A Visit to the Mesa Arts Center 4/25/2011

We all know what an important part the arts are to our society, providing both creativity and entertainment to the masses, bringing people from all ranks of society in to one group, creating what some may refer to as culture. The Mesa Arts Center is located in a beautiful area, full of history but a lack of high reputation. Although, what the area lacks in reputation, the Mesa Arts Center makes up for it. It is a beautiful modernistic building; with the Ikeda theatre rising above all other, towering over the dark streets of down town Mesa, acting as a focal point for the neighborhood, drawing your eyes towards it. Having very limited experience with classical music I decided I wanted to go outside the boundaries of my own personal interests, but to still stay within my own comfort zone. I decided that my first ever visit to the Mesa Arts Center would be to Video Games Live. As the name might reveal it is video game music, live, combining my biggest leisurely interests in to one show and as I hoped, it did not disappoint me. As I entered the door of this magnificent building I was instantly greeted by a lady working there that took great care in making sure I ended up at my seat, provided with a program of the show and that I did not need anything else. I had a seat at the second level, mid row, one seat away from the railing and I must say the view was great. And since the Ikeda theatre is big but not huge, I could see everything that was happening on stage and since visual elements was greatly involved in the performance that was important, to me at least. They played songs from many of my personal favorite video games from growing up, such as Zelda, Mario and Pac Man World. Going to this show brought back memories that are invoked purely by auditory and visual means, not by actually playing the game which is a completely different experience on its own. All in all my experience with the Mesa Arts Center was absolutely perfect, a place where people from all walks of life can congregate among shared interests. Since art plays such a major role in our lives, so does the local arts venues and when we have such a great venue of our own here in Mesa, take the opportunity to visit it, whether it would be visual arts or music that seems more interesting to you. I am glad I did and I will definitely be coming back, pushing the boundaries of my own comfort zone. more
