Kind, Caring and Busy 5/19/2007

I've been using MPH since 1987 and have never had anything but great care for cats and dogs both current and dearly departed. I just called them on a Saturday, late afternoon (one of their busiest times), to ask a question about guidelines for introducing a new puppy to an established dog, including questions about the immunization status of the older dog. I did have to wait on hold for a few minutes - but not long. Without hesitating the person on the phone looked up our records, asked good questions about how the older dog interacts with other dogs, etc. This was just a small example of the interactions I've had with both staff and doctors at MPH for the past 20 years. Yes, they're busy - probably because they do great work - but they really do care! Pros: A few spots in a small lot a block away. Cons: It's Valencia street - need I say more? more

Busy, but Caring Practice 12/13/2006

I took my cat to Mission Pet Hospital for about four years. The vets always took a lot of time to explain things to me, in terms I could understand well enough to make decisions (I wish my own doctors were that good about explaining what was going on). The first time I brought him in spotted a heart condition in my cat, for which we successfully treated him for several years. Dr. Jennifer Scarlett had to deliver to me the sad news that he had terminal lymphoma, and did a great job of laying out the options, from kitty chemotherapy (which was unlikely to succeed), to more palliative treatment. She obviously cared a lot, and returned several phone calls about the treatment decisions. \r \r I saw that some other reviewers mentioned issues with the receptionists being busy or nonattentive. Busy wouldn't surprise me, but I always found the people behind the desk very conscientious - just occasionally overwhelmed by the many pet owners who definitely gravitate towards this hospital. Pros: Caring approach` Cons: Can be busy more

Great Vets, Great Staff 9/11/2006

My dog has been a (patient) for over 3 years. She has been given excellent care! All the vets are top notch! The staff is friendly and very pet smart! I have never been over charged and feel that the staff and vets really care about my pet. Pros: good value great staff Cons: busy more

Great first time visit 4/9/2006

They got me in immediately for my sick puppy. Staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. It was very clean, and the vet was nice, efficient and helpful. They didn't overcharge me, I am SO glad we went. more

best care during difficult time 1/25/2006

I had an emergency with my small dog, and could not have been more satisfied and comforted by the people I dealt with at Mission Pet Hospital. They were crowded, yet took the time to explain to me what was happening with my dog. It turned out not to be life threatening, and my dog was sent home with me with some medication and instructions. I could not have been happier with the staff, or the final bill for that matter. I will be bringing my kitty here from now on, too! Great place...in my humble opinion. Pros: caring staff, no un-needed charges Cons: busy more

Horrible Horrible Horrible!!! 12/28/2005

I called and made an appointment, which was an difficult. The girl on the phone was more interested in laughing with her co-workers than helping me. When I arrived 2 of of the so called receptionists were too busy in their conversation to even notice someone had come in. I never made it to my appointment, as while I was waiting, the same two receptionists started going over how much marijuana one wanted to purchase from the other. After hearing that I decided this was not a place I wanted to leave my pet at. I guess if you don't mind your pets being taken care of by a bunch of potheads, then this place is fine. more

Horrible Care. 12/1/2005

In trying to book an appointment for a dog with a chronic health problem, I was told in a very rude manner that I was not allowed to speak to a vet until my dog had a chart and was an established patient. I have a puppy with a chronic condition, and an acute problem. The rude desk person refused to listen to my questions which would have maximized my upcomming visit there. The vets are supposed be great, but the front desk is rude, unprofessional, and not geared toward patient care. more

Great vets, confused staff 10/27/2005

Vets are great with my pet, but I got billed for a procedure I didn't order, and had a confusing time straightening out my bill. They really need to computerize. more

3-year client 10/10/2005

I've taken my dog here regularly, and everything's always been smooth; the vets always take the time to answer all my questions, and have referred me to excellent specialists when needed (my dog had major leg surgery). No complaints here! Pros: friendly, caring, efficient Cons: crowded, paper records (not PC more

Long time client 7/17/2005

The staff and vets at MPH have always been consistently kind, courteous and professional, and helped me through a very difficult time with my old cat. more

Dog Owner 6/24/2005

Did not keep track of all procedures resulting in a duplicate shot. The staff is nice, but seem out of it at times. It is very difficult or impossible to get an emergency appointment. more

Not worth the Headache 5/12/2005

If a vet at mph recommends an expensive procedure, get a second opinion first. I unfortunately didn't and a different vet at mph told me it wasn't necessary. But if you and your pet need extra stress in your life this is the perfect vet for you! more
