Maureen's Gourmet Bakery

I found this place on Google and decided to order my daughters bday cake from there based on the Google reviews. There was only one negattive review from Thao in Sep 2010 and unfortunately I ignored it and had the same experience that person had. I ordered a half sheet strawberry cake with buttercream icing for $57. Nobody at the party liked it. The icing was not buttercream. The cake was white with tiny flecks of strawberry in it. We took 3/4 of the cake back today and he told us this is their version of a strawberry cake with buttercream icing. Really?? He wouldnt even entertain the idea that maybe he could do something to satisfy us. He kept defending the cake and saying that the owner would have to come in and taste it. He even suggested that we should have interrupted the party on Saturday and immediately returned the cake. We had already prepaid $35 for 20 cupcakes to be prepared the same as the cake so we cancelled the order for Thursday and left the cake sitting on their counter. Customer Service at this place is horrible. And for a ""gourmet"" bakery to put out that type of quality is ridiculous. Albertson's is more gourmet than this place. more

I purchased 30 cupcakes from Maureen's for my daughter's 5th birthday. No one would give me honest feedback on tha cakes at the party so I tasted one when I got home. I was thoroughly disappointed, b/c the marble and white cupcakes were extremely ""dry"" after I spent over $50 on them. I called and the employee who answered the phone was appropriate and listened to my concerns and told me that she would have the owner call me back. When Maureen called she was rude and unprofessional. I told her that I had recently bought 30 cupcakes from Sam's for $14 dollars that were moist and fresh and her pricey cupcakes were horrible. I asked her if they had been made days prior. She proceeded to tell me that she had baked 300 cupcakes for one event and 90 for another. She stated ""I know my cupcakes are not dry"" She stated that she had been in business for over 10 years and she has never had a complaint. I told her that I didn't care about anyone else, but that she had ruined my daughter's b-day and she said ""well don't use me anymore"". Piss poor cupcakes and piss poor customer service!!! more

Cakes are mediocre and customer service is awful! Don't go unless you want to overpay for a cake that you could have gotten better at HEB. I went back to tell them I was unhappy with the cake and the owner's response was that they have been in business over 9 years so their cakes SIMPLY couldn't be anything but delicious. more
