Great food, not great free parking.\r Some of the best traditional sushi in Nashville

Worst

Do not eat here if you have a high standard for sushi. The rolls tasted soggy, and the fish was not fresh. I will say that some of the cooked food was good, the korean bbq, but as...

The first and always the best.... 12/19/2010

This was the first sushi bar I found in Nashville when I first moved here in the the early 80's. I have visited them many, many times in all of their locations over the years. Without exception the quality of their food has been exceptional and the service is equally as good. Of all we have to choose from in Nashville now, I will always choose the one that was the only choice years ago. If I could give them 6 stars...I would more

Great Food! 12/7/2009

I have been going to Koto for great japanese food for many years. I have been fortunate to be able to have had sushi in many areas of the country and still can't wait to come home to Koto. The rolls are always outstanding and I find the bento boxes and shashimi to be the same. Haji the owner is the coolest guy in town and Song Mi his wife is beautiful and sweet. If you haven't had the opportunity to patronize this downtown family run establishment, JUST GO! Pros: Best crunchy shrimp rolls EVER! more

Great date place! 4/6/2009

NON-FOOD RELATED:---------- NO PARKING! but, the place is very well kept and they are very friendly - nice atmosphere. Prices aren't bad. Expect $12-$15 for a main combo or dish and anywhere between $2-$6 for sushi. If you order a main dish, the food comes out in waves, at a very nice tempo. Refills were never a problem, and I was with 5 people. Bathrooms were particularly stellar. Again, great date joint. FOOD:------------ I attended for the sushi, mainly, but ended up getting a main dish (which includes salad, soup, rice, and on certain combos, a sushi roll - great deal!) as well. Drinks tasted great (very important). Miso soup was great. The sushi was very good, presented very well, and you get 6pcs. to a roll and 2pcs. to nigiri - all in all, about a 7 of 10. Sadly though, the main dishes weren't that outstanding, with chicken & beef teriyaki not quite "there", and even the bulgolgi was lacking somewhat. EXCEPTION! The tofu, main dish (forget which combo) was great! OVERALL:----------------------- Would I go back? Yes, and would get the tofu and sushi. I would probably stay away from the chicken and beef. However, you get lots of food for the price. My girlfriend and I paid about $37.00 after everything and was VERY full. Pros: Service, Price, Tofu, Sushi Cons: Main dishes, parking more

BEST IN NASHVILLE 2/1/2009

Honestly, having lived all over the world, this is the best most consistent japenese resteraunt in the city of Nashville. I do live downtown, so parking is not an issue for us, we walk every saturday to dine with Koto, I have never had a bad roll or dinner there in the last year.....unlike the majority of places in this town (like "sushi" rolls at "grocery" stores) this place has the most fresh made to order sushi in town...my boyfriend loves eating the sushi here....i prefer rolls to fish....The staff is always friendly and provide stellar service...would recomend this place to anyone that likes good food, service and a friendly atmosphere! Pros: Ambience, service, food, decor...etc more

Great Japanese Food! 1/2/2009

Koto's new location is very beautiful and nice inside (no more fish tanks or clutter / very clean and simple). Their udon soups and squid salad is the best I've ever had. Pricing is very reasonable and quality is high. more

not so fresh 6/17/2008

Do not eat here if you have a high standard for sushi. The rolls tasted soggy, and the fish was not fresh. I will say that some of the cooked food was good, the korean bbq, but as far as sushi goes, it tasted on par with the sushi you get at kroger. Pros: good service Cons: fish not fresh, soggy rolls, bad location pay for parking more

Good Food & Good Price 5/28/2008

I normally cannot stand any form of sushi even the rolls with cooked fish. A friend recommended the place because they have good prices and the food was good. Well I went and decided to be bold, and I tried an eel roll (cooked one) and it was good! I say try the place! The bathroom was even nice and the atmosphere was relaxing. Pros: Nice Amience and good price Cons: you have to park on the street, but great for city workers to walk to more

Lots of food for the price 3/13/2008

I took my friend to Koto on Union for her birthday and it was great. Between the 2 of us we had: 2 glasses of wine, water, coke, 1 order of yellowtail tuna, 1 chicken teryiaki dinner box (chicken teryiaki, rice, mixed tempura and spicy tuna roll) and 1 scallop teryiaki (same as chicken with crunchy shrimp roll instead of tuna) and our bill came to less than $50. It was a lot of food and it was so very good. I can't wait to go back for lunch. Pros: Decor, Lot of food for price, Service Cons: Parking can be tough if you don't know where to look more

Great food, great service, and great prices! 1/2/2008

I love this place! Very affordable, and the food served is incredibly fresh and won't burn a hole in your wallet. This is definately one of my favorite places to dine at in Nashville !\r \r They recently started serving Korean food, which is okay. But their sushi is outstanding! Pros: Fresh food, great service, great food, nice atmosphere Cons: Parking, washrooms (though they are moving to a new place ) more
