Tours tailored for lodges, camps and a variety of groups are set in Grand Mesa National Forest, which offers 20 kilometers of trails all free.
Four main trails are available:
Mesa Lakes Lodge: A 4- to 5-kilometer trail at 9,200 feet. A Sno-Cat on the property sets the skating tracks.
Skyway: Twelve kilometers of trail, the longest and highest at 10,800 feet.
County Line: A wilderness experience at 10,600 feet with no set track. The U.S. Forest Service occasionally sets the trails.
Ward Trail System: A 5-kilometer trail of set track from 9,500 to 10,200 feet.
Because of the high elevation of Grand Mesa, there's good snow early and late in the season. Lodges and cabins are available in the area. Visitors can arrange their rentals at the base of Grand Mesa at various shops and lodges; rentals also are available at Skyway. Tours for children and adults are options, typically running a half-day.
