Our History
Mecca Coffee Company opened in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1921. Roasting coffee and grinding spices is how it started. Blocks away, the aroma of coffee, cinnamon, and chilies would fill the downtown streets. Today we are still serving customers who remember entering the store as children with their parents, and they say the aroma is still the same. Although some things have changed, olive and pickle barrels are no longer available, and we no longer roast our Tulsa coffee in house, we have managed to entice more customers with the additions of home beer and wine making supplies, a humidor for the cigar aficionado, cookware, cutlery, and kitchen gadgets for the beginner and the professional chef. We have managed to provide quality products and service to our customers for many years; and yes, the aroma is still here. The large selection of gourmet coffee, tea, and spices is what creates this unique and enticing smell.
Having had several owners and occupied four different locations, Mecca found its home in the heart of Tulsa Brookside, and this has been our home for over 25 years. Midtown, the place to be, and Brookside is where you will discover a small-town feel with a diverse mix, including locally owned restaurants, clothing, gift, and furniture stores, art galleries, and an eclectic group of people of all ages.
