Jasmine China Bistro & Sushi

We ate at the Jasmine on Sept 7, 2012, and had a decent meal. However, when I checked my credit card statement, I had been charged four (4) times for the tab. My wife's cousin, who was with us, was also charged ten (10) times for his tab. The manager wanted to give us gift certificates for the overcharged amount. This was not satisfactory to us and it took two subsequent visits to actually get any cash and credit card refund. I checked various reviews on several restaurant rating sites and noticed this practice has been going on since at least 2008. Beware if you eat there; they WILL overcharge you. Speaking Fukien Chinese would be useful because all transaction are conducted in that language. more

My husband and I went to Jasmine's for lunch, the food was good, we waited a long time for food but we weren't in a hurry so it didn't bother me to much, we paid we left, later that day I was balancing my checking account and noticed that I had two charges from Jasmine's one being the bill and the other was a 40$ charge and I didn't know what it was for, so I called and the manager said he would find and out call back, he never called back and when I called no one would answer the phone, finally I reach the manager who tells me that our waiter charged our card for another tables order and didn't know how to void it so he charged us again for our bill and then didn't tell anyone about it, he just ignored it, I assume hoping that i wouldn't notice the charge... so the manager tells me they voided it and I should get my money back in three days. he handled it like it was no big deal, no sorry, he didn't try to make amends just hung up, to be honest if he had charged our card told his manager about his mistake and they had explained what happened I wouldn't have been mad but he didnt, he chose to lie. SO IF YOU EAT AT JASMINE'S CHECK YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT WHEN YOU GET HOME, YOU MAY HAVE PAID FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S FOOD. more

The food was ok. Order was worng.. pork should have been beef. we orderd from the online menu ended up overcharged $9.60 more

My wife and I have been going to Jasmine for years now and have always been happy with the quality of the food. We always get take out. Just today found a problem. The bill I got for the takeout dinner was $7.18 MORE than the stated prices. If you order from the internet menu, the prices are significantly (average 25% lower) than what you will actually be charged. I was overcharged $7.18 on what should have been a $26.85 bill. Actual charge was $34.03. Just a warning, Check your bill if you order from the internet menu. more

My friends and I went to Jasmine, we were seated and then...nothing. We waited over 20 minutes at our table(in plain sight) without even being approached. Finally my friend went up to the hostess and pointed out that we had been ignored/forgotten. She quickly alerted our waitress, claimed that it was her fault for not telling the waitress we were there and we were offered free sodas. I said we'd rather have free edamame instead of soda, they were fine with that and the evening proceeded like a normal night at an alright restaurant. Pros: nice atmosphere, ok food. Me and my family love this restaurant and go there at least once a week. The Jasmine roll as well as the bento boxes are a great inexpensive lunch, and the single dishes are great too. The only thing we do not like is the owner/hostess lady who often seats the customers, she is very rude to customers as well as here employees and has no regard for treating either with any respect. my observation is come for the food and hope you dont have to deal with her. I had been to Jasmine several times before, and had an ok experience. The food is not authentic Chinese at all, which was disappointing. However, the service is attentive and our waiter was friendly. But, the last time I ate at Jasmine, I had a horrible experience. Our tea cups were dusty, stained, and unacceptable. Also, my friend found lipstick stains on the outside of her glass. It was like they didn't even wash the glasses! We had to ask our waiter to bring new glasses and cups that were clean. It was pretty disgusting and really almost ruined our appetite. Then, when we started eating our appetizer, the paper wrapped chicken, we noticed that the chicken smelled negatively pungent and the inside of the item was still pink, as if it hadn't been cooked thoroughly. This was a huge concern for me because my wife is pregnant and we cannot risk eating undercooked or bad chicken. We complained to the waiter and ordered some vegetarian dishes instead. After this experience, I have decided not to go to Jasmine again. I am worried that there are sanitary problems within the restaurant and inadequate preparation of food. We have eaten at Jasmine many times since its opening. We have frequent visitors from out of state, and each time they are in town, we take them to Jasmine. They rave about every aspect of this place and always want to come back! The ambiance, service and menu offerings are exceptional! We will be patrons for many years to come! more

We loved this place. According to my wife this place had a great atmosphere, great layout and design and great service (our drinks never got empty). You know how you go to some restaurants and they take forever to bring out your food between the time of order and delivery to your table? Well, not here. It was right on time. We had a sushi for starters. I cant remember the name of it but it had a deep fried batter on the outside, salmon and tuna on the inside and two types of sauces over top. Very tasty. You might get thrown by the price but once you start eating, you'd realize it was worth it and would probably get another order. I'd suggest ordering this to be shared between two because it may be a bit much for one person and you'll struggle to get through your main. I had the orange ribs thingee for my main (i forgot the name) and the meat literally, fell off the bone. It was so tender, and went well with the marinade it was soaking in.\r \r My wife and I will definately tell our friends about it and we will definately go again. more

We love the Jasmine! The food works for both my husband and I for 2 reasons, I love sushi and he doesn't. Jasmine has a full sushi menu, great saki, great prices, and lovely service. For the non-sushi lover they have wonderful tasty but non-greasy favorite asian items. Some of our favorites are General Tso's Chicken, Happy Family, Lemon Chicken and Teriyaki Salmon. The ambiance is nice, very open and in the summer, a quaint little patio out back is a nice retreat from life. Out of all the sushi places in SLC, this is in the top 5 for sure, and highly recommended! :) more

My extended family patronizes this restaurant regularly, and it is among our favorites. We've never had a bad experience here, so if consistency in good food, service, and expedient seating is what you're going for, this would definitely be the place. Even on the busiest of nights, the wait for two usually won't go over 15 min. If you have more than that, and it's friday/saturday evening, I'd recommend making reservations, as that wait can be alot longer. \r \r As other reviewers have said it is hard to find the first time, it's across from Cottonwood Mall, but behind the old Denny's almost hidden behind the foliage of the enormous trees that give its water front dining it's secluded feeling. \r \r I'd recommended the walnut shrimp, but be prepared for something unique when you order it. The food is great, the prices are fair, and the service is fast and friendly. It is a little hard to find the first time, but is very much worth the search. more

The chinese food was good, but not great, there are certainly places worse. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was nice, but the sushi is really nothing special as some people have made me believe. If you're looking for great sushi I'd recommend going someplace else. Jasmine is a decent resturant, my experience wasn't horrible, but it was nothing to remember or going back to. I had been to the Jasmine a few times for chinese food, and had always found it very good. However, when the sushi bar opened, we found our new local haunt. While the Jasmine doesn't have the best sushi I've ever had, it is consistently very, very good. Whether we sit at the sushi bar, or get take out, the service is always prompt and friendly, and the sushi is fresh and delicious. I would recommend asking the chef for the ""special roll"" that's not on the menu - good stuff. Pros: Consistently good more

The food they serve is tastes like one of those take-out chinese restaurants. The ones that don't offer dining in. This food doens't really excite your pallate. The spices don't seem to present themselves as they should for these Chinese-American classics. I highly recommend the Peking Duck. Its the best I found in the city. I love Jasmine! It is my favorite chinese restaurant and I go almost every week. Among favorites: chicken lettuce wraps and their homemade potstickers (especially their house sauce!).
