf. Wow what a deal, I can just imagine what the over all markup they have for theses over priced windows. Stay away, and save a lot of money. more

windows and patio door 1/28/2011

Good: The product has lived up to its hype as to sound deading and draft protection immedately. The products are new and we have yet to get a comparable bill from our electric company. I believe that they will cut our power uasage as we were told.. Bad: Initial price is high but as long as the lifetime warranty is in effect this will pay for its self over time. We are planning on being here for a long time. The price for most people is the deciding factor but as the old saying goes "you get what you pay for".. Improvements: unknown. Other: The sale people are very knowledgeable about their products and seem to believe in the product very much. The install crew was fantastic with the job they did and how they treated our home. I am very happy as of now with the look and installation of all of the windows and the patio door. Our installation was installed in an as new type of constuction and not the regular replacement castment type, ours had installation fins. The jobe was done in the proper time frame as we were told.. more

Penguin Windows 1/12/2011

All I'm going to say is WOW, for those that had great the great sales teams and installers, I know I was one of them but I've noticed a trend now on Judy's book and that is someone is clicking that good comments weren't helpful which tells me that there is someone who isn't happy with the company (sorry but it happens), I also noticed that for every great comment left by a customer there were several negative comments left. Must be hard to be filled with all that hate for a company! more

Windows Installation Update 1/12/2011

Sales Team was not pushy and showed integrity and honesty. I'm sorry the rest of you didn't get my sales team! The installation for 10 windows to include two sliders took three days and they were short handed for 1.5 days. The windows are terrific, the installers are some of the best and my windows look good from the inside and the outside. more

Shane's Review 12/3/2010

The windows speak for themselves, they are excelent. The crew that installed them were the best. They were professional, had a great sense of humor, handled measurement errors (issues) to my satisfaction (not the easy way out), and they were great about cleaning up. It was a two day job and during the 1st night I could already hear the noise reduction. Now that the snow and ice have hit, I appreciate the thermal efficiency. Thanks!!! more

Fact Check 12/2/2010

I was asked to verify the reviews for penguin windows and it appears to be you either love them or hate them. We had our sales reps come by to look at our problem window only to discover that the previous owner hadn't had his replacement windows done correctly. We hadn't noticed it because we have been working on all the other deferred maintenance in the house and yard. I will state that we didn't feel pressured, the quality of how they were made was impressive. We purchased them for the entire house not just the one window, so I will wait to see how the install goes and how well they work. more

Love the Windows 10/17/2010

We installed the windows in two phases. The first was on the main floor 3 years ago and the rest of the house was just installed 2 weeks ago. We love the windows. Penguin did a fantastic job with no problems. I believe we had 25 windows of every type and 3 sliding doors. It was not inexpensive but worth it. There were some problems with the trim on the original windows but Penguin cheerfully fixed them to our satifaction. All the windows look great. The colored trim really dresses up the exterior looks of the house. We could not be more pleased. Good job Penguin. Van and Rosemary McKenny more

By far the best 10/12/2010

Penguin Windows provided an in depth presentation of their product. I didn't feel pressured. I was kept updated in the progress of their construction. On installation their staff was courteous to the nines, clean and neat at the close of the day, thorough and quick. I did the house project over two years because of the price but it was well worth it. Even with the power price increases my utilities are down 40%. more

Impressed! 9/13/2010

Good: we were very impressed with the installation of the windows. The workers were proffessional ,quick, and very neat, covering furniture in rooms while working and cleaning up afterwards. Looking foward to seeing the energy saving this next winter. we like the looks of our new windows, although they do make the windows smaller. The quality is superior to other windows we looked at. The product sold itself!. Bad: The price was very high. This was really our only complaint.. Improvements: can't think of any.. Other: we are happy with our new windows.Penquin Windows was a very proffessional company.. more

As a previous employee.. 9/1/2010

I worked for Penguin Windows as a sales rep. (I sold quite a bit actually, and I QUIT...was not fired.) What an embarrassing job! We were yelled at by the "manager on duty" when we didn't pressure folks into buying windows. As terrible as I feel about it, I sold 22K worth of windows (in penguin pricing, probley 8k worth anywhere else) to an old lady who was on a fixed income. When the sales rep comes into your home they start with the script they call "the agenda". Every employee is required to memorize it word-for-word when in the first week of training. You'll notice it when they start with "So, did the person who set up the appointment over the phone explain what we'll be covering during your visit today? " (you say no, not really)..."well, here in about 2 minutes Ill have you quickly walk the house with me to do an energy inspection on your windows.." more

Comfurtable at last 8/23/2010

We love our windows very much. Our AC can finally do it's job and we don't have some rooms that are freezing and others that are blazing hot. We don't mind the summer heat anymore! We also have noticed that our home is quieter and we are looking forward to testing them out in the winter months coming up. more

Window Installation 8/17/2010

The installation process was done quickly, efficiently, and professionally. Eric and Andrew were kind, respectful and did an excellent job. The day the windows were being installed was a very hot day. I noticed a difference immediately and every day since that our house is much cooler. I love our new windows. more

Penguin Repeat Customer 8/14/2010

I would highly recommend Penguin Windows if you are in the market for window replacement. We have used them twice (six windows last year and four this year) and couldn't be happier with the results. The entire process, from the in-home estimate to installation (two weeks early on both occasions), the customer service was fantastic. The installers were so thorough they provided new outside window trim where necessary (ours was rotten) and even built a new roof where we replaced a fully glass garden window with a bay window. We have also noticed a marked decrease in our energy bills and are extremely pleased with the product. more

Be Careful with Penguin Windows 8/14/2010

Penguin Windows has an D+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and 49 complaints as of August-- this is what is says in part on the BBB site "BBB has received a pattern of complaints regarding high pressure sales tactics, and agressive door-to-door solicitation and presentations. Consumers claim that they agree to receive an estimate and the representative may spend hours in their home pressuring them into a purchase" Also Penguin recently settled a suit with the Attorney Generals office over misrepresentation and false claims: See http://www.komonews.com/news/consumer/86025767.html or google "Penguin Windows Attorney General" more

Great Service 8/11/2010

In this day of below average customer service, dealing with Penguin Windows was a wonderful new experience. From the estimate process through the installation the service could not have been better. All questions were answered, the entire process was explained, the window actually arrived sooner than expected, and the installation crew was courteous, professional and knew what they were doing. We could not have been happier with our window or our dealings with Penguin. And, to top it off, my living room looks great with it's brand new window! more

Penguin Windows 8/10/2010

We have 14 windows now installed over 3 visits this year and are very satified. The installers Eric & Andrew were great to deal with and did a wonderful job.The windows really have changed the look of our 24 yr old house inside & out and are working super for keeping the heat out.The quality is worth the price. Our sales rep, Ashley, really knew her stuff. We were inpressed with everyone we came into contact with.Great Job All - Eve in Washougal,Wa more

Penguin Windows Experience 7/29/2010

Good: The call came the windows were rcvd & installation was the next day.(2 windows, 2 flrs) Half a day with installers Andrew & Eric. (8AM). Bad: My contact with the installers was all positive from the early morning greet to the 'enjoy ur Penguin windows'. Other: Wih our hse facing N, the hi temp is late in the day from the west. We beat the heat the day of the installation. Thanx to Jordan for the hook-up and Congrats to Tony!!. more

Striving for Perfection 7/27/2010

Good: The windows are beautiful and seem to be doing well their job of insulation. The company shows its interest in customer service by responding promptly, personally, and courteously to questions and issues.. Bad: The windows are REALLY expensive, but I'm not having buyer's remorse. At that price, I expected absolute perfection on the day of installation. I was disappointed. There were nicks and a little bit of mess that should have been taken care of. However, a guy was sent out promptly to fix things, and after him a crew to thoroughly fix the major outstanding flaw. Windows are perfect now. Salesmen somewhat misrepresented the manufacturer's warranty and the material of the windows.. Improvements: Salesmen should explain the manufacturer's warranty accurately and distinguish it from the unwritten warranty/policy of Penguin. They should admit to the windows being vinyl, distinguishing them if appropriate from other vinyl windows. Installers seemed a little pushed for time. Our job was a tad more than 1 day's work, which may explain the imperfections left. Incentives should be given for achieving perfection even if it means another hour on a long day or coming back another day.. Other: The windows are beautiful and perform as represented so far. Even though the manufacturer's warranty is not as generous as represented, Penguin's policy of customer satisfaction seems sincerely and effectively implemented and supplements the manufacturer's warranty effectively. I hope Penguin management continues this policy throughout the years. I am so far content with what I've purchased (2 large slider windows, 1 slider door, 1 casement window)--I think the money was well spent.. more
