Worst

The worst salmon and halibut I have had since I partook of the school lunch program in junior high. I would rather order fish sticks at McDonalds for a dfew bucks than pay the $12...

Worst food and most overrated restaurant in Salt Lake City 2/14/2009

This restaurant is very expensive and has the worse food I have ever eaten. Aside from the house clam chowder, which is good, the house wine is boxed and the food is terrible. I paid $70.00 for two and I could have received better food in Wendover (and I hate Wendover). There was a long black hair laying on the end of our table which the waitress refused to acknowledge and the mixed seafood salad is gross. I am just warning everyone before they go here and spend an outrageous fortune. McGrath's Fish house tops this by 100% and is 1/2 the price. They don't even know what a lobster roll is. Don't waste your money. Pros: Food is horrible Cons: There was nothing good about my experience more

Poor Service, Unsanitary conditions 3/1/2008

I was so badly disappointed with the food and service today at this Market Street location that I had to write a few words about it. I have been going to Gastronomy restaurants for over 20 years--what happened??\r My husband and I had lunch--we ate at the bar but it took 20 minutes to get served a drink. I had a glass of red wine that must have been kept in a chiller--it was freezing. My husband ordered a sandwich with fries-the fries didn't come out with our lunch order and the waiter promised to retirieve them a soon as he could. Guess what-we were done eating and still no fries. Also, in the bar food prep area, the house salad that was being served came from a metal bin overflowing onto a dirty counter -- this was actually being served to patrons in the restaurant. No one in this food prep area was wearing gloves but handling food (bread, soup, salad, etc. I can only imagaine what the kitchen must be like. Sorry, there are so many other restaurant choices in the Salt Lake area - I will not be visiting a Market Street for a very long time. Cons: Poor Service, Unsanitary food prep area more

A disappointment 10/16/2007

The worst salmon and halibut I have had since I partook of the school lunch program in junior high. I would rather order fish sticks at McDonalds for a dfew bucks than pay the $120.00 (for four) last night. Pros: Appetizers good Cons: Main course bad more

HUGH DISAPPOINTMENT 8/13/2007

What a disappointment! I've been eating at Gastronomy restaurants for many years and they have all gone down hill so bad... I've eaten there for the last time. My recent visit included a bottle of red wine too warm to drink, lobster served luke warm and king crab legs that had been boiled (water was dripping from them). The service was terrible although I don't think it was the waiter's fault. He seemed to be running from table to table. What used to be a truly memorable dining experience is now over priced, poorly cooked food with a disappointing menu. Many of the best dishes have been removed from the menu's, butter is served melted rather than over ice, and disinterested management are a few of the changes. This restaurant is way overpriced for the quality of food and service!\r more

Cannot recommend, not a good value for the money 7/6/2007

A large group of us went to MSB and ordered various dishes including Grilled Salmon, Seafood Salad, Crab Cakes etc. Although the ambiance was excellent, the service was slow and the food did not meet our expectations. My Seafood salad portion was too small, the crab cakes overcooked, and the Salmon lacked a smooth rich flavor to name a few examples. Unfortunately our meal started off with a lackluster serving of stuffed mushrooms. They tasted too greasy, didn't taste fresh, and lacked a good mixture of textures and flavors that one would expect. We wouldn't go back knowing we could have this same experience again. Pros: ambience Cons: food, prices, service more

DIRTY, RUDE SERVICE, FLIES DINING ON THE SALAD BAR WHO WERE ALSO IGNORED 8/4/2006

First, my wife and I walked in and noticed that the same dumb hostess from Baci got transfered to the Broiler when Gastronomy closed and sold Baci. The place was packed on that Friday night. We found two spots at the bar, of which other people had just left. We sat there for 10-15 minutes waiting someone to clean the area so that we could lean our arms on was was a filthy bar. No one cleaned it, and no one even knew we were there. I could of cleaned out the cash register and no one would of cared. Then a bar waiter asked what he could get for us, and we had to tell him that we needed the bar cleaned, clean plates, clean silverware, clean napkins, and last but not least-menus. My wife asked for these items, and he threw three menus at her. Prior to this point, due to the filth in front of us, the flies that got to dine for free, and the bad service, I was ready to get out of there. One more thing--they even ignored the flies behind the counter dining at the salad station!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Upscale, outdoor dining 7/7/2004

We hit this place at lunchtime - managed to get a table on the patio and had a delightful if not hurried experience. The food is fresh, tasty, expensive, the service average. The old firehouse atmosphere is unique and their display of counter items (fish, bread, desserts) was crowded but impressive. Eat here just a bit early for lunch and you'll have a more relaxing time. Pros: atmosphere, location, food Cons: , busy place, prices more

Going downhill....a huge disappointment. 6/11/2004

Service was poor, the server made a mistake and brought an incorrect dish. The correct one appeared very quickly....perhaps they no longer cook to order. The manager was rude and unapologetic. A totally unpleasant experience. Cons: , Poor Service, High Prices more

Bad Attitudes Go Home! 12/12/2003

Those who have nothing nice to say can stay away. Leaves more for the rest of us. The food is wonderful and I've never had bad service here. Waiters are willing to answer questions and work hard to make it enjoyable. Try the Grilled Halibut Oscar or the Macadamia Crusted Grouper. The clam chowder is excellent. For dessert, our favorite is the Zabaglione or the Raspberry Almond Torte. This place is one of our favorites. Pros: food, service more

Great food 12/26/2002

The food was wonderful. The screwdrivers were fresh squeezed. The atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. Our waitress however didnt speak english and brought and charged us for an appetizer we didnt order and instead of main lobster I was given an Australian lobster tail. It cost us $40.00 more than we had budgeted to make up for the language barrier though.... Pros: food, family Cons: cost more

NOT JUST GREAT SEAFOOD 10/31/2002

THE BROILER HAS GREAT FOOD, FRIENDLY SERVICE AND REASONABLE PRICES. I LOVE THERE STEAKS AND RIBS. THE EARLY BIRD SPECIAL IS GREAT. YOU CAN GET OUT PRETTY CHEEP. GOOD WINE SELECTION PRICED RIGHT. THE MARTINIS ARE AWSOME! THE NEW DINNER SPECIALS ARE A GREAT VALUE. Pros: GOOD VALUE, GOOD FOOD, GOOD SERVICE more

One Of Our Long Time Favorites 10/31/2002

We've Been Eating and Bying Fresh Fish at The Market Street Broiler for Many Years. It Just Keeps Getting Better. Check Out There Wine List, Wow What a Selection and Fair Prices too. The Lobster and steak combo is to die for. Pros: fresh food, friendly service, great decore more

Best Seafood in SLC 10/30/2002

When I have a choice, I always go to the Broiler. The food is the best in SLC. Try the Clam Chowder, I have never had better. more

Are we rating barbecue? or what? 10/25/2002

The broiler is far from being the best barbecue in town. When was the last time you went to Market Street Broiler thinking, I want their great barbecue? Please don't rate a restaurant and write reviews talking about the fish. Fish is not barbecue. more

Misleading rating 9/18/2002

While I enjoy the Market Street Broiler, I suspect your ratings are inaccurate. A top ranking for best barbecue, best coffee, best breakfast, etc. cannot be correct; they aren't even opened for breakfast, don't serve barbeque and are not a coffee house. Either someone ""stuffed the ballot box"" or your rating system is flawed. more

Not a great place to go 9/3/2002

Not a great place to go if you're looking for fresh fish prepared to enhance its flavor. I found most of the dishes to be overcooked and loaded with butter. Perhaps it was to hide the second rate fish they serve. Of course, I'm from the East coast and the seafood there is very fresh, so I could be a bit spoiled. However, I found the food at the New Yorker to be quite better, although it is a little pricier. more

It's Like eating in a Boat 8/29/2002

I ate dinner in the upstairs dineing room last night the first time I've been there in awhile and the wood everywhere gave me the feeling I was in a ships dineing room. The fish was fresh too.Very Good. Pros: Beautiful Dineing Roo Cons: needs more parking more

Can you say ""over rated""? 8/26/2002

Don't get me wrong--I love the Market Street Broiler for take out fish to bring home... but that's only because I can create a more inspiring dish than these guys can. For the price you'd think MSB could at least sautee the fish in something besides tartar sauce on the side. If for nothing else, go to MSB for the best sourdough in the valley, and the plethora of scruptious desserts. However, for the true fish aficionado, you'll be hardpressed to find much inspiration with this menu. Better to fork out a bit more for much better food at The New Yorker. Pros: great old firehouse Cons: too loud, too crowded, over rated more

super surf & turf 8/19/2002
