Complete Rip-Off 12/30/2010

After being burdened by unnecessary testing on our dogs for 8 years, we finally found a great vet and left this one. Now, 2 years later we get nailed again in an emergency situation! My husband had to take one dog in since this is the closest vet to the house and the dog was having multiple seisures. $400 later, we spent $218 on the actual seisure-related testing and the rest on heartworm, fecal, and cataract testing! My husband did not understand what he was agreeing to when advised of these tests by the vet, he just wanted the dog treated for its immediate problems. I am shocked that a vet would take advantage of a pet owner this way. more

Thank you Oaks-- 8/27/2010

I adopted a cute little puppy from Oaks about a month ago and I am so happy. I appreciate all the care that Oscar and I received from Dr. Wallace and Dr. Hamerslag. They were so thorough and caring. Thank you Oaks... I appreciate it and will continue to bring my little Oscar Myer Weiner to your hospital. more

Excellent vet hospital for all your pet's health care needs. 1/28/2010

I take my dog here once a year for a general check up. They are a one stop shop, they check everything, including dental issues. The staff and vets are nice, friendly and always willing to address any and all questions and concerns. I also appreciate how the vet gives me preventative tips, and suggests great over the counter products for exceptional grooming. I recommend them to anyone. more

Spend waaayyy too much money with them. 12/14/2009

I've been taking animals to Oaks for about 12 years. For years I've been feeling like a bad "mommy" to my animals as I don't always buy every little thing they want me to get. I just left there today with another $420 out of my pocket. I've never had issues with poor attitudes or treatment, and the vets ARE good, but they definitely push the bottom line...$$$$. I've got another vet that I am taking our newest puppy to, and she will be getting all of my business from now on. more

Wonderful place 10/25/2008

If it was not for the wonderful staff at Oaks Veterinary Hospital I may have lost my best friend. During a routine semi-annual visit the doctors noticed a heart problem that could have been life threatening in my 6 year old bulldog. I took him to a board certified cardiologist who confirmed the problem. Several of my friends have already switched. Thank You OAKS!! more

Confused by negative reviews. 3/28/2008

We moved to Gainesville less than 1 year ago, and have been taking our 2 cats to this vet. We've had several issues - one cat had crystals/blockage 3 times, the other cat had a mass growing on his side. In all cases Dr. Hammerslag was very thorough and professional. She gave me tons of detailed info about what could cause the mass on my cat, and the scientific basis behind each of the tests that were going to be performed. She personally called me to let me know the results of the tests and to explain them to me. She called me several times to make sure that a message left on our home answering machine was received. I was never pressured to purchase any sort of package. I would highly recommend this vet.\r \r For the negative review people - if you thought that this vet was overcharging and pressuring, why didn't you go get a second opinion before continuing to spend money?? more

Horrible money-grubbing atrocity 12/7/2007

First off, I don't believe the aforementioned positive reviews (ie. Oaks Commercials) are real at all. I'd be willing to bet my remaining pet that these were put up by the staff themselves. This is a completely unethical practice with a rodent infestation and is not associated with the American Animal Hospital Association due to its non-compliance with its high quality standards, hygiene, cleanliness, and ethics. My healthy cat died under anesthesia due to incompetence and negligence and I was still charged for the visit - simply went home in tears, missing a good chunk of my paycheck and my entire cat. You're better off taking your pet to Michael Vick's house. At least when it dies, you won't be stuck with a $900 bill. more

Money Money Money Money Money 8/18/2007

I adopted a dog from a shelter at 8 weeks old. We brought her in for a routine check up and right away the vets office was in our faces to buy a puppy package. After that, my puppy would not eat so we brought her in and they ordered emergency x-rays and so forth, and they could not figure out the problem, therefor costing us over $500.00. Then my puppy was seen for more check ups and was sent home with a handful of useless medication that cost us over $100.00 that cured NOTHING. We asked how much each medication would cost and was given a guilt trip for asking such a question. My puppy has been to Oaks Animal Hospital over 10 times and we clearly spent close to 3000 dollars! I would not recommend this guilt giving Vet office to you. more

All about money... 8/14/2007

This animal hospital is one of the worst I've been to. I used to work there. They try to sell packages and make a buck off every single procedure... try to make you meet sales goals. I remember one time a client was protesting a charge and was taken in the room to talk to a vet. That person left buying even MORE stuff. They are crafty sales people! I was very disgusted with their practice and was happy to turn in my resignation. more

Wonderful, caring people at Oaks Veterinary Hospital 11/28/2005

The folks at Oaks Veterinary Hospital are wonderful! Recently I found a kitten in a parking lot and took her in for a check-up. She had a number of ailments. The veterinarian prescribed medications and now she is healthy, happy cat with silky fur and beautiful bright eyes. The veterinarians and the technicians love for their furry patients is evident. They remembered my cat when I came in for a second visit. Other great attributes are a seperate entrance for cats, boarding availability and payment plans. I highly recommend Oaks Veterinary Hospital! more

Great place to take your pet 11/14/2005

Dr Kaplan-Stein and staff are great. I took 2 of my dogs there from puppy to adult hood. They offer puppy packages with discounts on shots and all the other "fun" stuff that puppies require. They offer boarding and have extended hours for early/late pickup or drop off. The prices are reasonable. It's easy to find and there is lots of parking. They treat you like a member of the family. more
